Last month, Samsung teased their rollable, foldable, & slideable OLED displays for phones, tablets, & even laptops. Well, it looks like the technology might even be coming to smartwatches, as new patents have surfaced of a Samsung smartwatch featuring a rollable display and a camera.

First spotted by LetsGoDigital, the 96-page patent document was filed with the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) on June 2, 2021, and was released and published yesterday, on December 9.

The screen can be extended by pressing the crown of the watch or through touch-screen activation. When extended, the outer frame of the watch expands, allowing the additional screen real estate rolled up inside the body of the watch to unfold, expanding the screen by up to 40%. The technology even allows users to decide whether only one or two screen parts are rolled to roll out.

Coming back to the camera, the extension and retraction of the screen do not appear to hinder it, meaning it can make for an excellent selfie camera.

The technical specs of this Samsung rollable display smartwatch are unavailable right now, along with an expected timeline. But one thing can be said for certain that if Samsung is able to apply this technology, as illustrated in the patents, it will be the next step in the evolution of wearable gadgets.

According to the latest research from Counterpoint’s IoT Service, smartwatch shipments in India tripled in Q2 2021 compared to the same period last year, with 206% YoY and 18% QoQ growth during the quarter. Affordable offerings, new players, variable customer preferences, and post lockdown demand recovery were the key factors behind the hike in numbers.

The market is getting competitive as more and more players are entering the market, smartwatches are being preferred over traditional watches for their feature-rich interface and compatibility to get paired with smartphones. This in turn has also resulted in the availability of smartwatches in lower price brackets. Indian brands continue to dominate the market, with the top three brands in the Indian smartwatch market being domestic and have over a three-fifths share of the total market.

The market is going to increase further, with more brands lined up to enter the market in the future. Around 10 brands have already entered since the beginning of 2021. The major highlight is the domestic production growth. Samsung is already producing smartwatches in India since June 2020. Other players like realme, and Timex are also exploring options for domestic production as it would help reduce the prices and dependence on imports.

A Research Associate at Counterpoint Research states, “We are witnessing many new launches in the sub-INR 5,000 segment, which saw its contribution rising to 83% in the overall market in Q2 2021, compared to 67% in Q2 2020. Due to this, the ASP (average selling price) of smartwatches decreased by 36% in Q2 2021 compared to the same period last year. We are also seeing features like Voice Assistant, Bluetooth Calling, SpO2, and Blood Pressure Monitor trickling down from high-end models to the low-end ones.”

Some key highlights are:

This week, two videos detailing the workings of Samsung’s Augmented Reality (AR) glasses were leaked online. The AR glasses could be used for several applications and it was said that mid-air gestures won’t work for the device, but rather it would be operated using a Samsung smartwatch. Now, another report has revealed that indeed Samsung may soon release two separate smartwatch models and the codenames of the models have also featured in the rumour mills.

Not too long ago, a leak emerged about Samsung’s 2021 lineup of Galaxy smartwatches having the model numbers SM-R86x and SM-R87x. Going by the tradition of Samsung, these models will likely be different sizes of the Galaxy smartwatch. It is also rumoured that at least one of the smartwatch models could have the Android’s Wear OS instead of the usual Tizen OS, reflecting an improvement in the model.

This rumor seems to have been lent more weight with the discovery by the guys at GalaxyClub that the Korean giant was working on two smartwatches with codenames Wise and Fresh. The codenames are being interpreted in some quarters as reflecting that Samsung is indeed planning to introduce a fresh approach to its smartwatches by unveiling the Wear OS smartwatch which reflects a new direction for the company’s watches.

The Android integration for Samsung’s smartwatches holds a lot of promise. The integration will open a wide array of opportunities and possibilities on tasks that can be accomplished by the new smart wearable device. Obviously, the company would have its own AR glasses in mind while developing the soon-to-be unveiled smartwatches, as it continues to expand the frontiers of technology along the lines of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR).

Samsung is yet to make any statement on the impending release of its Galaxy Watch lineup for 2021, but the speculations remain rife about a shift to the Wear OS for one of the models.

Samsung has released the new Galaxy gear Live smartwatch, this smartwatch is running with Android Wear platform, the smawrtwatch is now available in Google PlayStore for pruchase.

At Google I/O cinference, Samsung has announced their new smartwatch device, Galaxy gear Live. The device has IP67 certification, it’s mean that the device has water resisstant and has rough body.

The new Samsung Galaxy Gear Live is packs with 1,63 inch Super AMOLED screen size, with 320 x 320 pixel. The new Galaxy Gear Live can be pair with any other Android device running with Android OS 4.3, while Galaxy gear and Galaxy gear Neo can only pair with Samsung device only.

The Galaxy Gear Live is now available for purchase with $199,99 price tag.

While Samsung is preparing the launch of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 on IFA in Berlin, along with that launch Samsung is also ready to unveiled the long awaited device, the Samsung Galaxy Gear, but  now we have a coupled leaked picture of Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch.

The picture is appear from venture Beat website, those picture is taking from a video since the media didn’t allow to taking the real picture directly. According to the picture, the Galaxy Gear will packs with 3 inch of OLED screen and will be sports with speaker alongside on the top and bottom of the screen.

At about 3 inches diagonally, the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch is quite large. Although its screen is square, large bezels on the top and bottom give it a chunky, rectangular shape, with rounded corners.

The color is fairly basic — dark black and grey, although it may be enhanced in the final version. The wristband is clunky and masculine, large enough to hold speakers in the clasp. It’s not heavy to hold, but it dwarfed my tiny lady wrists when I tried it on. Women may instead opt for a Misfit Shine, which isn’t a watch but is a small jewel-like button.

The smartwatch prototype has Bluetooth to connect with the Galaxy S family of smartphones and tablets, although it may also connect to all Android devices. It also has Wi-Fi for Internet access, including e-mail, even when it’s not connected to a smartphone, but I didn’t see that in action.

There is a 4 MP camera at the top to record the images as well as health data. There are shades of healthcare software installed and can be used to determine the nutrient content of a food.

Samsung Galaxy Gear can accept voice commands with S Voice application. Also available Bluetooth and wifi to communicate with other gadgets that can synchronize to a call from a smartphone smartwatch. Integration of media networks Twitter and Facebook are also available.

As known earlier, the Galaxy Gear battery can last for 10 hours. Unknown battery capacity used, but from the pictures it can be seen that the size is quite large.

The Samsung Galaxy gear smart watch is expected to be a communicator device for Samsung’s Galaxy range of smartphones and tablets, it could come with a number of functions, like being able to answer calls, text messages, read emails and more.

The former uses a black-and-white low-power LCD, while the latter will come with a color transflective screen, and both promise at least a few days on a charge. It’s unclear whether the 10 hours on this spec sheet include idle time, or only refer to active use. Either way, it sounds like you’d want to charge it most nights.

This device will be unveiled on September 4th together with Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
