In the not-so-distant past, the March security update and the March Feature Drop for most eligible Pixel devices was released one week later than expected on March 13th, causing Pixel 6 series models to wait an additional week until March 20th to install the latest security patches and new features. During this time, the Pixel 6 series faced a serious flaw in Samsung’s Exynos modems, leaving them in dire need of the March security update to patch the vulnerability.

Although some Pixel 6 series users on Verizon haven’t even received the March update, a Reddit subscriber with a Pixel 5 reported receiving the April security update on March 27th and provided a screenshot as proof. The screenshot shows the Redditor’s device sporting the April 5 security patch with the build number TQ2A.230405.003. Google typically releases monthly updates on the first Monday of each month, with the next expected date being April 3rd. Ironically, a Reddit user reported receiving the March security update way earlier.

If you think you’re that lucky and want to check for available updates on your Pixel device, navigate to Settings > System > System update. However, it is likely that your phone will be up to date. Google is expected to launch the Android 14 Beta program sometime in April, with the Android 14 Developer Preview 2 already available for developers to optimize their apps. The upcoming Android 14 build is nicknamed “Upside Down Cake.” Assuming that Android 14 Beta 1 is released in April, the Android 14 Beta program could reach Platform Stability by June, at which point developers expect no more changes impacting their apps. Pixel users may then join the Beta program with less risk. The final version of Android 14 may be released in August or September.

The Huawei Mate 20 series featured the HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset, which was based on the 7nm process. In terms of performance, the device is still a capable handset. Although, on the Chinese tech giant’s official website, Huawei removed the names of three devices from its EMUI security update list. This included the Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, and Mate 20 X, which will no longer receive either the monthly or quarterly security patches, as per an AnTuTu report.

Editor’s Pick: Huawei MateBook X Pro 2021 with 3K display and 11th gen Intel chipset now up for pre order

At the moment, it seems that only the Mate 20 X 5G variant will receive the update, however, the rest of the Mate 20 lineup will are no longer on the security update list. The flagship series aren’t exactly dated by today’s standards but Huawei has decided to end the support of these devices. So this report arrives as a reminder to the owners of these smartphones.

For those unaware, the Huawei Mate 20 series is a flagship model from the company from back in 2018 and featured top notch specs for its time. This included the Kirin 980 SoC paired with 40W fast charging and a 40 megapixel primary rear camera, which was said to be one of the best performers of that year.

OnePlus is currently in the process of sending out an OTA update to the OnePlus 3 and 3T models with the October 2019 security patch and an updated version of Google apps. But this will be the last update from the company, ending its official support after more than three years. The update is being rolled out in stages and some users will likely have to wait for a few days to receive it.

Even without official support, there are multiple third party ROM options available for both these devices right now. We already have ROMs like Lineage OS and Nitrogen OS in development that brings Android 10 to these devices. Also, in the OpenEars forum held at Goa, India earlier this year, OnePlus promised to actively promote custom ROMs for EOL (End Of Life) devices. So OnePlus 3 and 3T still likely has a year or two in terms of unofficial support.

As for the existing devices, OnePlus has already rolled out Android 10 with the October security patch to all of its 2019 models, including the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro. Only the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G model is left out of this lot since the new Android version will be rolled out to the device in Q1 2020.
