The Korean giant is not so far away from launching a slew of new smart devices including phones, tablets, and a new Galaxy Buds FE TWS. Among the list of upcoming Samsung smartphones, we have the Galaxy S23 Fan Edition (FE) which has already appeared in multiple leaks and rumors. The smartphone today is inadvertently confirmed by Samsung as it gets listed on the Spanish Samsung Pay website.

We are not sure whether the launch date for the smartphone is just around the corner, or if the engineers are just testing things for now. It is surprising to see the new Fan Edition smartphone in the list of Samsung Pay.

Must See: Samsung Galaxy S23 FE listed on TENAA with specifications and images

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy A24 last month in Vietnam. Since then, the company has been releasing this budget smartphone in multiple markets.

Today, the firm debuted this handset in its home country South Korea. It will be available for purchase starting tomorrow (May 19) for KRW 396,000 (~$300).

The Korean variant of the Galaxy A24 is unlike any other version of the phone. Because it comes with a useful feature, which Samsung removed from its smartphones in 2021.

The feature we are talking about is MST-enabled Samsung Pay. For the unaware, MST stands for Magnetic Secure Transmission and this feature mimics card swipe action on any PoS terminal.

Thus, older Samsung smartphones with Samsung Pay could be used to make transactions on non-NFC PoS machines too. The South Korean electronics giant removed this feature starting with the Galaxy S21 series as NFC-enabled PoS terminals can be now found almost everywhere.

It’s not known whether the return of MST feature will be limited to Korea or will be re-introduced in more markets. It would be nice to have this feature in other markets.

Anyways, the Galaxy A24 will be sold in Black, Light Green, and Dark Red color options in South Korea. As part of launch offers, the company is providing a 2-month free trial of YouTube Premium and a free Microsoft 365 Basic subscription for 6 months.

Some of the specs of the Galaxy A24 include a 6.5-inch 90Hz FHD+ Super AMOLED display, a MediaTek Helio G99 chip, an OIS-assisted 50MP primary camera, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a 5,000mAh battery, and 25W fast wired charging support.

As a matter of fact, the use of cryptocurrency as means of payment continues to proliferate. Recently, Twitter announced that it was considering the use of bitcoin. Now, Samsung Pay and Google Pay may join the fray soon.

Cryptocurrencies remain a popular mode of international transactions with the potential for greater stability. And now, it has been reported that very soon, Google Pay and Samsung Pay will accept payments made with Bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies. This information emanated from BitPay, a foremost cryptocurrency provider and payment platform.

If the plans scale through, then Google and Samsung will be joining Apple as platforms that now have the functionality and capacity to process cryptocurrency payments of users on the platform for goods and services. BitPay also hinted that it hopes to bring Google Pay and Samsung Pay support as early as March 2021 if all things go according to the plans.

Users on both platforms would be able to link their BitPay cryptocurrency card to Google Pay and Samsung Pay, thereby making it possible to make seamless payments on the platforms using cryptocurrencies. Supported cryptocurrencies on the service include Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, BUSD, Ether, PAX, USDC, and GUSD.

While the specifics and exact timelines for these activities have not been provided by BitPay, it is expected to follow a similar trajectory like what occurred with Apple Pay. At this time, neither Google nor Samsung had released a statement affirming or denying the news.

We keep our fingers crossed as further developments evolve.

Today, it is the turn of Samsung, and the Korean tech giant has named it Samsung Money.

Samsung Money is a Mastercard debit card issued by The Bancorp Bank; and just as Apple’s card is tied to Apple Pay, this is tied to Samsung Pay.

Getting the card is pretty easy as Samsung has made it possible for users to request for it via the Samsung Pay app. You can also start using the digital card right away until the physical card arrives. The Samsung Pay app can also be used to check balances, monitor transactions, flag suspicious purchases, and block the card.

Samsung says Samsung Money has no account fees (for now). They are also promising reward points for purchases that can be redeemed and be used towards future Samsung purchases. Samsung has also revealed that the Samsung Money accounts will be FDIC insured for up to $1.5 million which is six times higher than the $250,000 for most debit cards. Another perk is no charges when owners use any of the 55,000 ATMs in the Allpoint ATM network.

Samsung Money will be available later this summer but there is already a waiting list where you can sign up for it.

There are reports claiming that Google is also working on a debit card of its own and is said to offer spending-tracking tools.

Samsung Pay was launched in 2015 as a way to allow select Galaxy devices to pay at virtually any terminal through Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST). This is different than NFC technology which is what Google Pay and Apple Pay uses.

Following the footsteps of Apple, Chinese giant Huawei has also launched its own Huawei Card in China last month. It is available in both physical and virtual form and the company says that it will wave-off annual fee for the early adopters for the first year.

Xiaomi Pay is yet to roll out in other regions aside China. Google continues to expand its own Google Pay platform, stretching from the US to Europe. Samsung Pay perhaps has the widest coverage with the payment platform already available in several countries in partnership with local financial institutions. OnePlus is looking to leverage on the global spread of its smartphone userbase with this new mobile payment platform.

Details of the OnePus Pay were not revealed. The company only released a teaser announcing the platform should be expected sometime next year. We expect the app to support NFC and that won’t pose any problem to OnePlus phone users, except you own the OnePlus 2 or One. OnePlus models right from the OnePlus 3, all came with NFC onboard. The payment platform may also bring other non-NFC payment options.

In another development, OnePlus also shared Counterpoint Research Q2 2019 report on the premium smartphone segment in India. The data shows OnePlus controls 43% of the premium segment, ahead of Samsung. The market share is a significant leap from last year’s Q2 market share of 34% which catapulted OnePlus to the top of the segment for the first time ahead of Samsung. With this latest report, OnePlus continues to dominate the segment in India and this could be the reason why the OnePlus 7T was launched in the world’s thrid-largest market first. Also, recall that OnePlus currently ranks among the top 5 OEMs in the premium segment globally.

Samsung Pay is supported by several Samsung phones and while its user base has noticeably grown in over 4 years since its debut, the data shows that the contactless payment service is most popular in Samsung’s home country of South Korea. The Asian country accounted for nearly 80% of its simple offline payments. According to the Financial Supervisory Service. Samsung Pay surpassed KRW 40 million ($33.7 million) in transactions in April 2019, with 25% of the transactions coming in the form of online payments.

Samsung Pay incorporates both Near Field Communication (NFC) and MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) technologies. This has made the service compatible with a wide range of point of purchases since owners can use both the contactless NFC technology and magnetic strip technology which most of the cards use. Samsung Pay is supported on the flagship Galaxy S models as well as on the midrange Galaxy A and J models. The payment service is also available on the TizenOS-powered Samsung Gear smartwatches. Presently, you can also use Samsung Pay to deposit/withdraw cash from ATMs and it also supports payments for pre-paid and transit cards as well as PayPal.

You do not need to bring cash or your credit card to pay for your purchases: you just need your phone. Given that Samsung and Apple devices are the most sold devices all around the world, Samsung Pay and Apple Pay are the most famous platforms to pay with a phone. Now, the former has just updated in the U.S. with support to PayPal.

This can be considered one of the most important upgrade in the Samsung Pay platform. Thanks to PayPal, now you will not even need to associate a credit card with the service in order to pay using your Android device. Starting from today, it is possible to integrate a PayPal account with Samsung Pay, and you will be able to pay through PayPal in physical stores supporting the service. The PayPal support is starting to roll out 9 months after the Korean giant made the announcement.

Thanks to PayPal support for Samsung Pay, it will be possible to use the PayPal balance or the credit or debit card associated with the account. If you have a Samsung Galaxy device supporting the service, in order to add a PayPal account to the app, you need to touch the plus icon at the top right corner of the display, then tap “Add PayPal” which you can find under the voices “Payment cards” and “Add payment card”. Note that the arrival of the official support has been reported only by some users, so we do not know whether all of the owners of supported Samsung Galaxy devices have received it or not. At the moment, there is no info about the roll out of the feature in countries outside the U.S.

On Tuesday, LG announced that it will be bringing its mobile payment solution to the U.S. in the first half of the year, Yonhap News reported. The availability of the LG Pay in the U.S. will be timed with the release of its upcoming flagship phone.

LG Pay can be used by placing the NFC-enabled smartphone at a payment terminal. The transaction can be authenticated through fingerprint scanning. Apart from NFC, the Wireless Magnetic Communication (WMC) technology can be used for making payments at regular credit card readers that do not feature NFC radios.

LG is speculated to bring the LG Pay feature as LG Wallet in the U.S. Earlier in this month, the South Korean company had released LG Wallet app in the Google Play Store. The description of the app states that it will work with only with the unannounced LG G7 phone.

It indicates that when LG releases the LG G7 smartphone in the U.S., it will be also introducing the LG Pay/Wallet payment solution in the country. It is also expected to be available on the LG V40 flagship that will be arriving in the latter half of the year. Starting with flagship phones, LG is expected to make the service available on its mid-range smartphones in 2019.

LG is speculated to launch the Snapdragon 845 powered LG G7 flagship phone in March this year. It is expected to arrive with FullVision OLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio, 6 GB of RAM, dual selfie cameras, dual rear cameras and more.

Rivaling services such as the Samsung Pay has been available in 12 devices across 14 countries whereas the Google Pay which includes Android Pay and Google Wallet services are available on NFC-enabled Android devices in 17 countries. LG Pay will not only receive tough competition from Samsung Pay in the home country but also from it and Google Pay in the U.S.
