Skarper has launched its much-anticipated e-bike conversion kit that utilizes the bike’s rear disc brake. The innovatively designed conversion kit was first introduced in 2022 with production expected to commence in 2023. The product has now gone on sale.

Skarper’s e-bike conversion kit is unique among the long list of bicycle conversion kits available in the market. The Skarper e-bike kit taps into the bicycle’s disc brake system to power the converted e-bike. The kit includes a sleek 4kg clip-on mount that will seamlessly integrate the motor, battery, and electronics into the bicycle. The compact unit is attached to the bike’s chainstay and uses the disc brake to drive the rear wheel. It does not rely on complex modifications of the bike itself, unlike traditional conversion kits. It instead maintains the bike’s integrity and ensures a hassle-free conversion of your bicycle to an e-bike.

The Skarper e-bike kit utilizes a distinctive method of engaging the disc brake that does not interfere with the braking surface. It makes contact with a section of the disc closer to the hub and warrants the replacement of the bike’s disc rotor with the Skarper rotor. Skarper insists that this alteration does not significantly affect the bike’s performance when the kit is detached. It therefore allows the rider to revert to pedal power without any hassles.

The Skarper kit has a power output of 250W in line with European regulations and delivers a maximum assisted speed of 25km/h. The motor is activated by pedaling, as the kit omits a throttle. The kit can achieve a range of 50km on a single charge and the battery is fully recharged in 2.5 hours.

Pricing & Availability

The Skarper e-bike kit is priced at £1,295 ($1,650) but the initial lot has already sold out even with its high price tag. Skarper is already receiving pre-orders for an expected delivery shortly.
