A new patent has revealed that the device features a side mounted fingerprint scanner that is housed on a curved display.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-394957 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Screenshot-310.png?x10805" alt="Xiaomi" width="736" height="572" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Screenshot-310.png 736w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Screenshot-310-300x233.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Screenshot-310-696x541.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Screenshot-310-540x420.png 540w" sizes="(max-width: 736px) 100vw, 736px" /></p>
<p>According to a <a href="https://www.91mobiles.com/hub/xiaomi-curved-display-phone-side-mounted-fingerprint-sensor-patent/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>91Mobiles</em> </a>report, the Chinese tech giant filed this design with the United States Patent Application Publication. This patent was filed back on 3rd June 2021 and showcases a smartphone with an edge to edge curved display. In other words, the device might be a premium grade flagship model. One of its most notable features includes a side fingerprint scanner that is housed on the right side where the screen is curved.</p>
<p>The fingerprint sensor is housed underneath the curved display itself instead of a separate housing that is part of the frame. This design is similar to the smartphones like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/realme-x3-superzoom/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Realme X3 SuperZoom</a> and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-mi-10i/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Mi 10i</a>. While most curved smartphones sport an AMOLED panel, Xiaomi is aiming at introducing a curved IPS LCD display with a fingerprint scanner mounted on the side. Unfortunately, the patent sketches do not reveal any other design elements regarding this handset.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-394958 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Screenshot-308.png?x10805" alt="Xiaomi" width="743" height="734" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Screenshot-308.png 743w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Screenshot-308-300x296.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Screenshot-308-696x688.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Screenshot-308-425x420.png 425w" sizes="(max-width: 743px) 100vw, 743px" /></p>
<p>Furthermore, since the device is still just a patent, so it is unclear if the smartphone maker is actually working on such a product or simply covering all bases. Although, the inclusion of the curved IPS LCD display could mean a major shift for budget and mid range smartphones that do not offer an in display fingerprint sensor.</p>

<p>As per the <a href="https://weibo.com/ttarticle/p/show?id=2309404615026970591481#_loginLayer_1615876651851" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>article</em></a>, the Chinese tech giant had to consider various factors while making the decision to have the fingerprint sensor placed on the side. This includes aesthetics and the overall look of the device along with its unlocking speeds. The last gen <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/redmi-k30/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Redmi K30</a> series also featured a side mounted fingerprint scanner as well, although, that sensor required a small area to be cut out from the handset&#8217;s frame surface. But with the K40 lineup, the company housed the sensor on the button itself.</p>
<p>Furthermore, the fingerprint sensor on the K40 series is also thicker due to the button, which also enhances its structural strength and raises the height of the buttons as well. Similarly, due to its curved surface, the company&#8217;s team was also able to improve the materials and craftsmanship of the fingerprint button&#8217;s surface. This, in turn, improves its reception rate, which is also further optimized by recognition algorithm to ensure a quick and accurate unlock.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-377412 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/20210315_155128_680.jpeg?x10805" alt="Redmi" width="1400" height="787" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/20210315_155128_680.jpeg 1400w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/20210315_155128_680-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/20210315_155128_680-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/20210315_155128_680-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/20210315_155128_680-696x391.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/20210315_155128_680-1068x600.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/20210315_155128_680-747x420.jpeg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px" /></p>
<p>The Redmi K40 series was launched last month and is the company&#8217;s current flagship lineup. It features top notch specifications like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-870/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Qualcomm Snapdragon 870</a>/<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-888/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">888</a> processor, with its price starting from 1999 Yuan (roughly 307 US Dollars). The brand also offers functions to this fingerprint scanner, while it is also directly tied with the Alipay health code as well.</p>

The highlight feature of the phone is the bezel-less 5.5-inch display on board. However, the phone is known for yet another unique feature, its side mounted fingerprint sensor. Today, the company decided to demonstrate the performance of Future&#8217;s fingerprint sensor. The placement of the scanner is ideal for many, near the power button. So, it&#8217;s easy to reach out and unlock the device whenever you need. You can check out the video from down below.</p>
<p><iframe loading="lazy" title="Ulefone Future - Convenient Side-mounted fingerprint scanner" width="696" height="392" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/0sg_FZ1HndI?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>So, Ulefone admits that the fingerprint sensor on the Future isn&#8217;t the fastest one in the market, mainly because of the small surface area available. Since the available area is small, the sensor takes slightly more time to recognize the user&#8217;s fingerprint as compared to rivals. But the company adds that this is the latest generation sensor in the market, which means it is highly responsive.</p>

<p>Now that the flash sale is officially over, the Ulefone Future is available for <a href="http://ulefone.com/page-future-presale.html">pre-sale via a number of retailers for $239.99</a>. You get seven different accessories bundled with the phone at this price. You can check out more details of the pre-sale of the device from here.</p>
<p>To recap, the Ulefone Future comes with a 2GHz octa-core Helio P10 processor with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.
