The trademark listing from the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) indicated that the device bearing the specified name was under Class 9 (mobile communications device, possibly a smartphone). </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Before now, Samsung had also <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/19/samsung-galaxy-z-roll-rollable-smartphone/">trademarked the Z Roll</a> extendable display device from the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO). While the Z Roll will have an extendable display that expands horizontally, the Z Slide will come with a vertically expanding display, which could mean that the device could be a smartphone. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide.jpg?x96852"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-391063" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide.jpg?x96852" alt="Samsung Z Slide" width="1200" height="850" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide-300x213.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide-768x544.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide-1024x725.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide-100x70.jpg 100w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide-696x493.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide-1068x757.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide-593x420.jpg 593w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There has been an increase in research and development of extendable display smartphones by various OEMs, and Samsung has remained at the forefront of research along that line. Just last week, the display arm of Samsung highlighted <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/17/samsung-s-foldable-multi-fold-display/">some of the work-in-progress displays</a> slated for incorporation into Samsung&#8217;s future smartphones. These included the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/04/30/samsung-trademarks-s-foldable-display/">S-Foldable panel</a>, which is the likely component for the Z Slide, when operational. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The 7.2-inch S-Foldable display will support multiple fold patterns, which will be a boon for device versatility. The Z Slide could be a rollable version of the Z Flip, which will deploy some innovative technology in the mechanism that would drive the operation of the retractable display. It was earlier reported that a chain-link system could be used to maintain the performance and durability of the flexible display.  <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide-2.jpg?x96852"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-391064" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide-2.jpg?x96852" alt="Samsung Z Slide" width="1200" height="833" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide-2.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide-2-300x208.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide-2-768x533.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide-2-1024x711.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide-2-100x70.jpg 100w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide-2-218x150.jpg 218w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide-2-696x483.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide-2-1068x741.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/samsung-z-slide-2-605x420.jpg 605w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As per possible rollout information and price, it is unlikely that the device will be unveiled this year, possibly sometime in 2022. Samsung is set to launch a couple of foldable devices within the third quarter of 2021. It is after these devices have been released that we&#8217;ll look forward to the launch of the Z Roll or Z Slide.</span></p>
