The phone, which was in the news since May last year, was originally announced in September 2017.

The Sirin Labs’ Finney is now available for purchase at a price of $1,000, which is around $100 more than the pre-order pricing. After completing crowdsale, the company has partnered with Foxconn and has already signed Leo Messi as its brand ambassador.

Going forward, the company is now planning to join the Amazon Launchpad program in January 2019, which should allow the company to bring its smartphone into customers’ hands much easier.

The device comes with a 6-inch Full HD+ notched display with 2160 x 1080 pixels screen resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. According to the company, the phone’s display has an oleophobic coating on top. Under the hood, the phone is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 845 processor, coupled with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage.

Coming to the optics part, the phone features a single 12-megapixel camera sensor with f/1.8 aperture with focus on low-light imaging. On the front side, the phone features an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera sensor with f/2.2 aperture.

In terms of software, the smartphone runs on the company’s own SIRIN OS which is an ultra-secure and Google-certified fork of Android, based on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out-of-the-box. The company had earlier said that the secure open source operating system will also be licensed to interested OEMs. It is powered by a 3,280mAh battery.

The interesting offering of the phone is the cold storage cryptocurrency wallet, which isn’t connected to the internet in a measure to prevent hackers from gaining access to Bitcoins and to securely generate transactions. It also embeds a multi-layered cybersecurity suite comprising online and offline on-device cyber threat detection, protection from network attacks, host-based attacks, as well as unsecured device definitions.

Finney smartphone also comes with a unique concierge-like service called TCS (Token Conversion Service), allowing users to make crypto transactions for supported coins and tokens without the hassle of exchanges. At launch, TCS will support ETH (Etherium), BTC (Bitcoin), and SRN (Sirin Labs Tokens).

The Finney will have a 6” display with the trendy 18:9 aspect ratio. A promo video shows the phone will have a notch at the top. Sirin also says the display will have an oleophobic coating.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 will power the device along with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. It will have a single 12MP f/1.8 sensor on the rear with focus on low-light imaging. The front camera will be an 8MP f/2.2 85° wide-angle sensor.

The battery will be bigger than 3000mAh with fast charging support. It will also have an ultra-secure fingerprint sensor, high-quality speaker, and “side-fire audio design”. Other features include Bluetooth 5.0, NFC A and NFC B, dual-band Wi-Fi, and support for 22 LTE bands.

The Finney will have glass on the rear (Corning Gorilla Glass), a metal frame, and an IP52 rating. It will sell for as much as $999.

That is a bit high but apart from the already flagship specs, the phone will have high-level security features to keep your cryptocurrencies and tokens safe.

Unnamed sources say Huawei is in talks with Sirin to license the latter’s operating system, SIRIN OS, to run blockchain based applications along with Android. Both sides are still having discussions and nothing is set in stone since no agreement has been signed.

Representatives of both companies have confirmed that they have met but won’t disclose more than that. Meetings have been going over the past two months, and Sirin’s Telegram chat group posted a picture in February with a caption that confirms the meeting, as well as mentioning the “…possibility of working together bringing blockchain technology to masses in a secure way”.

Sirin is also working on a new series of phone called Finney, named after the pioneer of Bitcoin, Hal Finney. It will hold cryptocurrency coins and wallets, as well as blockchain-based apps.

Huawei is not the only Chinese manufacturer that is dabbling in blockchain. Xiaomi has its hand in the new trend but in a different way.

One of the more interesting “spin-offs” of blockhain is cryptopets. These are virtual pets similar to Tamagotchi but based on blockchain. Pets can be bought, groomed and traded. Each pet is unique and sales are recorded on the blockchain, though digital currency transactions are not supported.

The first cryptopet game was Cryptokitties which is based on Ethereum’s blockchain technology. Its success led other big Chinese giants to join the trend.

Xiaomi’s own is said to be called Cryptorabbit which is not surprising since a bunny is Xiaomi’s mascot. It is currently in beta-testing. Baidu also has Cryptodoggies and is also said to be in beta. There is no info as to when a stable version will be released to the general public.
