<p>The vulnerabilities affect multiple Apple products, including iOS, iPadOS, macOS, visionOS, and Safari. Users are urged to update their devices to the latest versions:</p>



<ul><li><strong>iOS and iPadOS:</strong> iOS 18.1.1 and iPadOS 18.1.1</li><li><strong>macOS:</strong> macOS Sequoia 15.1.1</li><li><strong>visionOS:</strong> visionOS 2.1.1</li><li><strong>Safari:</strong> Safari 18.1.1</li></ul>



<p>The updates are available for a wide range of devices, including recent iPhone and iPad models, as well as Mac computers running macOS Ventura and Sonoma. Apple Vision Pro users should also update their devices to visionOS 2.1.1.</p>



<p>While Apple has not disclosed specific details about the exploits, it has confirmed that they were actively used to target vulnerabilities in JavaScriptCore and WebKit. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has strongly recommended that all users apply the updates promptly to protect their devices from potential attacks.</p>



<p>In other news, Apple has also come under fire from Samsung this month in a new <a href="https://gizmochina.com/2024/11/14/samsung-again-creates-controversy-by-attacking-apple-on-innovation/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">&#8220;Simon Says&#8221; ad campaign</a> mocks Apple&#8217;s perceived lack of innovation in recent iPhones, promoting its Galaxy lineup&#8217;s features like the Z Flip 6&#8217;s flip screen and AI tools. However, the ad&#8217;s tone sparked mixed reactions, with critics questioning Samsung&#8217;s own innovation track record.</p>

<p>As per the <a href="https://community.oneplus.com/thread/1521127050243473413" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">announcement thread</a>, the previous update firmware OxygenOS 14.0.0.201 is now paused, and the new firmware OxygenOS 14.0.0.3 will be made available to all users. The reason seems to be some issues that popped up with the previous update on India Variants. </p>



<p>Talking about the new update, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-nord-3/">OnePlus Nord 3</a> will receive the January 2024 Android security patch, which also improves the system&#8217;s stability and performance. It even extends the battery life. The update fixes issues related to the theme store, and the background stream feature is now unavailable in the Smart Sidebar. <p>It is an incremental update and may take time to reach each unit over the coming few days. The update will first be made available to a small number of users before a broader rollout. Users can report any bugs and issues via the OnePlus Community or Google Dialer (in India only) by typing *#800#.</p>



<h2><strong>OnePlus Nord 3 Update Features</strong></h2>



<p>Additionally, the OnePlus Nord 3 already received the OxygenOS 14 update, featuring all the new luxuries and feature enhancements. The Android 14-based OxygenOS 14 update is now available on most of the compatible OnePlus smartphones. However, the updates are scheduled for the remaining devices in the coming few weeks or months. </p>

The smartphone is now receiving an updated security patch along with One UI 5.1 custom skin. So here are all the details.</p>



<h2>Samsung Galaxy F23 5G August Security Patch</h2>



<p>The South Korean tech giant is bringing the new firmware version E236B\XXU4CWI1/E236BODM4CWI1 /E236BXXU4CWH1. This update has a download size of just over 700MB. It brings the security patch for the month of August 2023. In other words, the company has improved the overall security levels of the Galaxy F23 5G. The smartphone has now received the One UI 5.1 custom skin version.</p>

Here, you can tap on check for new updates and download and install the new software built on your device. It is worth noting that downloading the update is recommended on a Wi-Fi connection. <h2>Samsung Galaxy F23 5G Specs</h2>



<p>The Samsung Galaxy F23 5G sports a tall 6.6-inch LCD panel that offers a Full HD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile, the rear features a 50-megapixel triple camera setup. The front also houses an 8-megapixel selfie shooter. Under the hood, the smartphone is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G SoC that is paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 120GB of internal storage. A large 5,000mAh battery pack that supports 25W wired fast charging. </p>

<h2>Moto G52: September 2023 Android Security Update</h2>



<p>Motorola is bringing the firmware version of S1SRS32.38-132-15, which has a total size of around 76MB. Unfortunately, the company is only bringing the updated security patch but isn&#8217;t bringing any major changes that will improve system performance or target any bugs. For those unaware, security patch updates basically enhance the security of your smartphone and these are typically released on a monthly basis.</p>

Under the hood, the smartphone is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 SoC that is paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. </p>



<p>A large 5,000mAh battery pack powers this device, which supports 30W fast charging. Other notable features include a side mounted fingerprint scanner, Android 13 OS, Adreno 610, a lightweight 169 gram design, and more. It arrives in Charcoal Gray and Porcelain White color option. <h2>What&#8217;s New in the July Android Security Update for Google Pixel Devices</h2>



<p>The update includes two specific fixes for the Pixel Tablet, addressing issues related to battery and charging performance as well as occasional display problems with lock screen notifications. These improvements aim to enhance the overall user experience on the Pixel Tablet.</p>



<p>In terms of security, Google <a href="https://source.android.com/docs/security/bulletin/pixel" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">has published</a> the Android Security Bulletin for July, which consists of two patch levels: July 1 and July 5. The July 1 patches address vulnerabilities in the Android framework, system, and Wi-Fi, including some marked as critical severity. The July 5 patches provide vendor-specific fixes and close a total of 20 vulnerabilities, with one critical vulnerability identified (CVE-2023-21629).</p>



<p>The Android 13 July security patch is now rolling out to various Pixel devices, including the Pixel 4a, 4a 5G, 5, 5a, 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, and Tablet. Notably, the update size varies, with the Pixel Tablet receiving a 23.27MB update and the Pixel 7 getting a 21.67MB update.</p>



<p>This update also marks the first regular security update for the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-fold/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pixel Fold</a> and Pixel Tablet, both of which were announced at Google I/O in May and started shipping in June. While the update is currently rolling out to Google Pixel devices, some <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung</a> handsets have already received it. Users can easily check for the update by going to Settings &gt; System &gt; System update on their Pixel devices.</p>

<p>According to a recent report by Mandiant, a leading information security company, hackers exploited 55 zero-day <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/vulnerability/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">vulnerabilities</a> in 2022. Zero-day vulnerabilities refer to security flaws in software that are publicly disclosed or exploited before the company responsible for patching it is aware of the issue. Due to the lack of protections or firewalls in place, hackers often take advantage of these vulnerabilities to carry out attacks.</p>

<p>The report by Mandiant found that the three largest technology vendors in the world, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/microsoft/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Microsoft</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google</a>, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple/">Apple</a>, were the most commonly exploited vendors for the third year in a row, with 18, 10, and 9 zero-day vulnerabilities respectively. The most frequently affected product types were <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/operating-system/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">operating systems</a> (19), <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/browser/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">browsers</a> (11), <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/security/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">security</a>, IT, and network management products (10), and mobile operating systems (6).</p>



<p>Interestingly, the report revealed that desktop operating systems were most exploited, with 19 zero-day vulnerabilities identified. Windows was the most affected, with 15 zero-day flaws, followed by macOS with four. In the case of mobile operating systems, 5 zero-day vulnerabilities were exploited in iOS and one in Android.</p>



<p>The report also highlights that China was the country that exploited the most zero-day vulnerabilities in 2022, followed by North Korea and Russia.</p>



<p>While the number of zero-day vulnerabilities exploited in 2022 decreased from the previous year, the report indicates that these kinds of exploits will likely continue. The report recommends that organizations take proactive measures to address these vulnerabilities, such as implementing security patches and conducting regular vulnerability assessments.</p>

It is important for organizations to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent potential zero-day vulnerabilities from being exploited by cybercriminals.</p>

<p>Google&#8217;s March security patch for Android has revealed a potentially serious vulnerability in the Pixel&#8217;s Markup screenshot tool. Reverse engineers Simon Aarons and David Buchanan discovered the &#8220;aCropalypse&#8221; flaw, which enables someone to take a PNG screenshot cropped in Markup and undo some of the image&#8217;s edits. This could be abused by a malicious actor to reveal sensitive information redacted by a Pixel owner using Markup. Buchanan has revealed the flaw has existed since Markup&#8217;s launch alongside <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/android-9">Android 9</a> Pie in 2018, with older images at risk due to Google&#8217;s oversight. </p>



<p>Although March&#8217;s security patch prevents Markup from compromising future images, the patch isn&#8217;t available on all Pixel devices, meaning vulnerable images can still be produced. The vulnerability may not affect some social media platforms such as <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/twitter">Twitter</a>, as these may process images in a way that makes it difficult to reverse-edit them. However, other chat apps like <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/discord">Discord</a> are still vulnerable, and it&#8217;s unclear if other social media and chat apps are similarly affected. Google has yet to respond to requests for comment and further information. Pixel owners are advised to avoid using Markup to share sensitive images until the patch is available on all devices.</p>

<p>Samsung&#8217;s latest security patch for the foldable superphone includes more than 60 high-risk vulnerabilities and five critical vulnerabilities and exposures. The patch also includes over a dozen Galaxy-specific fixes. It is important to update your device with this patch as soon as possible to protect against these security vulnerabilities.</p>



<p>In addition to addressing security vulnerabilities, Samsung&#8217;s latest patch for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 also includes bug fixes and improvements. The patch does not include any new features, as One UI 5 and Android 13 were recently released for a number of Samsung devices. It is typical for monthly patches to include bug fixes and improvements without introducing new features.</p>



<p>Samsung has been delivering major Android updates quickly in recent years. The company took just a couple of months to release the One UI 5/Android 13 update, compared to previous release times that could take twice as long or longer. The One UI 5 update has been well-received, with improved fluidity of the interface being a standout feature. It is expected that the Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Z Flip 4, and older Samsung flagship devices will receive the latest security patch soon.</p>

<p>According to the <a href="https://www.sammobile.com/news/galaxy-a51-january-2022-security-update-released/">latest report</a> coming from <em>SamMobile</em>, the South Korean giant has rolled out a new software update for the Galaxy A51 smartphone that brings the January 2022 security patch to the device.</p>

<p>The update, which carries version A515FXXU5EUL3, is currently being rolled out in Malaysia and Russia. If you are in these regions, then you should be receiving the over-the-air update soon if you still haven&#8217;t received it.</p>
<p>You can also manually check for the availability of this new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/update">software update</a> on your smartphone by navigating to the <em>Settings &gt; Software update</em> and then tapping on the <em>Download &amp; Install</em> button.</p>
<p>It is interesting to see that the Samsung Galaxy A51 smartphone, which is a mid-range offering the company, receive the latest January 2021 security patch. Usually, the flagship or <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/flagship-smartphone">premium smartphones</a> from the brand are among the first to get new updates.</p>
<p>As the update has now been rolled out for the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-a51-5g/">Galaxy A51 smartphone</a>, we expect the South Korean giant to soon roll out a new software update with January 2022 security patch for the Galaxy S21-series and the S20-series smartphones.</p>
<p>The Samsung Galaxy A51 is also set to receive the latest <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-one-ui-4">One UI 4.0 update</a> but users will have to wait a few more months as the update is scheduled to be available in April 2022.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s8-g950f/">Samsung Galaxy S8</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s8-plus-g955f/">Samsung Galaxy S8+</a> with model numbers SM-G950F and SM-G955F respectively are getting a new update. As per the Sammobile report, the S8 is getting the firmware version <strong>G950FXXSBDUA3  </strong>and S8+ <strong>G955FXXSBDUA3 </strong>across Latin America(Exynos models).</p>
<p>Back in February 2019, Samsung rolled out the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/one-ui">One UI</a> update for the Galaxy S8-Series delivering the promise of extending the One UI to older Android versions(<a href="http://www.gizmochina.comt/tag/android-9">pie</a>). However, they haven&#8217;t received any major updates after that. In fact, the company pushed them to the Quarterly cycle last year.</p>
<p>Considering it&#8217;s been four years since the official launch, it is appreciative of Samsung to at least roll out the security patches for those who are clinging on to their devices. Speaking of which, Samsung Galaxy S8&#8217;s IP68 and GPS locator <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/07/24/samsung-galaxy-s8s-ip68-rating-and-gps-locator-save-tourists-whose-boat-capsized-at-sea/">have saved lives</a> in the past. The devices, which were a solid offering of their time, might still be living to see another day for some even today.</p>
<p>Hence, if you are someone who is having one of these devices, we suggest you update it to the latest security patch ASAP(as soon as possible). You can do it by navigating to Settings-&gt;Software Update-&gt;Download and Install.</p>
<p>Coming back, the <a href="https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-galaxy-s8-receiving-january-2021-security-update/">update</a> doesn&#8217;t have any other changes apart from the January 2021 <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/security-patch">security patch</a>. And this OTA(over-the-air) should extend to all the other regions and versions soon so if you haven&#8217;t received it yet, don&#8217;t panic.</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400">SRLabs has been monitoring security patches delivered by OEMs to their devices for the last two years. They made a report with the help of crowdsourced data from its SnoopSnitch application as well as its own collection of firmware builds. The firm identified a total of 10,000 and 7,000 unique firmware builds with different security levels in 2018 and 2019 respectively.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">As per their analysis, in 2019, OEMs missed only about half of the patches compared to 2018. Also, the delivery speed was faster by 15%, decreasing the average number of days taken to incorporate a patch from 44 days to 38 days. That means the rate of missed patches fell to 0.3 from 0.7 in the previous year.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Another interesting find was companies tend to patch devices with the most widely deployed Android version. For instance, </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Samsung"><span style="font-weight: 400">Samsung </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">and </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Xiaomi"><span style="font-weight: 400">Xiaomi </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">patched their devices with Android 7.1.1 first in most cases. This led to the delaying of updates for the handset running the recent versions of Android.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">As far as overall performance is concerned, </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Google"><span style="font-weight: 400">Google</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">, Sony, and Nokia topped the chart as their devices run near-stock Android and hence it is easy to implement patches. Whereas, </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Huawei"><span style="font-weight: 400">Huawei</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">, LG, and Samsung took an average of 2 weeks.  Lastly, all other major OEMs including </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Oppo"><span style="font-weight: 400">Oppo</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">, Xiaomi, </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Vivo/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Vivo</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">, </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/OnePlus"><span style="font-weight: 400">OnePlus</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">, Motorola, </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ASUS/"><span style="font-weight: 400">ASUS</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">, and others patched their devices within a month on average.</span></p>

<p>The November security patch has resolved 6 high-severity bugs in the main framework that could enable a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code under the privileged process. Similarly, several high-severity bugs in media framework and system are fixed in the November security patch.</p>
<p>Apart from the usual Security patch, the Pixel 4 series also received new camera enhancements which will improve the overall picture quality. Google has not highlighted any specific feature that has been upgraded in the Pixel 4 series camera but will enhance the picture quality. The update also added, &#8220;Smooth Display improvements&#8221; to fix the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/10/27/pixel-4-display-wont-run-at-90hz-for-apps-like-google-maps-wechat-4-apps-blacklisted/">refresh rate adjustment issue,</a> which was reported by several users and even got an eye of prominent media houses.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-2/">Pixel 2</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-2-xl/">Pixel 2 XL</a> series also received some improvements and new features. A notable Xbox Bluetooth controller mapping feature support has arrived for almost every Pixel device excluding the first generation Pixel. There were several improvements related to Google Assistant hotword, fix for devices getting stuck in bootloop, and a lot more changes are part of the latest update.</p>

<p>It is important to mention that the only plausible reason <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus">OnePlus</a> is rolling out August&#8217;s security patch ahead of the Pixels and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/essential-phone/">Essential Phone</a>, which are known to be the first set of phones to get security patch updates, is because the OnePlus duo won&#8217;t be getting Android Q right away.</p>

<p>Going by last year&#8217;s release date for Android Pie, Android Q should arrive tomorrow and we expect it to come with the August security patch for the Pixels and Essential Phone.</p>
<p>Back to the update for the OnePlus 7, OxygenOS 9.5.8 which is 303MB in size, fixes some touch issues and updates Google Mobile Services to that of June 2019. Below is the full change-log:</p>

<p>The OnePlus 7 is the cheaper version of the OnePlus 7 duo, it swaps the pop-up selfie camera of the Pro version for a camera notch in the display. It also skips the 90Hz refresh rate of the Pro version and has only two cameras on its back. OnePlus has also stuck to its 20W fast charging for the OnePlus 7 while giving the OnePlus 7 Pro Warp Charge 30 (30W). <p>This marks the second security update I have received since I got my hands on the phone. The Redmi Go arrived with Android 8.1 Oreo (Go edition) with January&#8217;s security patch. An update along with February&#8217;s security patch was available after setup and now it has received May&#8217;s security patch.</p>

<p>It appears Redmi will release security updates every three months for the device. However, there is still no news of an update to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/08/16/android-9-pie-go-edition-announced-arrives-this-fall/">Android Pie (Go Edition)</a>.</p>
<p>The Redmi Go has a 5.0-inch HD display, a Snapdragon 425 processor and 1 GB of RAM. Initially, it was only available with 8GB of storage but <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/27/xiaomi-redmi-go-16-gb-edition-launch-for-rs-4799-69/">Redmi announced a 16GB version for the Indian market yesterday</a>. We don&#8217;t know if this new version will eventually replace the 8GB version just as the Redmi Note 7S will replace the Redmi Note 7 in India. There is also no news of the new storage variant being available outside India.</p>
<p>The rest of the specs are an 8MP rear camera, a 5MP selfie camera, a 3.5mm audio jack, a MicroUSB port, dual SIM slots, a dedicated MicroSD card slot, and a 3000mAh battery.</p>

<p>As per the changelog, Google has mitigated 15 critical issues and some other bugs. Although, users didn&#8217;t report any flaw in the past affecting the overall UX, UI of the device. The new security build does not include any functional update as like of the previous builds.</p>
<p>The new update measures around 135.7MB in size on the Pixel 3 XL. The update is rolling out to all the Pixel devices and will be available on your device too. In order to check the update, you should head over to the device&#8217;s settings and then download the OTA update.</p>
<p>The new update does not carry any Pixel device specific updates. All the generic development has been taken place in the latest February security patch and it will be available for other Android devices very soon. Although as per the blog post on Google Security Bulletin, the search giant has added that, <em>&#8220;The most severe of these issues is a critical security vulnerability in Framework that could allow a remote attacker using a specially crafted PNG file to execute arbitrary code within the context of a privileged process. The severity assessment is based on the effect that exploiting the vulnerability would possibly have on an affected device, assuming the platform and service mitigations are turned off for development purposes or if successfully bypassed. We have had no reports of active customer exploitation or abuse of these newly reported issues.&#8221;</em></p>

<p>The feature, named Bone ID, uses bone conduction technology to match the pattern of the voice of the user. Using this Bone ID, owners can simply use their voice to unlock their phone or authorize payment transactions.</p>
<p>Notably, this is the biggest update for both these smartphones till date. It brings support for FlyPods Pro Bluetooth headsets and payments function which can now be controlled through voice-based commands. For those who are unaware, FlyPods Pro is a wireless Bluetooth headset launched by Huawei in October 2018 along with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-honor-magic-2/">Honor Magic 2</a> smartphone.</p>
<p>The update also brings a new version of the Android system security patch, ensuring that the smartphones are up-to-date in terms of security to minimize risks. It also brings fixes for screen playback issues where the screen turns black during multi-tasking.</p>
<p>The company has also introduced a few AI-based features such as AI Smart Scheduling that enhances the phone&#8217;s gaming experience. Huawei is currently rolling out the update over-the-air (OTA) and should be available for everyone to update.</p>
