Samsung’s flagship S series usually consists of three models. There’s a standard model with a compact form factor, a Plus version with basically the same specs as the standard one but a larger display, and an Ultra model with an even bigger display and better specs. The same formula is expected to be followed in the upcoming Galaxy S23 Series. However, the Korean company might remove the Plus model from its 2024’s Galaxy S24 lineup.

According to a report by The Elec, Samsung is planning to exclude the Galaxy S24 Plus from the next year’s Galaxy S24 series. This means only the standard Galaxy S24 and the higher-end Galaxy S24 Ultra will be launched. Only “DM1” (Samsung Galaxy S24) and “DM3” (Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra) projects are in the works, according to the report. The “DM2”, which should be the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus is missing.

Apparently, the Plus model is not as popular as the rest two models in the series, and it has poor sales. The publication, citing Gfk figures, reports that only 5.5 million units of Galaxy S22 Plus were sold last year, which is around 17% of total Galaxy S22 shipments. The base and ultra devices, on the contrary, accounted for 38% and 45% of 2022 shipments respectively.

In addition, Samsung is also said to be reviewing ways to reduce the number of models in the low-end Galaxy A series. The brand is reported to continue launching new models in the Galaxy A1x, A3x, and A5x series. However, it may discontinue the A2x series. By reducing the number of poor-performing smartphones (In terms of sales), Samsung could improve its profitability.
