The Galaxy Z Flip3 and Galaxy Z Fold3 are starting to receive the One UI 4.1 update with the March security patch, although it’s currently limited to Europe and South Korea.

The Galaxy Z Flip3 is getting it as firmware version F711NKSU2CVC5 in South Korea while in Europe, the firmware version is F711BXXU2CVC5. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold3 is only getting One UI 4.1 in Europe as of now, with firmware version F926NKSU1CVC5 (via SamMobile).

The One UI 4.1 update introduces a number of camera features so users of both devices can expect features like night portrait functions, pet recognition, lighting position editing functions, and an improved Director’s View. There’s also telephoto portrait video, but it’s limited to the Galaxy Z Fold3.

Other additions include Google Duo integration, updates to Samsung Health, Gallery, Keyboard, and Calendar, and more.

Also included is the March 2022 security patch, as already mentioned, which has so far only been released for select Galaxy phones, mostly flagships.

The update may have only rolled out in South Korea and Europe currently, but assuming that it’s bug-free, we should be seeing a wider release quite soon. Still, if you’re impatient then you can check for the update manually by heading over to the Settings app, opening up the About Phone section, and tapping on Software Update.

Samsung has already started pushing stable One UI 4 based on Android 12 for the Galaxy Z Flip3, thus establishing that it’s now become one of the leading brands with regards to speed of updates, at least in the flagship realm. The update has been rolled out along with another for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 that received the same earlier today.

Do keep in mind that the rollout seems to have only commenced in Korea for now, as usual, and other regions will be following soon (via SamMobile). Also noteworthy is that the update appears to be released only for users on stable Android 11. Beta users will thus have to wait a few hours or a couple of days more to receive it.

Regardless, there’s still no harm in checking if the One UI 4 update is available on your Galaxy Z Fold3. This can be done by heading over to the Settings app and navigating to Software update. If any update is available, then just tap ‘Download and install.’

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 was launched in August this year and brought a number of meaningful improvements over its past iterations. It has a 7.6-inch foldable display on the inside and another 6.2-inch display on the outside. The display is quite advanced and is a Dynamic AMOLED 2X, supporting 120Hz, HDR10+, and a peak brightness of 1200 nits. Powering the phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G chip.

The two latest Samsung foldable models, the Galaxy Z Flip3 and Galaxy Z Fold3 have had a pretty strong reception in Samsung’s home market of South Korea. More than 1 million units of the two smartphones have been sold since they were introduced in Korea one month ago. The speed in accomplishing this milestone is the fastest after the hugely successful Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy S8 series.

The sales target was a week behind what analysts had earlier predicted, although it still reflects a very successful run for the latest revolutionary foldable phones from the company. Up to 70% of the units sold in Korea were the cheaper Z Flip3 which offers an excellent experience with some new features. The Z Flip3 is in the same range as the Galaxy S21, but its design and overall appeal within a large segment of the market yielded more than 700,000 units sold within a month.

The demographics of the buyers released by Samsung also showed that about 54% of them were millennials or from Generation Z. This statistic helps to underscore the acceptability of the Galaxy Z Flip3 to several age groups.

The surge in sales of the Samsung foldable models could also be linked with the trade-in program put in place. Samsung has allowed South Koreans to trade their old phones including non-Samsung models, for the new Z Flip3 and Z Fold3 smartphones. Samsung is also extending the program till October 31.

Samsung has had a terrible time handling incidents of devices getting blown up. The company had to suspend the sales of Galaxy Note 7 series when a manufacturing defect led to many devices getting exploded. Well, this one’s nowhere close but something did went wrong. A user who had taken his Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 to the repair center ends up finding his device fuming.

A user took it to Twitter to share his experience where he had initially dropped his Galaxy Z Fold3 a week ago and after taking it to Samsung repair center, he was advised to mail it to Samsung to get it replaced by a new unit. Upon preparing the device to ship, it turned into a blazing hot lava.

For the record this phone (which I just came back from a Samsung repair center where they said to just mail it in for replacement) fell off my bike a week or so ago. I am sure it had integrity damage which caused this. I don’t suspect this is a Note 7 type issue….

While the user suspects this could be due to an integrity damage, there could be multiple reasons that made the device end up like this. In a similar incident, Samsung Galaxy A21‘s explosion made an Alaska Airlines flight to evacuate the passengers as it happend inside the airplane.

Since there are no similar reports in this regard, we will only be able to tell what exactly happened when Samsung does a postmortem and pin points the main culprit and in the meantime, hope that it isn’t widespread like we saw on Galaxy Note 7.

Samsung has taken the charge of making foldable smartphones mainstream and has already launched several models in the market. The latest devices from the South Korean giant with foldable screens include the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3.

Now, an upcoming foldable smartphone from Samsung, dubbed as Samsung W22 5G which is exclusive for the Chinese market, has leaked online. As the name indicates, the phone will be unveiled as a successor to the Samsung W21 5G launched last year.

The Samsung W22 5G is said to be based on the Galaxy Z Fold3 smartphone but the device is expected to come with a slightly modified design or even different dimensions. Its predecessor, the W21 5G also had a bit different design compared to the Galaxy Z Fold2.

From the leaked image, it’s evident that the upcoming China-exclusive foldable smartphone from Samsung features an under-display camera (UDC) technology and new wallpaper. As of now, nothing much is known about this new product. It is also not known if the device will come with support for the S-Pen stylus.

The Samsung W21 5G launched in China last year was priced 50 percent more than the international version of Galaxy Z Fold 2, so there’s a possibility that the upcoming W22 5G could be priced a lot more than the Galaxy Z Fold3 smartphone.

Given that the phone’s image has already leaked online, we expect to get more details about the Samsung W22 5G in the coming days or weeks as well as the phone’s pricing and availability details. If we are to speculate, then we expect the smartphone to go official by the end of this year.

Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) has released the latest Quarterly Foldable/Rollable Display Shipment and Technology Report. According to DSCC (via Phonearena), a whopping 819,000 foldable smartphones were sold in Q2, 2021, which is up 147% on a sequential basis but a mere 0.3% year-over-year. Well, these numbers clearly hint at how good Q3 figures are going to look like. Behind all of this will be Samsung sitting comfortably at the helm of this segment.

For Q3, sequential growth is expected to be as high as 215% quarterly and a massive 480% annually to 2.6 million units. For Q4, as per the forecast, sequential growth should be at 46% with a 450% growth rate on an annual basis.

From what it appears, the foldable market will only swell further with more players coming into the picture starting next year. Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, Google, and Honor are the big names that have foldable smartphones lined up in their inventories. Even though there’s a scarcity of chips, that’s hardly impacting the launch plans of these OEMs.

DSCC CEO Ross Young believes the spike in the foldable segment is due to Samsung’s aggressive marketing of a feature-loaded innovation tagged at a lower price. Samsung has placed Galaxy Z Flip3 at $999 and Galaxy Z Fold3 at $1,799 both of which are one of the finest products available in the market with water-proofing and a bunch of other exciting new additions. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is the first foldable device with pen input and an under-panel camera. These alluring devices have been able to draw a lot of attention, thanks to Samsung’s concentrated advertisements and marketing.

DSCC is expecting a 232% hike in foldable smartphone shipments in 2021 that makes a total of 7.5 million foldable devices, which is up by 35% of DSCC’s earlier prediction The research firm further increased its 2022 forecast by 20% and expect annual gains to stand at 112%. By 2026, as demand increases and prices get normalized, DSCC forecasts 51 million of these smartphones to be shipped across the globe.

The firm concludes that Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 will be the undisputed king in the foldable market this year with an 83.9% market share, followed by Huawei with a small 10% portion.

Samsung is reportedly projected to ship 7.2 million units of foldable smartphones in this year. The news arrives as the company saw higher than expected demand for its two new foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3.

According to TheElec report, the projection is from an analyst firm Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC). As per this report, the firm forecasts that the South Korean tech giant will ship more than 7 million units of its foldable smartphones at the higher end estimate. This marks a significant rise in shipments over last year, in which the company shipped just 2.5 million units. With the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3, the brand saw pre orders reaching 920,000 units.

Notably, the pre orders for these two devices is even higher than its mainstream flagship Galaxy S21 and the previously launched Galaxy Note 20. Although, DSCC added that most of these orders for the foldable smartphone is from the company’s home country, South Korea. The report adds that Samsung is spending an exorbitant amount on the marketing and promotion of the new smartphones.

DSCC believes that the company is planning on spending 2 billion US Dollars to promote the new devices, which is equal to about 53 percent of the company’s mobile unit’s operating income in the third quarter and 69 percent of its operating income in the second quarter. It remains to be seen whether the massive high budget marketing strategy will effect the Samsung Mobile’s operating income for the second half of this year.

The diagonal of the display, while the phone is unfolded, is whopping 7.6 inches, with a 2K resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and the HDR10+ certification. Further, the foldable has an additional external display with a diagonal of 6.2 inches. However, you should not underestimate the awesome display of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, with its wide 6.8-inch diagonal and the LTPO technology. The killer feature of both the devices is the S Pen borrowed from the dead Galaxy Note series.

Both these phones are powered by the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform, they offer up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. The phones are based on Android 11, customized by the One UI at version 3.1. They will get four years of major updates and even more years of security maintenance.

A couple of weeks ago, Samsung officially launched its latest foldable smartphones — Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3. On 11th August, the company started taking pre-orders for these new phones, promising shipments on or before 27th August.

The general sales for the new foldable smartphones are also scheduled to begin from 27th August but it seems that the South Korean giant isn’t able to keep up with the demand and is reportedly delaying shipments.

As per the report from All About Samsung, customers in Germany who pre-ordered the Galaxy Z Fold3, Galaxy Z Flip3, and the new Galaxy Watch4 series smartwatches are getting emails from the company notifying them about shipping delays. It is also being claimed that shipment for some of the customers could be delayed till mid-September.

Samsung says that this is happening because of the high demand for its newly launched products. This seems to be in line with the previous report, which revealed that the pre-orders for the latest smartphones from the brand have exceeded the South Korean technology giant’s highest projections.

Recently, it was reported that by the end of last week, pre-orders for the new foldable phones crossed the mark of 450,000 units and were speculated to reach 600,000 units by the end of the pre-order period. If the unlocked model is also to be included in the mix, then the numbers could reach 800,000 units. For context, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 had received about 80,000 pre-orders when it was launched.

Samsung has been doubling down on foldable smartphones and in line with that, the South Korean tech giant recently announced its two new devices — Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3.

The devices have not been on sale yet but are available for pre-orders and it seems that the company has a winner on its hand after the disappointing sales of Galaxy S-series flagship smartphones in the past couple of years.

A new report citing industry sources claims that the two newly launched foldable smartphones from Samsung have already crossed the mark of 450,000 units in pre-orders, which started on 17th August and will end today, i.e. 23rd August.

It’s being speculated that the total number of pre-orders could reach 600,000 units and if the unlocked models are also included, then the numbers may even reach 800,000 units. Just to give you perspective, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 had 80,000 units in pre-sale.

The popularity of these new foldable smartphones from Samsung is high among young customers, which isn’t surprising. Based on the numbers from a mobile operator, around 49 percent of Galaxy Z Fold3 books are from customers aged in their 20s and 30s. As for the Galaxy Z Flip3, they account for about 57 percent of the pre-orders.

Samsung has been betting on its foldable smartphone lineup to defend its position as the world’s leading smartphone manufacturer, which is now under a serious threat from Chinese smartphone makers like Xiaomi.

So far, it seems that the strategy of the South Korean giant is working as intended. Samsung is the only major smartphone brand with multiple generations of foldable smartphone models already in the market while most other phone makers are yet to launch their first foldable device.

The Korean giant just launched the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 which solves all the problems of the previous generations and adds a lot of really interesting features such as the S Pen borrowed from the Samsung Galaxy Note series. But is it really the best foldable phone in the market that can transform into a tablet or you can find something better from other brands? The only foldable phone which is able to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 globally is the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold and this is a comparison between their specifications.

Design

The Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold is very attractive because it has a design with a ceramic back, while Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 has the classic glass back paired with an aluminum frame. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 is waterproof with the IPX8 certification and it also comes with the Gorilla Glass Victus protection by Corning. Last but not least, it is more compact and has a more elegant design: just look at the camera module in order to notice how minimal its design is. Note that Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 supports the S Pen and the eSIM technology, while Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold does not have a pen. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 is the first display coming with an Eco2OLED panel which is able to improve efficiency in order to provide a lower energy consumption. The internal foldable display has a diagonal of 7.6 inches and a Quad HD+ resolution, as well as the HDR10+ certification, the highest brightness, and a 120 Hz refresh rate. The Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold still comes with an outstanding foldable panel sporting a diagonal of 8.01 inches, a Quad HD+ resolution, up to one billion colors, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 has a more interesting display, but the Mi Mix Fold remains amazing. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Xiaomi Mi Fold have almost the same hardware. In both cases, the internal storage goes up to 512 GB. The phones run Android 11 with a customized user interface on top. These phones are flagship and they provide astonishing performance thanks to their flagship-class hardware, as well as the complete 5G support.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 has the most complete camera department. It has a triple rear camera including three 12 MP sensors: the main camera with OIS, a telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, and an ultrawide camera. It also comes with a 4 MP cover camera and an under-display camera with a 10 MP resolution able to record 4K videos. The Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold has a great 108 MP main camera, an 8 MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 13 MP ultrawide camera, as well as a 20 MP front camera on the external display.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold has a bigger battery with a capacity of 5020 mAh and it can provide a longer battery life. It also supports a faster charging technology with a power of 67W (wired). However, unlike the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3, it lacks wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. You can only charge the Mi Mix Fold with a cable, while you can choose Qi wireless chargers if you go for the Galaxy Z Fold3.

Price

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 has a $1799/€1799 starting price in the global market, while Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold begins at €1300/$1522 in Asia. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 wins the comparison because it is waterproof, it comes with wireless charging, more interesting cameras, the under-display camera technology, S Pen support, and more. But the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold remains a valid choice with its 67W fast charging technology, 3x optical zoom, and bigger battery.

At the recent Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung officially launched its two new foldable smartphones in the market — Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3. Now, the company has revealed its sales target for foldable smartphones this year.

The South Korean technology giant is aiming to sell around 6.5 million units of foldable smartphones by the end of this year. We expect the majority of the portion will be for the newly launched Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 models.

The numbers shared by the company are far more than 0.7 million units that the company reported for the year 2019. But given the cheaper pricing, advanced features, and offers for the new models, the target seems achievable.

Also, the company is not launching the Galaxy Note-series flagship lineup this year so the focus will be more on these newly launched devices.

Samsung is currently dominating the foldable smartphones market and is expected to do so in the coming years with the lack of credible competition in this segment. After taking an early lead with this new form factor, the South Korean company is doubling down on foldable smartphones and is actively trying to make it a mainstream product.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G starts at $1,799.99 in the United States and is already up for pre-orders and will be available for purchase from 27th August. It comes in three color options — Phantom Black, Phantom Green, and Phantom Silver.

On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Flip3 has a lower starting price of $999 and will go on sale from 27th August. It comes in four colors — Cream, Green, Lavender, and Phantom Black and three more exclusively sold through the Samsung website — Gray, White, and Pink.

Samsung has scheduled its next Galaxy Unpacked event on 11th August where the company will be launching its next-generation foldable smartphones — Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3, among a few other devices.

Ahead of the official announcement, key specifications and pricing details of the device have already been leaked for the Korean and European markets. Now, days before the official launch, the pricing details for the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 in the Indian market have surfaced online.

As per the report, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 will be priced around ₹1,35,000 which roughly converts to $1,818 but the recommended sale price is said to be ₹1,49,99 (approximately $2,020). On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Flip3 will be priced at ₹90,000, about $1,212 but will go on sale for around ₹80,000, approximately $1,077.

Based on the leaked pricing, the Galaxy Z Fold3 is pricier than its predecessor but the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip series smartphone will be the most affordable foldable smartphone available in the market.

When compared to European pricing, the Indian pricing of these upcoming foldable smartphones is significantly lower. As per Evan Blass, the Galaxy Z Fold model will start at €1,899 while the Galaxy Z Flip 3 at €1,099 in Europe.

This time, the company has also confirmed that the foldable smartphones will have support for the S Pen stylus, further improving the user experience of the larger screen devices. The development comes as the South Korean giant has canceled the Galaxy Note series.

To know for sure how the devices are priced, we will have to wait for the official Galaxy Unpacked launch event which is scheduled for 11th August. We expect the devices to go on sale soon after the official launch.

Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Z Fold3 smartphone on August 3 at the Unpacked event. Ahead of its launch, we saw key specs and renders of the phone, and yesterday we received a tip regarding its internals. Now, the phone’s cameras have been detailed in a leak. 

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 is expected to make use of a total of five camera lenses. The foldable device from Samsung would feature three 12-megapixel lenses at the rear, starting with a 12MP Sony IMX555 main sensor, a 12MP 2x Telephoto camera, and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens. Interestingly, the ultra-wide lens would have Phase detection autofocus. 

When unfolded, there will be a 16-megapixel under the screen camera for selfies. It will be a 16MP Sony IMX471 sensor with 1.0-micron pixels. When folded, there will be a 10MP punch-hole camera on the secondary screen. 

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 Specifications (Expected) 

The previous leaks have revealed that the Galaxy Z Fold3 would come with a 7.55-inch primary display and a 6.23-inch cover screen. Although the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ chip has been announced, the device will still be powered by the vanilla Snapdragon 888 chipset. It will be paired with 512 GB of internal storage. 

Inside it could pack a 4,380mAh battery which is slightly smaller in comparison to the predecessor, the Galaxy Fold2. The device is expected to run on Android 11 out of the box with OneUI on top of it. 

In terms of availability, the Galaxy Z Fold3 is said to hit the floors in August in the global markets including the US and the UK. A few weeks of the global announcement, the phone is expected to reach the Indian market.
