<p>After months of leaks, teasers, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/07/10/samsung-xr-headset-launch-delayed-due-to-apple-vision-pro/">shifting timelines</a>, Samsung has finally set a date for its long-awaited XR headset, codenamed Project Moohan. The company just confirmed that the mixed reality device will be unveiled during its “Worlds Wide Open” Galaxy Event on October 21 at 10 PM ET, streamed live on YouTube. The wait’s finally over.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="574" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Samsung-XR-headset.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-710981" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Samsung-XR-headset.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Samsung-XR-headset-300x168.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Samsung-XR-headset-768x431.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Samsung-XR-headset-696x390.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Samsung-XR-headset-749x420.png 749w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The launch was <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/06/18/samsungs-xr-headset-launch-date-leaks-will-it-rival-apple-and-meta/">previously rumored</a> for late September but got quietly pushed back, fueling speculation that Samsung wanted to fine-tune both the hardware and its marketing pitch.</p>

<p>The Project Moohan headset runs on Qualcomm’s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/01/05/qualcomm-launches-snapdragon-xr2-gen-2-platform-samsung-and-google-among-early-adopters/">Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2</a> chip, built to handle everything from VR to AR with fluid motion and minimal latency. It runs Android XR, a new platform developed with Google that leans heavily on multimodal AI for hand- and eye-tracking, gesture control, and likely integrates Google AI.</p>

<p>On the visual side, leaks point to dual micro-OLED panels with a crisp 3,552 × 3,840 resolution. For context, the panels on the Apple Vision Pro have a resolution of 3660 x 3200 pixels.</p>

<p>Samsung isn’t framing Project Moohan as just another headset—it’s pitching it as the next step for Android in spatial computing. Think productivity tools, Play Store apps reimagined in 3D, and immersive media experiences that rival what Apple’s $3,499 AR/VR headset offers. Analysts expect this could give the entire XR market a boost, with shipments projected to jump by nearly 40% next year.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="[Invitation] Samsung Galaxy Event: Worlds Wide Open — A New Era of Multimodal AI" width="696" height="392" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/U64tIKiRABo?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<p>Hands-on demos from earlier this year revealed <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/01/29/samsungs-android-xr-headsets-features-revealed-in-hands-on-video/">how it looks and functions</a>, though final specs like field of view or battery life are still under wraps. If all goes to plan, the headset should start shipping before the end of the year.</p>

<p>October 21 could mark a turning point for Samsung’s XR ambitions—and perhaps Android’s biggest move yet into mixed reality. Whether Project Moohan can live up to the hype, though, we’ll know soon enough.</p>

<h2>Launch Window, pricing &amp; availability</h2>

<p>According to NewsWorks, the headset will debut at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event on September 29, 2025. It’s expected to go on sale in South Korea around October 13, with global availability following by late October or early November.</p>

<p>Price is estimated between ₩2.5 million and ₩4 million (~$1,800–$2,000), undercutting the Apple Vision Pro’s $3,500 tag.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/01/23/galaxy-xr-headset-samsungs-project-moohan-revealed-at-unpacked-2025/">Project Moohan</a> runs on Google’s Android XR platform and is powered by Qualcomm’s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/01/05/qualcomm-launches-snapdragon-xr2-gen-2-platform-samsung-and-google-among-early-adopters/">Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2</a> processor, alongside 16GB RAM and dual Sony micro-OLED displays at 90Hz. It also supports multi-camera tracking, likely around 12 cameras, and uses an external battery pack.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="960" height="640" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/807752_751184_1825.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-703510" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/807752_751184_1825.jpg 960w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/807752_751184_1825-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/807752_751184_1825-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/807752_751184_1825-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/807752_751184_1825-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px" /></figure>

<p>A recent earnings call confirmed that Samsung is still planning a 2025 launch for its XR headset, reaffirming the project’s legitimacy after months of silence.</p>

<p>According to Road to VR, the headset is also expected to integrate features like hand and eye tracking, as well as optional VR controllers. Samsung might tease the headset during the July 2025 Unpacked, giving an early preview ahead of the full reveal.</p>

<p>With its pricing, Google-backed platform, and competitive hardware, Project Moohan is shaping up as a more accessible alternative to the Vision Pro—and a strong play for Samsung in the XR arena.</p>

<p>Samsung plans to tease the headset at its July 2025 Unpacked event alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7, showcasing prototypes and videos to gauge market buzz. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/05/27/not-one-but-two-snapdragon-xr2-gen-2-powered-samsung-xr-devices-surface-on-geekbench/">Powered by</a> Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip and 16GB RAM, it features dual Micro OLED displays with a high refresh rate for crisp visuals. The device has already made its appearance <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/05/27/not-one-but-two-snapdragon-xr2-gen-2-powered-samsung-xr-devices-surface-on-geekbench/">on Geekbench</a> and you can check out the details here. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="577" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Snapdragon-XR2_-Gen-2-Platform-Summary-1024x577.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-692949" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Snapdragon-XR2_-Gen-2-Platform-Summary-1024x577.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Snapdragon-XR2_-Gen-2-Platform-Summary-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Snapdragon-XR2_-Gen-2-Platform-Summary-768x433.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Snapdragon-XR2_-Gen-2-Platform-Summary-1536x866.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Snapdragon-XR2_-Gen-2-Platform-Summary-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Snapdragon-XR2_-Gen-2-Platform-Summary-1068x602.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Snapdragon-XR2_-Gen-2-Platform-Summary-745x420.jpg 745w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Snapdragon-XR2_-Gen-2-Platform-Summary.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 highlights</figcaption></figure>

<p>Running Android XR, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/03/google-play-store-update-suggests-xr-headset-support/">developed with Google</a>, the headset supports all Android smartphone and tablet apps out of the box, with immersive UI tweaks for select Google and Samsung apps.</p>

<p>The headset’s Galaxy AI integration lets it assist users by “seeing” their screen, streamlining tasks like navigation or content creation. This could give Samsung an edge over <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/02/26/apple-vision-pro-cost-parts/">Apple’s $3,500 Vision Pro</a>, which struggled with limited content and high costs, and Meta’s Quest 3S, which dominates with an 84% Q4 2024 market share due to its affordability.</p>

<p>Judging from the leaks and rumors, this headset seems to pack what it takes to disrupt the market. Though much of the appeal will depend on the price tag, which is yet to be still under wraps.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a> is diving headfirst into the world of extended reality (XR) with its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/01/23/galaxy-xr-headset-samsungs-project-moohan-revealed-at-unpacked-2025/">Project Moohan headset</a>, and it’s just shown up on Geekbench, giving us a sneak peek at what’s coming. Teased as a collaboration with Google, this headset—possibly launching as the Galaxy XR—promises to shake up the VR and AR scene and compete with Apple&#8217;s Vision Pro. Alongside it, Samsung’s cooking up two more XR devices, Project Haean and Project Jinju, which might bring sleek smart glasses to the table. Let’s break down what we know so far.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1000" height="562" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Samsung-Mobile-XR-Project-Moohan-Android-XR-platform-Google_main1.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-688761" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Samsung-Mobile-XR-Project-Moohan-Android-XR-platform-Google_main1.jpg 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Samsung-Mobile-XR-Project-Moohan-Android-XR-platform-Google_main1-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Samsung-Mobile-XR-Project-Moohan-Android-XR-platform-Google_main1-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Samsung-Mobile-XR-Project-Moohan-Android-XR-platform-Google_main1-696x391.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Samsung-Mobile-XR-Project-Moohan-Android-XR-platform-Google_main1-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /><figcaption>Project Moohan headset (Image: Samsung)</figcaption></figure>

<p>The Project Moohan headset, model SM-I610, is now almost confirmed to be powered by the Qualcomm’s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/09/28/qualcomm-snapdragon-xr2-gen-2-meta-quest-2/">Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2</a> chip thanks to the Geekbench listing. This chip rocks six Cortex-A78C cores—two clocked at 2.36GHz and four at 2.05GHz—paired with an Adreno 740 GPU, and is built specifically for XR applications.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="398" height="495" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/gsmarena_001-1.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-688757" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/gsmarena_001-1.jpg 398w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/gsmarena_001-1-241x300.jpg 241w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/gsmarena_001-1-338x420.jpg 338w" sizes="(max-width: 398px) 100vw, 398px" /><figcaption>Project Moohan (SM-I610) XR headset</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>It’s designed for smooth, immersive experiences, supporting low-latency full-color passthrough (12ms), Wi-Fi 7 for fast connections, and cool VR tricks like foveated rendering and Space Warp. That last one doubles frame rates by filling in missing frames, which could make VR feel snappier and help keep motion sickness at bay. With 16GB of RAM and Android 14 (likely the new Android XR OS), the headset has a revamped interface for virtual displays and hand-based controls, making it a powerhouse for mixed reality.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="650" height="487" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/samsung-gears-up-for-xr-smart-glasses-launch-eyes-ai-integration.webp?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-688763" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/samsung-gears-up-for-xr-smart-glasses-launch-eyes-ai-integration.webp 650w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/samsung-gears-up-for-xr-smart-glasses-launch-eyes-ai-integration-300x225.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/samsung-gears-up-for-xr-smart-glasses-launch-eyes-ai-integration-561x420.webp 561w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/samsung-gears-up-for-xr-smart-glasses-launch-eyes-ai-integration-80x60.webp 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/samsung-gears-up-for-xr-smart-glasses-launch-eyes-ai-integration-265x198.webp 265w" sizes="(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px" /></figure>

<h2>Project Haean / Project Jinju are speculated to be smart glasses</h2>

<p>Interestingly, another Samsung device, SM-I130—likely Project Haean or Jinju—also appeared on Geekbench with the same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip, 16GB of RAM, and Android 14. What’s surprising is that these are expected to be slim, glasses-like devices, yet they’re packing the same muscle as the bulkier Moohan headset. This could mean Samsung’s aiming for high-performance XR in a compact form, which is pretty exciting.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="377" height="454" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/gsmarena_003.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-688758" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/gsmarena_003.jpg 377w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/gsmarena_003-249x300.jpg 249w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/gsmarena_003-349x420.jpg 349w" sizes="(max-width: 377px) 100vw, 377px" /><figcaption>Project Haean or Jinju (SM-I130)</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>No official launch date’s been set for Project Moohan, but rumors point towards Samsung’s next Unpacked event, where new Galaxy foldables might share the spotlight. With its beefy specs and Google’s Android XR platform, this headset could give competitors like the Apple Vision Pro a run for their money. Stay tuned for what’s next as more information is likely to surface as we inch closer to the June-July Unpacked event.</p>

<h3><strong>Samsung XR headset: Project Moohan</strong></h3>

<p>First announced in December 2024, Samsung’s ‘Project Moohan’ XR headset promises to redefine how users interact with their physical and digital environments. The headset, powered by the new Android XR operating system developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm, will likely feature multimodal input capabilities. This includes eye tracking, hand gestures, and voice commands, enabling seamless control of apps and interactions.</p>

<p>The XR headset is expected to feature ultra-high-resolution OLEDoS displays, low-latency passthrough capabilities, and spatial computing powered by Qualcomm&#8217;s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip. With support for Google’s Gemini AI assistant, users may enjoy immersive features like Circle to Search, live text translation, and enhanced browsing via Google Chrome. While Samsung has not announced an official release date, it’s speculated the device will launch later this year with a price exceeding $2,000.</p>

<h3><strong>Samsung smart glasses teased</strong></h3>

<p>In addition to the XR headset, Samsung hinted at the development of AI-powered smart glasses. These could be powered by the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chip and Google’s Gemini platform, enabling voice and vision-based input.</p>

<p>Samsung CEO TM Roh also mentioned plans to bring smart glasses “as soon as possible,” suggesting the company is positioning itself to lead the next generation of wearable devices.</p>

<p>We are only hours away from the Galaxy Unpacked event. While we&#8217;re eagerly waiting for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a> to unveil the Galaxy S25 series, the company reportedly has plans to surprise all of us with something much bigger. According to a report from Business Korea, the company might showcase its XR headset, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/23/samsung-google-upcoming-xr-headset/">Project Moohan</a> in the event.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1000" height="562" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Mobile-XR-Project-Moohan-Android-XR-platform-Google_main1.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-669813" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Mobile-XR-Project-Moohan-Android-XR-platform-Google_main1.jpg 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Mobile-XR-Project-Moohan-Android-XR-platform-Google_main1-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Mobile-XR-Project-Moohan-Android-XR-platform-Google_main1-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Mobile-XR-Project-Moohan-Android-XR-platform-Google_main1-696x391.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Mobile-XR-Project-Moohan-Android-XR-platform-Google_main1-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></figure></div>

<p>As per industry sources, Samsung is set to introduce its XR headset with some videos. The company could also offer a hands-on demo of the headset at the event. While leaks revealed so far sound promising, it remains to be seen if the headset is indeed Samsung&#8217;s answer to Apple’s Vision Pro and Meta’s Quest 3. </p>

<p>The Galaxy Unpacked event is set to take place in San Jose, California, on January 22 at 10:00 am PT (11:30 PM IST). You can stream it live from Samsung&#8217;s website or official YouTube channel.</p>

<h2>Samsung&#8217;s XR headset is developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm</h2>

<p>For those unfamiliar, Samsung&#8217;s Project Moohan (the headset) is developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm for the OS and chipset. The headset uses Google&#8217;s Android XR operating system, which is reportedly designed for extended reality devices. For processing, the headset packs the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/01/05/qualcomm-launches-snapdragon-xr2-gen-2-platform-samsung-and-google-among-early-adopters/">Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2</a>. </p>

<p>This is the successor to the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2, which powers Meta&#8217;s latest mixed-reality headset – <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/06/02/meta-quest-3-vr-headset-spec-price/">Quest 3</a>. So, at least on the surface level, Samsung&#8217;s XR device has a higher raw performance capability and it possibly can do more than the already impressive Quest 3.</p>

<p>Google has already shared a few details about Samsung&#8217;s new project. It supports Google&#8217;s Find My Device and includes at least two app viewing modes.</p>

<p>Pre-order Samsung Galaxy phones now &amp; get up to $1,250 off + a chance to win $5,000 credit (US only) – <a href="https://howl.link/erlejlgnge89i">https://howl.link/erlejlgnge89i</a></p>

<p>Extended reality devices are certainly not mainstream yet and it will be interesting to see how much progress Samsung Google and Qualcomm have made towards that direction. I am personally excited to see the design, weight, and battery life of the device. </p>

<p>Apple couldn&#8217;t include the battery (which weighs over 350 grams) inside the headset as it would just make the product heavier. For those wondering, AVP weighs 600 -650g without the battery. Of course, these are high-performance devices and require a lot compute and power to operate.</p>

With plans to produce 500,000 units initially, Samsung is aiming to make a significant impact in the wearable tech market.</p>

<h2>Key details about Samsung’s XR glasses</h2>

<p>According to a research report by Wellsen XR and details from Maeil Business Newspaper, Samsung’s upcoming XR glasses will feature the Qualcomm AR1 chipset, the same processor powering the Ray-Ban Meta glasses. The device will also include a 12MP camera and a 155mAh battery, closely mirroring the battery capacity of the Meta product. At 50 grams, the Samsung glasses will be slightly heavier than their Meta counterpart.</p>

<p>Interestingly, the report suggests that <strong>Samsung’s XR glasses will not include a display</strong>. This design choice seems driven by the challenge of maintaining a lightweight and compact form factor similar to Ray-Ban Meta glasses. Instead, the focus shifts to other features, with Google&#8217;s Gemini AI assistant handling tasks like payments, QR code recognition, gesture recognition, and face recognition.</p>

<p>This advanced AI integration sets the Samsung XR glasses apart, potentially offering a more powerful feature set than the Meta counterpart. For example, while Meta glasses utilize AI for multimodal analysis, QR code scanning, reminders, and translation previews, Samsung appears poised to expand on these functionalities, enhancing usability and interactivity.</p>

<h2>There will also be a headset with more compute, more sensors, and high-resolution displays</h2>

<p>Alongside these glasses, Samsung is reportedly developing a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/03/samsung-plans-to-launch-its-mixed-reality-device-in-2025/">high-performance XR device </a>akin to the Apple Vision Pro. This premium headset, rumored to run on Qualcomm’s XR2+ Gen 2 platform, is expected to feature high-resolution displays and significantly higher computing power. While the glasses aim to cater to lightweight, everyday use, the XR headset could target immersive applications, providing a balanced portfolio for various user needs.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung</a> is gearing up for a grand re-entry into the extended reality (XR) or mixed reality (MR) space, nearly a decade after its successful Gear VR headset paved the way in the VR market.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/VR-headset.webp?x44794" alt="VR headset" class="wp-image-658175" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/VR-headset.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/VR-headset-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/VR-headset-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/VR-headset-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/VR-headset-747x420.webp 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<h3>Samsung’s XR Comeback: New Device Expected with Galaxy S25</h3>

<p>According to Samsung’s Q3 financial report, a new XR device is likely to be unveiled in 2025. This device will reportedly introduce advanced connectivity within Samsung’s ecosystem, cementing the company’s renewed commitment to XR technology.</p>

<p>This strategic shift comes at a time when the Google Play Store has <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/03/google-play-store-update-suggests-xr-headset-support/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">introduced a category specifically for XR apps</a>, signaling a broader push toward mainstream XR adoption.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="469" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Samsung-XR-headset-rumor-1024x469.png?x44794" alt="Samsung XR headset rumor" class="wp-image-658174" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Samsung-XR-headset-rumor-1024x469.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Samsung-XR-headset-rumor-300x137.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Samsung-XR-headset-rumor-768x352.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Samsung-XR-headset-rumor-1536x704.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Samsung-XR-headset-rumor-696x319.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Samsung-XR-headset-rumor-1068x489.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Samsung-XR-headset-rumor-917x420.png 917w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Samsung-XR-headset-rumor.png 1884w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The development of Samsung’s new XR device involves a collaboration with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/google/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/qualcomm/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Qualcomm</a>. Earlier this year, during the Galaxy S24 series announcement, Samsung unveiled its plans for this collaboration.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/08/27/samsungs-much-anticipated-vr-headset-spotted-on-geekbench-with-16gb-ram/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">XR device is rumored</a> to be powered by the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/01/05/qualcomm-launches-snapdragon-xr2-gen-2-platform-samsung-and-google-among-early-adopters/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2</a> chip and was recently spotted on Geekbench, showing 16GB RAM and a 6-core SoC &#8211; ideal for VR applications. Expected to run on Android 14, the headset may incorporate advanced sensors for environmental awareness, potential health tracking, and a micro-OLED display with high pixel density and enhanced brightness for immersive visuals. It may also include a feature similar to the Persona mode found on Apple’s Vision Pro.</p>

<p>Facing competition from Apple and Meta with products like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/02/03/apple-vision-pro-debuts-with-600-exclusive-apps-for-new-headset/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple Vision Pro</a> and Meta Quest series, Samsung is likely to unveil its XR device at the Galaxy Unpacked event in early 2025, alongside the Galaxy S25 series. This timing would allow Samsung to showcase an integrated Galaxy ecosystem, positioning the XR device as a seamless extension for Galaxy users.</p>

<p>With industry trends shifting towards lighter, smartphone-compatible AR glasses, there are also rumors that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/03/21/samsung-smart-glasses-design-patent/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung might introduce AR glasses</a> instead of a headset designed to work as smartphone companions. This strategy could make Samsung’s XR glasses an essential accessory for Galaxy smartphone users, bringing mixed reality features into everyday life.</p>

<p>As per reports, Samsung also may <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/31/samsung-s25-end-of-iconic-galaxy-branding/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">drop the &#8216;Galaxy&#8217; branding</a> for its upcoming S25 series, rebranding it as the Samsung S25 lineup. Additionally, the lineup may feature an S25 FE model as a budget-friendly option, potentially marketed as a “Slim” device.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a> is known to be working on a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/vr-headset/">VR headset</a> for a while. In the latest news, 91 Mobiles have spotted a Samsung device with 16GB RAM on the Geekbench database, which is expected to be the VR headset.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="728" height="400" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Samsung-Gear-VR-2.png?x44794" alt="Samsung Gear VR 2" class="wp-image-119914" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Samsung-Gear-VR-2.png 728w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Samsung-Gear-VR-2-300x165.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px" /><figcaption>Samsung Gear VR</figcaption></figure>

<p>The device is believed to be the VR headset and not an upcoming smartphone because most if not all of the smartphone chips used these days equip a total of 8 cores while the listing reveals that the device runs on a 6-core SoC. Interestingly, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/01/05/qualcomm-launches-snapdragon-xr2-gen-2-platform-samsung-and-google-among-early-adopters/">Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2</a> chip that is expected to power Samsung&#8217;s upcoming VR headset also comes with a 4+2 CPU cluster.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="653" height="811" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/51f0442e-8f41-40ca-9711-470530dfc028.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-647366" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/51f0442e-8f41-40ca-9711-470530dfc028.jpg 653w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/51f0442e-8f41-40ca-9711-470530dfc028-242x300.jpg 242w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/51f0442e-8f41-40ca-9711-470530dfc028-338x420.jpg 338w" sizes="(max-width: 653px) 100vw, 653px" /></figure></div>

<p>In addition to that, the Geekbench listing reveals that the device runs on a base frequency of 2.36GHz, which is also close to the 2.4 GHz clock speed of the chipset. While</p>

<p>The model number from the Geekbench listing further suggests that this is indeed the VR headset Samsung is working on. Previously, tipster Ronald Quandt noted that this model number represents the VR headset from Samsung.</p>

<p>While these are just rumors, a Samsung device with a 6-core chipset highly suggests it to be the upcoming VR headset from the company. The listing also reveals that the device runs on Android 14. While we don&#8217;t know much about the headset yet, a report from last month speculates that the device could run on Android. Patently Apple also previously revealed that Samsung&#8217;s VR headsets will run on the Android XR platform.</p>

<p>Speaking of the features we know so far, the device may come with a feature similar to Persona on the Apple Vision Pro. Not to mention, the device will include multiple sensors to observe the environment around it. The device may also offer some health-tracking features.</p>

<p>While <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/06/29/google-augmented-reality-glasses-cancelled/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google has canned</a> its development plans for its own AR headset (Augmented Reality), it appears that it hasn&#8217;t completely turned away from such headsets in general. The company is now working with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung </a>to build an XR headset (Extended Reality). </p>

<h2>Samsung and Google&#8217;s XR headset: Project Moohan</h2>

<p>According to a new report, the Search Engine giant is partnering up with the South Korean company for the development of a new XR headset. The new Samsung-branded headset is being internally referred to as Project Moohan, and the latest report has revealed some additional details. Apparently, Google is building the Android XR software for the upcoming headset. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="528" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Samsung-and-Google-Project-Moohan-1024x528.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung and Google Project Moohan" class="wp-image-560615" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Samsung-and-Google-Project-Moohan-1024x528.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Samsung-and-Google-Project-Moohan-300x155.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Samsung-and-Google-Project-Moohan-768x396.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Samsung-and-Google-Project-Moohan-1536x792.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Samsung-and-Google-Project-Moohan-696x359.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Samsung-and-Google-Project-Moohan-1068x551.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Samsung-and-Google-Project-Moohan-815x420.jpg 815w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Samsung-and-Google-Project-Moohan.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>It seems like the work is being carried out in strict secrecy since Samsung was concerned that other AR teams within Google would build a product that could compete with Project Moohan. For those unaware, Google is currently working on a &#8220;Micro XR&#8221; software platform for 3rd party manufacturers. In other words, a leak could be potentially harmful to Samsung&#8217;s new XR headset. </p>

<p>Another report hinted at Samsung postponing the launch of its own headset due to the launch of Apple&#8217;s Vision Pro. Basically, they were afraid that the former wouldn&#8217;t match up to the iPhone maker&#8217;s offering. Based on what we know so far, Project Moohan is expected to launch around the summer of next year. </p>

<p>Although, a source from within Google stated that the year-long period doesn&#8217;t feel adequate for developing a product that will capture the market&#8217;s attention in a manner similar to the Vision Pro. So it is possible that Samsung and Google could release a half-baked product in the market due to rushed development. But this is still just speculation, so take this report with a pinch of salt for now.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> has announced its next major launch event is scheduled for July 26. The highly anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event will introduce a range of exciting products, including the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, Tab S9 series, and Watch S6 series. Additionally, there are reports suggesting that Samsung might also unveil an XR headset during the same event. While the XR device has not been officially confirmed, Samsung has already provided teasers for the other upcoming devices that will be showcased at Galaxy Unpacked. Adding to the speculation, a new report from <em>GoAndroid</em> reveals that the battery of Samsung&#8217;s XR headset has received various certifications, indicating a potential launch later this month.</p>

<h3><strong>Samsung XR headset&#8217;s battery receives multiple certifications</strong></h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized is-style-default"><img loading="lazy" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Samsung-XR-headset-battery-1.png?x44794" alt="Samsung XR headset battery 1" class="wp-image-551209" width="652" height="525" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Samsung-XR-headset-battery-1.png 903w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Samsung-XR-headset-battery-1-300x242.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Samsung-XR-headset-battery-1-768x619.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Samsung-XR-headset-battery-1-696x561.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Samsung-XR-headset-battery-1-521x420.png 521w" sizes="(max-width: 652px) 100vw, 652px" /><figcaption>EB-BI610ABY battery bags SafetyKorea certification </figcaption></figure>

<p>The publication has spotted a battery having the EB-BI610ABY model number in the database of the SafetyKorea certification platform. This battery seems to be a successor to the older EB-BI120ABY battery, which was speculated to power unannounced Samsung AR Glasses with mode number SM-I120. Therefore, it is likely that the EB-BI610ABY battery will be used to power Samsung&#8217;s upcoming XR headset.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image is-style-default"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="878" height="325" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Samsung-XR-battery-BIS.png?x44794" alt="Samsung XR battery BIS" class="wp-image-551228" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Samsung-XR-battery-BIS.png 878w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Samsung-XR-battery-BIS-300x111.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Samsung-XR-battery-BIS-768x284.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Samsung-XR-battery-BIS-696x258.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 878px) 100vw, 878px" /><figcaption>EB-BI610ABY battery BIS certified</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>The EB-BI610ABY battery has also received approval from India&#8217;s BIS and China&#8217;s CQC certification platforms. This suggests that the XR headset may be launched not only in South Korea but also in India and China.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image is-style-default"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="529" height="879" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Samsung-Galaxy-XR-battery.png?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy XR battery" class="wp-image-551208" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Samsung-Galaxy-XR-battery.png 529w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Samsung-Galaxy-XR-battery-181x300.png 181w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Samsung-Galaxy-XR-battery-253x420.png 253w" sizes="(max-width: 529px) 100vw, 529px" /><figcaption>EB-BI610ABY battery image from SafetyKorea</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>A report that surfaced earlier this week claimed that Samsung had postponed the launch of its first XR headset by approximately <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/07/10/samsung-xr-headset-launch-delayed-due-to-apple-vision-pro/">three to six months</a>. Thus, there is a possibility that the company will confirm its existence at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event and subsequently launch it a few months later.</p>

<p>Samsung&#8217;s XR headset is expected to compete with Apple&#8217;s Vision Pro, a mixed reality (MR) headset, although specific technical specifications have not yet been revealed. Reports have mentioned collaborations between the South Korean company and Qualcomm and Google for the development of this product.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/samsung-odyssey-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="samsung-odyssey" class="wp-image-550180" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/samsung-odyssey-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/samsung-odyssey-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/samsung-odyssey-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/samsung-odyssey-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/samsung-odyssey-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/samsung-odyssey-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/samsung-odyssey.jpg 1440w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<h2>The Implications of Apple&#8217;s Vision Pro on Samsung&#8217;s XR Project</h2>

<p>The decision to reevaluate the XR project was prompted by the unveiling of Apple&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mixed-reality/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">mixed reality</a> (MR) headset, known as &#8216;<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/06/05/apple-vision-pro-mixed-reality-headset-unveiled-pricing-starts-at-3499/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vision Pro</a>.&#8217; Samsung took into account the specifications and features of Apple&#8217;s competitor product, leading to a reconsideration of the design, internal specifications, and overall performance of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung&#8217;s</a> XR offering.</p>

<p>Previously, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung</a> collaborated with Oculus in 2014 to release the &#8216;Gear VR&#8217; headset, followed by the launch of Odyssey Plus in 2018. However, these products failed to gain significant traction due to performance limitations and the lack of a well-established XR market. User feedback also highlighted inconveniences associated with docking the devices with smartphones.</p>

<p>To enhance its XR capabilities, Samsung Electronics established the Immersive Display Lab within its Mobile Experience (MX) Business Unit, dedicated to XR research and development. While specific details about Samsung&#8217;s XR devices remain undisclosed, industry experts anticipate the integration of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Qualcomm</a> chipsets and Google operating systems (OS) to deliver innovative features. The upcoming products are expected to take the form of goggles, glasses, or <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/headset/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">headsets</a> and are likely to be compatible with Galaxy smartphones and watches.</p>
