Google is apparently working on bringing a new feature that will allow users to create custom keyboard shortcuts on Chromebooks. This function will be offered via the ChromeOS itself, so here are all the details.

The feature was spotted by About Chromebook‘s Kevin Tofel. He spotted that the ChromeOS 111 beta has a keyboard shortcut editor, although, the feature doesn’t currently work. Furthermore, one can also get access to this feature by enabling flags with names like “enable-shortcut-customization-app” and “improved-keyboard-shortcuts.” The settings app will then show you a list of shortcuts that are available in different parts of the OS and applications. One can even find default keybindings for the users.

This is still just in an experimental build but allows users to add alternative shortcuts. The report further added that you can even set shortcuts, however, these keys are not working yet. These settings even lets you reset the shortcuts to default settings. It is still unclear when the Search engine giant will offer this feature on a stable build of the ChromeOS. But, it is currently believed to arrive sometime in the coming months.

In other words, we can also expect to see the feature arrive in the beta versions soon. WE can expect it to roll out to beta users in the next couple of weeks, since the feature appears to be mostly ready.
