As an emerging mode of transportation, electric bicycles, also known as eBikes, are considered healthy and environmentally-friendly options for the urban city. And also because of the electric-assist system, it’s more efficient and energy-saving than traditional bicycles. Especially with the covid issue ravaging the world, eBikes are growing in popularity and have become one of the best healthy travel options for ordinary people. But compared to traditional bicycles, the heavy battery pack and the key power system adds to its bulky body. This was one of the most common reasons why people wouldn’t shift to eBikes. But in recent years, we’ve seen a few new models that fixed this issue and even brought some innovative features. ADO A20 foldable eBike Review: Design

Well, the ADO A20 ebike gives us a very familiar feel at first glance. It looks no different from an ordinary foldable mountain bike. But don’t get me wrong here: this is certainly not a drawback. As an emerging mode of transport, it’s much more acceptable to give riders a familiar feel and lower learning curve. Actually, it does have a design that combines the best of both, the foldable bike and the mountain bike. The tire size of the AOD A20’s wheels is 20×1.95 inches. And the inflatable rubber tire is also applied with the same kind of pattern used for mountain bikes, which can provide excellent grip, along with anti-skid and explosion-proofness in all kinds of road surfaces. 

The wheels are also made of the light-weight Aluminum alloy with the strong classic six-axis design. And both wheels are equipped with fenders and expensive Disc-brake brake pads, so braking reliability is not an issue at all. What surprised us was the multi-shock-absorbing design, which is also the key feature that made it stand out from its competitors. Along with the cushioning effect of the rubber tire, the front dual dynamic shock absorption can handle most complex terrains really well. Meanwhile, to guarantee a comfortable riding experience, the A20’s saddle uses tube gravity damping support. 

The 3-stage foldable design is quite convenient, which leads to a pretty fast and easy experience of both folding and unfolding. And thanks to the compact folding size and the lightweight body, it’s also convenient to store in the car trunk and won’t occupy much space. And there is a useful handle for riders to easily carry the bike in hand, regardless of its folding form. 

In addition to this, the A20 ebike also does a good job in other areas. For example, there is a USB charging port at the head of the bike, and a smartphone holder is included with the bike, so you can charge your phone or other electronic devices during your ride.

As an ebike, the performance of the motor determines its basic riding experience. Most competitors in the same price range add a 250W motor, while the ADO A20 ebike comes with a 350W motor. So compared to most ebikes running under 30Km/h, the A20’s unlocked maximum speed of 35Km/h makes it faster. 

The A20 has the Shimano 7-speed transmission and the 3-gear adjustable power assist. During our speed test, the unlocked A20 can still go up to a speed of 31km/h. Through the screen on the left side of the handle, riders can clearly monitor the essential bicycle information, including real-time speed, battery, mileage, and fault alerts.

The battery of the ebike is removable, so you can take it out and charge it separately. And of course, you can also charge the battery without removing it. ADO has claimed that the A20 ebike uses a high-efficiency energy recycling system. The fully-charged A20 ebike can run for 50-60km in pure electric mode or 80-100km in assisted mode. 

For after-sale services, ADO guarantees a 10-year warranty for the metal frame, a 1-year warranty for the rest of the parts of the bike, and lifelong technical support as well.

And now let’s talk about the actual riding experience. Well, the model we experienced is the white edition. Although when we used it for urban riding it didn’t get dirty, we were still worried that it might easily get dirty on unpaved roads. So if you’re not in the habit of cleaning your bike, the black model would be better for you. 

Secondly, thanks to the multi-suspension system, the damping effect is excellent, and there is no problem passing some small steps. This is also the biggest surprise during the ride. Because many ebikes are only designed for urban uses and do not do well in terms of shock absorption. 

And the electric-assisted riding is pretty delightful. When the speed reached 5km/h under the first gear, the laborsaving assisted system would be activated automatically. The second and the third gears require the rider to manually twist the handle to activate the assisted power. And if you stop the bike, the assisted power will turn off immediately, which is pretty safe. 

To use electric-assisted power, it’s similar to the way we start a motorcycle. The rider needs to insert the key and twist it to activate the battery. The keyhole is under the frame, and cannot be pulled off during the electric riding. At first, I was worried if the key would fall off. But after a period of use, it proved that there was no reason for worry. It didn’t fall off even once during any of my rides on this bike. 

ADO A20 foldable eBike Review: Verdict

Overall, the ADO A20 Ebike is a great product. There are almost no complaints about it. The battery life is excellent as an electric-assisted bicycle; the electric power-assisted system worked well for commuting uses, and the compact body makes it a wonderful extension to a regular car. But if I had to pick a downside, it would be the lack of refinement. The welds on the white body look strange but they should be much better on the black model. And that’s it for its drawbacks.

The bike will debut in May for only $769, which is much cheaper than other ebikes with similar performance. And most of them don’t even have any shock absorption.

So the ADO A20 ebike is still highly recommended. It’s never been so easy to have a bicycle tour. Now the eBike is giving you this option.
