<figure id="attachment_415614" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-415614" style="width: 696px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" class="size-large wp-image-415614" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Smartphone_Image_Sensor_Market_1st_Half_2021-1024x592.jpg?x44794" alt="Smartphone_Image_Sensor_Market_1st_Half_2021" width="696" height="402" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Smartphone_Image_Sensor_Market_1st_Half_2021-1024x592.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Smartphone_Image_Sensor_Market_1st_Half_2021-300x173.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Smartphone_Image_Sensor_Market_1st_Half_2021-768x444.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Smartphone_Image_Sensor_Market_1st_Half_2021-696x403.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Smartphone_Image_Sensor_Market_1st_Half_2021-1068x618.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Smartphone_Image_Sensor_Market_1st_Half_2021-726x420.jpg 726w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Smartphone_Image_Sensor_Market_1st_Half_2021.jpg 1162w" sizes="(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-415614" class="wp-caption-text">Source: Strategy Analytics, Inc.</figcaption></figure>
<p>But it was <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/Sony">Sony</a> Semiconductor that managed to rank #1 and took the spot in the smartphone image sensor shipments in H1 2021 with an impressive revenue share of 42 percent. This was followed by Samsung System LSI and OmniVision Technologies.</p>
<p>According to the analysis, the top three vendors accounted for about 80% of revenue in the global smartphone image sensor market in H1 2021.</p>
<p>Jeffrey Mathews, Senior Analyst at Strategy Analytics says, “The image sensor vendors witnessed an accelerated momentum from smartphone OEMs, who actively adopted high-resolution CIS and low-pixel CIS products for multicamera applications, to secure inventory and cater to pent-up demand. Sony, <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/Samsung">Samsung</a>, and <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/OmniVision">OmniVision</a> supplied key high-resolution CIS products to leading smartphone OEMs in H1 2021.”</p>
<figure id="attachment_376180" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-376180" style="width: 497px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-376180" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Sony-IMX661-CMOS-Image-Sensor.jpg?x44794" alt="Sony-IMX661-CMOS-Image-Sensor" width="497" height="345" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Sony-IMX661-CMOS-Image-Sensor.jpg 497w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Sony-IMX661-CMOS-Image-Sensor-300x208.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Sony-IMX661-CMOS-Image-Sensor-100x70.jpg 100w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Sony-IMX661-CMOS-Image-Sensor-218x150.jpg 218w" sizes="(max-width: 497px) 100vw, 497px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-376180" class="wp-caption-text">Sony IMX661 CMOS image sensor</figcaption></figure>
<p>Further, the introduction of new high-resolution and large format CIS products from the major vendors are expected to boost the revenue opportunities in the market, as per Stephen Entwistle, Vice President of the Strategic Technologies Practice at Strategy Analytics.</p>
<p>However, he added that the supply fluctuations of various high-pixel and low-pixel CIS products continue to challenge the shipments growth prospects of the smartphone image sensor market in 2021 and beyond.</p>
<p>A <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/08/14/sony-led-the-cmos-image-sensor-market-share-in-2020-but-samsung-narrows-gap/">previous report</a> revealed that Sony led the CMOS Image Sensor market share in 2020, but Samsung is narrowing the gap. The latter recently launched a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/09/21/samsung-reveals-the-key-features-of-its-200mp-isocell-hp1-sensor/">200MP ISOCELL HP1 sensor</a> &#8211; a reflection of the company’s design policy of pushing the boundaries of existing technologies. The OEM also recently <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/09/08/samsung-576mp-camera-sensor-2025-launch/">revealed</a> plans to launch a 576MP camera sensor in four years. Sony has been busy as well though and recently unveiled its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/03/10/sony-cmos-imx661-image-sensor-127-68mp-pixel-count/">CMOS IMX661</a> image sensor with a 127.68MP pixel count.</p>
