The new card from SanDisk is priced at $1,999.99. According to a report from Tom’s Hardware, that’s more than four times the cost of SanDisk’s own 2TB UHS-I card, which sells for under $500.

In the United States, pricing starts at $54.99 for 500GB and reaches $299.99 for the 4TB model.

SanDisk has launched a new 512GB microSD Express card aimed at creators, adventurers, and gamers who need high-speed, durable storage in a compact format. It is priced at 1499 yuan on JD.com and $119.99 on Amazon.

SanDisk 512GB microSD Express Specifications

The card uses PCIe 3.1 NVMe technology to deliver read speeds of up to 880MB/s. The 512GB and 256GB models reach write speeds of up to 650MB/s with sustained write speeds of 210MB/s.

The 128GB model offers the same maximum read speed but writes at up to 480MB/s, with a sustained rate of 100MB/s. These speeds place it close to mainstream portable SSDs and far ahead of standard microSD UHS-I cards.

The card supports 5.3K and 4K video recording, high-resolution RAW photography, and slow-motion footage. It works with PCIe NVMe and is backward compatible with microSD UHS-I devices, covering Android smartphones, tablets, drones, action cameras, laptops, and handheld gaming consoles. It is also compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2.

The card is resistant to water, extreme temperatures, humidity, drops, shocks, magnetic interference, X-rays, and abrasion. SanDisk includes its ThermAdapt technology, which uses a specially designed shell and controller with dynamic thermal management to prevent overheating during heavy workloads.

When paired with the SanDisk Pro-Reader SD Express dual-slot card reader, the card reduces transfer times significantly. Transfers of a 60-minute 4K30 video can be up to 2.8 minutes faster, while 2,000 10MP RAW images move up to 2.9 minutes faster. Under optimal conditions, a two-hour HD movie transfers in less than 3.5 seconds

The card comes with a lifetime limited warranty and a two-year subscription to SanDisk’s RescuePro Deluxe file recovery service. It measures 14.99mm by 10.92mm by 1.02mm and operates in temperatures from -25°C to 85°C, with storage tolerance from -40°C to 85°C.

SanDisk has demonstrated a new high-capacity SSD that could redefine storage scalability for AI and cloud-based infrastructure. As revealed by the brand, this SSD is built on a fresh platform architecture designed to meet the growing performance and efficiency needs of hyperscale environments.

SanDisk’s 256TB NVMe SSD sets new capacity benchmark

SanDisk has demoed a 256TB NVMe SSD built on the company’s new UltraQLC platform. This storage solution combines BiCS8 QLC NAND, custom multi-core controllers, and advanced system-level tuning to deliver a new level of density and efficiency. The platform is developed to meet the evolving demands of AI-centric tasks such as data ingestion, processing, and the fast delivery of insights in large-scale data lake environments.

The SSD supports Direct Write QLC, which writes directly to QLC NAND without relying on SLC caching, improving performance and power loss safety. The BiCS8 QLC die used in this SSD doubles the density per chip while keeping the die size compact. SanDisk has also introduced UltraQLC power optimization through dynamic frequency scaling, which is projected to improve performance per watt by up to 10 percent.

Reliability enhancements include a Data Retention profile expected to reduce recycle rates by up to 33 percent, offering better drive lifespan and access stability. SanDisk has confirmed that the UltraQLC-based 256TB SSD and the SN670 128TB variant will launch in U.2 form factor in the first half of 2026. Additional form factors are expected to follow later in the year.

Western Digital has launched new storage solutions in India. These include four new SanDisk Pro-Grade devices i.e. PRO-G40 SSD, G-DRIVE Enterprise Class Desktop Hard Drive, G-RAID Shuttle SSD, and PRO-DOCK 4. The storage devices provide multiple facilities to the user. Western Digital says that they are aimed at content creators and professionals. The goal is to help users store and manage content. Read on to know what the storage devices offer out of the box. 

The SanDisk Professional PRO-G40 is the most rugged SSD storage device from the brand to date. It features an IP68 certification letting users carry in the rain. The device is 1800kg crush resistant and drop-resistant up to 3 meters. The PRO-G40 has a Thunderbolt 3 and a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port.  The former offers read/write speeds of 2,700 MB/s and 1,900 MB/s respectively. The cold aluminium core helps maintain super-fast transfer speeds. WD claims that the storage device can transfer 50GB files in 30 seconds. 

The SanDisk Professional G-DRIVE Enterprise Class Desktop is basically a hard drive. It has a premium and elegant form factor. There is a single USB-C port that is claimed to offer 280 MB read and write speed per second. 

The SanDisk Professional G-RAID Shuttle SSD is an 8-bay solid-state storage that is designed for convenient transport between the production site and the studio for post-production. It has Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C connectors with the former offering read speeds up to 2800 MB/s. The device has up to 32TB of storage that is capable of transferring 4K, 8K, VR, HDR, and high-frame-rate content. The Thunderbolt 3 port can be used to connect up to five devices at once. 

Lastly, the SanDisk Professional PRO-DOCK 4 is a four-bay reader docking station. It has a Thunderbolt port. The storage solution can be used to offload four SanDisk Professional PRO-READER devices simultaneously. 

The SanDisk PRO-G40 SSD and PRO-DOCK 4 are priced at Rs 34,999 and come with a 5-year warranty. The G-DRIVE Enterprise Class Desktop HDD starts at Rs 19,999 for 4TB with a 3-year warranty. The G-RAID SHUTTLE SSD carries a starting price tag of Rs. 3,99,999 in India with a 5-year warranty.

All the newly announced storage devices are available for purchase through the Western Digital Store (Andheri West), authorized SanDisk Professional retailers, e-tailers, and distributors across India.

There are a bunch of smartphones out there that say they support up to 2TB microSD cards. News flash! There is no 2TB microSD card, neither is there a 1TB microSD card nor a 512GB microSD card. Up until yesterday, the largest capacity you could get was 256GB. Yesterday at IFA Berlin, SanDisk launched a new microSD card slot with a 400GB capacity making it the largest capacity you can get on a microSD card for now.

So while these smartphones may say they do support 2TB cards, there is no way to confirm if it is indeed true.

The SanDisk microSD card has a read speed of up to 100MB/S. Write speeds are lower but you should be able to transfer 4.1GB of photos using a USB 3.0 card reader in a minute.

The microSD card is rated A1, which means it can load apps faster if you use it as an adoptable storage on an Android device. Its Class 10 and U1 rating also means you can shoot Full HD videos and take high resolution images on it.

SanDisk says the microSD card will cost $249.99 when it goes on sale. There is no specific date as to when to expect it to go on sale.

Production for the iPhone 8 is underway and news reaching us from China reveals the storage variants. According to a post by a Weibo user, the iPhone 8 will be setting the record for storage.

The post says the device will have 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB models. It also reveals the suppliers for the flash storage. Long time Apple supplier Toshiba, will produce the 64GB and 256GB flash storage along with SanDisk. For the 512GB flash storage, rival and business partner Samsung, will supply it alongside Hynix.

A previous post by the same user says that the iPhone 7s, iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 8 will have new storage variants. Although there is no confirmation yet about the above storage variants but even if true, some like the 512GB version might be limited to the iPhone 8 only.

Just know that the new storage will also translate to a higher price. But this is an iPhone we are talking about, so it would sell.
