This device will go directly head-to-head with Xiaomi’s upcoming Redmi device with a 64MP rear camera. This one’s also different from the Realme device with a 48MP camera we had heard about from before, which means there’s a whole new slew of possible specs here.

The biggest selling point of this new device is still going to be the camera setup it has going on. One of these sensors is the currently hot 64MP ISOCELL GW1 sensor by Samsung, while the other three cameras consist of a super wide angle camera, macro as well a depth sensor. No info regarding the front camera, but that’s not really all that important.

Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth confirmed that the company would be launching three smartphone cameras before Diwali this year. These three new smartphones would be launched under the Realme, Realme Pro and Realme X series. Sheth also took a dig at Xiaomi and said that Realme is offering the world’s first hands-on experience rather than showing a slide presentation.

Of course, this hands-on experience comes with one big caveat, that being that it came under heavy wraps to basically disguise the device’s design and look. Despite that, we still get a fairly good look at the device’s camera capabilities as well as the phone’s model, that being RMX1921. This is interesting, as it could indicate that this is a new version of the Realme X.

Officially however, Realme has yet to announce anything else about the new device. We’re not sure if we’ll see this new device launch at Realme’s upcoming August 20th event, though it’s highly likely it will. There are three devices set for launch on that day, and it’s highly likely at least one of those will be this brand new device.

Whatever Realme has in store for us, we’re really eager to see it. The company has a stellar reputation of making some excellent mid-range devices, and so far they’ve yet to disappoint. It’s also great to see some true competition going on in the mid-range market, considering how it’s been getting somewhat stale in the past few years.

As the company claims, the Z5 Pro will be among the first few models in the world to launch with the new 64MP Samsung sensor. This new sensor is almost certainly the Samsung ISOCELL GW1 which was announced by Samsung recently. This teaser means that Xiaomi and Realme won’t alone in offering this feature soon.

The company’s sample image shows a cat and a zoomed-in section of the cat’s fur. As indicated the 64MP sensor is from Samsung and should be the same Samsung ISOCELL GW1 as Xiaomi’s and Realme’s devices. There’s little more to say about the photo other than it certainly seems to pack plenty of detail. The GW1 sensor measures 1/1.7″ in size with 1.6um pixel size and is 38% larger than the current 48MP sensor. It uses ISOCELL Plus technology that increases light intake and catches colors more accurately resulting in bright, sharp, and vibrant images across different lighting environments.

The Z5 Pro will feature the 64MP sensor and while the company hasn’t yet announced this year’s Z Series, the Z5 Pro is definitely one of the devices coming soon. We hope that there will be a non-pro version that will at least feature a 48MP sensor on the back so that users will have to choose between 2 great devices according to their budget.

According to Lin Bin, Xiaomi first set up an independent camera team two years ago. In May 2018, an official camera department was set up that would involve all aspects of hardware and software development for their camera technology. On top of this, the company’s AI algorithm team is comprised of more than 1,000 people, with over 684 global patents in AI, ranking them 11th in the world.

In addition, the Samsung GW1 sensor also supports pixel-isolated ISOCELL PLUS technology, which guarantees high color reproduction while improving sensitivity by 15%. At the same time, the intelligent ISO technology can ensure that the highlights of the photos are not overexposed while simultaneously reducing noise in darker parts of the image.

Finally, the Samsung GW1 supports hybrid 3D HDR, intelligent pixel-level hierarchical exposure and hardware-level real-time HDR, ensuring a wider dynamic range for photos and better handling of all sorts of lighting situations. Samsung is extremely proud of this sensor, and hopes to see it featured in the upcoming 64MP Redmi device soon.

One other interesting detail was added by Lin Bin near the end of the presentation. According to the Xiaomi president, the company has plans to use a Samsung sourced 100MP sensor in the near future. Though no concrete date was given, Lin Bin seemed confident that it would be arriving sooner rather than later. Whether we need 100MPs is a whole other story, but it’s still good to see that Xiaomi are taking their cameras seriously.
It looks like the China launch of the same phone will follow soon after. According to a leaked invitation (courtesy of some bloggers in China) shared on Weibo, Realme’s 64MP smartphone could be announced in China on August 15.

The invite shared on Weibo reveals that the new Realme 64MP phone will be announced at an official event on August 15 at 2 PM CST. The phone is said to use a 64MP Samsung GW1 sensor with 1/1.72″ large size and very high sensitivity. The sensor is capable of shooting 9216 x 6912 resolution images. With such large resolution images, the phone should be able to capture better details than a traditional 48MP or lower resolution sensors. The new 64MP sensor utilizes Tetracell technology (similar to Sony’s Quad-Bayer) to combine four pixels to output detailed 16MP resolution images.

Realme CEO, Madhav Seth had revealed a camera sample from its 64MP phone a few weeks back which gave us a glimpse of what it was capable of. However, we are yet to see extensive samples from this sensor to see how good it is in real life.

Meanwhile, Redmi will also release a 64MP smartphone this week. The brand has scheduled an event on August 7 in China where it will showcase the new device with the new camera sensor.

Note that Realme is yet to officially confirm this Aug 15 launch event for China.
