The two latest Samsung foldable models, the Galaxy Z Flip3 and Galaxy Z Fold3 have had a pretty strong reception in Samsung’s home market of South Korea. More than 1 million units of the two smartphones have been sold since they were introduced in Korea one month ago. The speed in accomplishing this milestone is the fastest after the hugely successful Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy S8 series.

The sales target was a week behind what analysts had earlier predicted, although it still reflects a very successful run for the latest revolutionary foldable phones from the company. Up to 70% of the units sold in Korea were the cheaper Z Flip3 which offers an excellent experience with some new features. The Z Flip3 is in the same range as the Galaxy S21, but its design and overall appeal within a large segment of the market yielded more than 700,000 units sold within a month.

The demographics of the buyers released by Samsung also showed that about 54% of them were millennials or from Generation Z. This statistic helps to underscore the acceptability of the Galaxy Z Flip3 to several age groups.

The surge in sales of the Samsung foldable models could also be linked with the trade-in program put in place. Samsung has allowed South Koreans to trade their old phones including non-Samsung models, for the new Z Flip3 and Z Fold3 smartphones. Samsung is also extending the program till October 31.

The teardown begins with the heat gun applied to the open glass covering of the screen. The elaborate video which extended up to 9 minutes provides the clearest glimpse yet of the Galaxy ZFlip3. Among the features highlighted in the video are the cover screen (1.9 inches wide), a 930mAh battery (there is a second batter one on the inside of the device), and several other components that are visible from the back opening.

The display of the Galaxy Z Flip3 is foldable, and this is shown clearly in the teardown video. The flexible display of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 sits at the top of the new and revamped folding hinge. The delicate internals framework means that the Galaxy Z Flip3 is not a smartphone to be disassembled by just any person. You must have the necessary tools as well as the expertise. Samsung is introducing new measures in the design of its upcoming phone Galaxy Z Flip model from 2021. The measures are a clear departure from the current scenario of successor models ranking higher than the base models, and may be aimed at stabilizing the brand in the midst of an unfavourable and debilitating global business environment in 2020. The lineup of smartphones slated for release in 2021 begins with the Galaxy S21 slated for launch in January 2021, and the Galaxy Z Fold3 in mid 2020. The Z Fold3 will be the South Korean company’s flagship in H2, 2020.

A recent report says Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip, which would be a 5G compliant smartphone, may be equipped with a mid-range chipset that could significantly lead to a lower price tag, for the flagship device. and make it its most affordable foldable to date.

The report which emanated from Samsung’s Galaxy Club, highlights the proposed model number of the next Galaxy Z Flip model as SM-F720F. An explanation of the notation is necessary. While the “F” signifies that the specified model is an international variant, the absence of a “B” indicates that this new model will not have 5G capability. This implies that the Z Flip3 will be positioned lower than its base models and predecessors, including the Z Flip which all used the Snapdragon 800 range of chipsets.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip was priced at $1,449 when it was released, and the Z Fold2 sells from $1,999. It is yet to be seen the level of price change that will go with the choice of the new chipset and how much lower the Z Flip3 will be priced.

Still, even if Samsung wanted to make “mid-range foldables” a thing, we can’t imagine prices falling to three digits in the current market.
