Govee, a gaming peripheral company, announced a new line of lighting products inspired by Neon Genesis Evangelion. The Govee x Evangelion collection features three light options to enhance your gaming setup with the iconic mecha anime’s theme.

The Govee lights start at $89.99 and go up to $199.99

The centerpiece is the Govee x Evangelion Game Wall Lamp, replicating Unit-01’s purple and green color scheme with additional Evangelion details. For flexible positioning, the Govee x Evangelion Glide Y-shaped lamps offer five customizable light bars. Traditional LED light strips round out the collection.

Beyond aesthetics, the collection boasts eight special lighting effects inspired by Evangelion battles, further immersing you in the anime’s world. Prices range from US$89.99 (approx. 655 yuan) for the light strips to US$199.99 (approx. 1457 yuan) for the wall lamp. Pre-orders for the upcoming launch start July 24th.

Yeelight, the Xiaomi owned smart lighting based brand, has just announced two new products that arrive with the Razer Chroma Integration. Alongside the new products, the company has also announced the release of the source code of the Yeelight Chroma Connector as part of the Yeelight Open Source Program.

The company made this announcement at the Razer Devcon 2021 earlier today (7th May 2021). Yeelight has just unveiled two new smart lighting products, including the Yeelight Smart LED Bulb W3 and the Yeelight LED Screen Light Bar Pro. Talking about the bulb first, it offers the user the option to select among 16 million colors to create their custom lighting scenes for any occasion. The smart bulb also features game sync and music sync and is even eco friendly as well, offering an ultra low standby power to save energy and money.

Arriving at the smart light bar, the Yeelight Bar Pro is designed to offer customers a more immersive experience when gaming experience. Furthermore, the lamp also offers easy sync options that works with various popular games via Razer Chroma RGB, which also supports 16 million colors that even offers a “dazzling light effects triggered by specific gaming events.”

Notably, the company even opened up its source code to give back to its community, especially the Open Source one. As per Victoria Wang, Strategic Partnership Manager at Yeelight, “With the Yeelight Open Source Program, we hope to give back to the community. Meanwhile, we welcome all the programmers to contribute their code and add new features to this project. Eventually, we want to make the Yeelight Chroma Connector truly for gamers, by gamers!”

There is a new partnership in town as tech giant Xiaomi is reported to have signed a Joint Venture agreement with Philips lighting which would see both companies designing and  developing LED lighting products for Xiaomi’s Smart home ecosystem. In case you have forgotten, the Xiaomi Smart home products fall under the Mijia brand.

This new joint venture agreement encompasses the design and development of connected LED luminaries and lamps. It also covers the development of apps for controlling the lights via Android and iOS-based smartphones. The co-developed products would be sold through the regular retail channels that Xiaomi uses.

Xiaomi had before now been selling several smart LED lighting that were produced by Philips lighting for the tech start-up, one of which is the Eyecare Smart Lamp 2.  But this new partnership takes it a step further in that Xiaomi would be financially and technically involved in the products’ development and design. Philip lighting controls 70% of the Joint Venture  while Xiaomi holds 30% stake in it but the financial details were not disclosed.

The setup of the LED string is pretty straightforward. All you have to do is connect all the cables, power the LED string up and you are good to go.

Basically, the Singhong LED string is like any other smart LED solution but it is designed for outdoor use. It has IP-65 rating, meaning that it is waterproof, so you can just leave it outdoors.

Also, both the string and LED light bulb are controlled with your smartphone using a proprietary app and Bluetooth connectivity.

Within the app, you can change the colours, adjust the brightness or colour temperature, set the turn on/off schedules, set the timer and so on.

Also, you choose from a variety of different scenes, which look pretty cool. Finally, the light can flash along with the rhythm of the music.

SingHong Smart LED Lighting Review: CONCLUSIONS

The LED string costs almost $40 and the light bulb costs $14. Sure, there may some other smart lighting solutions in the market but since the ones made by SingHong have been working fine so far and here were no connectivity or other issues, these products can be recommended to buy.

It all starts with a nice looking presentation for a desk lamp. We can see that the Xiaomi put a lot of attention to detail with the Apple-like power plug and some nice extras like a cable management clip.

Xiaomi Smart LED Desk Lamp Review: DESIGN and FEATURES

The Xiaomi desk lamp looks gorgeous and it has a nice looking minimalistic design. The tubes are made out of aluminum and the base is made out of quality matt plastic, which does not attract any fingerprints.

You can adjust the arm of the lamp up/down and the latching mechanism works gracefully.

Speaking of the LED light itself, it has 6W of power and it can provide up to 300lm of brightness. It is not too bright but bright enough for reading and doing other stuff by the desk.

You can turn on the lamp by pressing the knob and adjust the brightness by rotating it. If you press down and rotate the knob, you will adjust the colour temperature. If you double click the knob, you will toggle the “pomodoro” timer.

What makes this LED desk lamp smart is the integrated wifi and the ability to control it via the Mi Home app, which is an application made by Xiaomi to control all kinds of smart devices like a smart Yeelight LED bulb, which is probably the best cheap Philips Hue light alternative.

The setup is pretty straightforward. All you have to do is select your location as China (Mainland), connect to your home wifi network within the app and select the LED lamp from the list of discovered devices.

Within the app, you can manually adjust the brightness and color temperature and select from the pre-set reading and PC modes. The “Pomodoro” mode is actually a pretty good idea. If you turn it on, the lamp will start flashing every 45 mins to remind you that you have to rest your eyes. Also, there are some other neat features like a sleep timer, kids mode and so on.

Xiaomi Smart LED Desk Lamp Review: CONCLUSIONS

I’ve used the lamp for quite a while now and everything has been working fine so far.

I really love the design and fantastic build quality of it and the fact that it can be controlled via the Wifi network.

However, a few complaints would be that you cannot swivel of the arm of the lamp to the sides like some other lamps do. Also, it would have been great if Xiaomi managed to hide that red cable.

On the other hand, these are just minor complaints. At the current price of just above $50, this desk LED lamp may not be the one and only device of its kind but it is definitely worth checking out if you are in the market of awesome-looking smart desk LED lamps.
