But at IFA 2018 this year, Nubia is looking to take things to the next level. The Chinese company has just revealed a teaser of its new concept product called as the Nubia <b>α. </b></p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-2.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-209121" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-2.png?x44794" alt="nubia α (2)" width="1280" height="724" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-2.png 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-2-300x170.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-2-768x434.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-2-1024x579.png 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>On first glance, you could mistake the Nubia α as a smart band. I did it too, but taking a closer look at the product as well as the teaser video, you&#8217;d start to realise that it&#8217;s much more than that. The α is essentially a smartphone! Yes, despite its wearable like appearance, the Nubia α is equipped with all the key features of a smartphone and most of them were revealed in the teaser video itself.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-8.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-209127" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-8.png?x44794" alt="nubia α (8)" width="1280" height="724" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-8.png 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-8-300x170.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-8-768x434.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-8-1024x579.png 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></a></p>
<p>The basic design of the device is like a smart band, featuring a metal strap that holds its flexible display in place. The Nubia α is meant to be worn on your wrist, bringing all the important features of a smartphone inside a super compact body. In appearance, the body is a bit bulkier than your regular smart bands, and that&#8217;s acceptable given that it likely houses many of the components of your everyday smartphone. There are two buttons on board, one on the right and another one on the left side, placed symmetrically. You&#8217;ll find a camera on top, which looks large when compared to its compact body. We can see a microphone opening as well, just besides the camera, which means it should support calls right from the device itself, without the need for any supporting accessories.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The main highlight of the α is going to be its touchscreen flexible display. We don&#8217;t have any specs yet, but the overall design looks quite pleasing in the video.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-1.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-209128" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-1.png?x44794" alt="nubia α (1)" width="1280" height="724" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-1.png 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-1-300x170.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-1-768x434.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-1-1024x579.png 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></a></p>
<p>The teaser video reveals quite a lot of important features too, like music playback, pedometer, sleep tracking, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, find my phone app, some kind of payments platform and even heart rate sensing. We can also see contacts and call menu which confirms that the Nubia α can make and receive calls.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-3.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-209122" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-3.png?x44794" alt="nubia α (3)" width="1280" height="724" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-3.png 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-3-300x170.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-3-768x434.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nubia-α-3-1024x579.png 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></a></p>
<p>The UI is English and even the teaser video has English subtitles. This should be a good hint that the Nubia α could get a global release. Right now, all the company has revealed is that it will showcase this concept smartphone at IFA. Hopefully, we&#8217;ll get more details very soon. Stay tuned!</p>

Although the company is known for its value for money smartphones, Xiaomi also has a wide range of non-smartphone products, with a special focus in the smart home industry. It already has lots of products in this segment, from <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2016/03/28/xiaomi-mi-router-3-four-antenna-design-announced-149-yuan-23/">routers</a>, thermostats, <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2016/05/26/xiaomi-unveils-new-mi-smart-led-desk-lamp-26/">lamps</a>, to even smart bicycles. In fact, after launching the pricey $3000 Qicycle<a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2016/03/22/xiaomi-launches-qicycle-r1-smart-bicycle-priced-3000/"> R1 bicycle</a> a few months back, yesterday, Xiaomi unveiled a brand new <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2016/06/23/xiaomi-electric-bicycle-announced/">electric bicycle which costs around $455</a>.</p>
<p>The company&#8217;s product profile has expanded so much that almost every 15 days we see a new announcement. While we have no idea how Xiaomi keeps up with so many of these product launches, today, Xiaomi has teased yet another smart home product. The company didn&#8217;t reveal what kind of product to expect, but it confirmed that it will announce the product on June 28, which is next Tuesday.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-86984" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/mi-teaser-product.jpg?x44794" alt="mi teaser product" width="690" height="1227" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/mi-teaser-product.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/mi-teaser-product-169x300.jpg 169w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/mi-teaser-product-576x1024.jpg 576w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /></p>
<p>Along with the teaser image, the company had to say the following words: &#8220;When can silence, silence..When can shine, shine&#8221; (translated). Looks like a riddle! Well, putting this teaser image and the riddle together, could it be another smart lamp?</p>
<p>Xiaomi&#8217;s mi ecosystem product planning director Sun Peng added that this is a very interesting product, with the cooperation of international manufacturer.</p>
<p>It looks like a lamp, but it could also be just a part of a larger device. We can&#8217;t be sure of anything right now, so let&#8217;s wait for more teasers to see if we can guess the right product.</p>

The release date is said to be around September this year, which is just a couple of months away. Earlier, we heard from a <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2016/04/28/xiaomi-official-confirms-mi-smartwatch-launch-second-half-2016/">Xiaomi&#8217;s executive about the upcoming smartwatch</a> but now, it looks like the company is preparing its website for the release of the Mi smartwatch as the official website seems to have already listed smartwatch category in the smart devices section. While this doesn&#8217;t reveal anything about the upcoming watch, it kind of confirms again that there&#8217;s a smartwatch in the making.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-86864" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/mi-smartwatch-on-official-website.jpg?x44794" alt="mi smartwatch on official website" width="600" height="470" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/mi-smartwatch-on-official-website.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/mi-smartwatch-on-official-website-300x235.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>We had previously heard from the CEO of Huami, which is the company that manufactures the Mi Band wearable that <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2016/04/05/xiaomi-smartwatch-almost-confirmed-coming-q2-2016/">Xiaomi Mi smartwatch will meet us in the second half of the year</a>. Given that Huami is directly involved with the production of the wearable, it was a kind of our first confirmation.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-86587" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/mi-smartwatch-sketch-e1466523022219.jpg?x44794" alt="mi smartwatch sketch" width="599" height="754" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/mi-smartwatch-sketch-e1466523022219.jpg 599w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/mi-smartwatch-sketch-e1466523022219-238x300.jpg 238w" sizes="(max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px" /></p>
<p>Thanks to a recent leak, we already have the basic render of the device. The Mi smartwatch is said to come with a standard round watch design with the Mi logo on top. We can also see two physical buttons on the right side. Also, the smartwatch looks quite thick as well. But what really took our attention was the black bar at the bottom of the display. It seems like Xiaomi&#8217;s new smartwatch could have an ugly black bar on the display, just like the first generation Moto 360, which would be really disappointing. But this is just a render, so we will have to wait for some pictures of the new Mi watch in action to really confirm this design.READ MORE:</p>

<div>Elephone are soon to be joining the many other Chinese companies that have jumped on the smart watch bandwagon, many of the watches from other companies have concentrated on providing heart rate and sedentary monitoring capabilities as well as bluetooth call notification and the ability to use the watch as a Mic/speaker.</div>
<div>Whilst these watches have generally been fairly cheap, they have also been sadly lacking Google&#8217;s Android Wear platform, this has left them with only basic apps and no real chance of being more than they are.</div>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6558.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="alignnone wp-image-60235 size-full" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6558.jpg?x44794" alt="IMG_6558" width="1280" height="853" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6558.jpg 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6558-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6558-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6558-630x420.jpg 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6558-640x427.jpg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6558-681x454.jpg 681w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></a></p>
<p>With the ELE Watch, the first Android Wear smartwatch from Elephone, they are jumping in to the ring with the big boys such as Motorolla, Lg and samsung and to some extent Apple. <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6552.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="alignnone wp-image-60234 size-full" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6552.jpg?x44794" alt="IMG_6552" width="1280" height="853" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6552.jpg 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6552-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6552-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6552-630x420.jpg 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6552-640x427.jpg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6552-681x454.jpg 681w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></a></p>
<p>Style wise the ELE watch looks fairly attractive and has a 1.5&#8243; 320 x 320 multi touch screen (The Motorola has a 1.56&#8242; 320 x 290 multitouch screen ), unlike the round watches seen from Motorola, the Ele Watch has a full face screen (not flat tyre for this phone), the case looks to be made of stainless steel as does the strap. <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6548.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="alignnone wp-image-60233 size-full" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6548.jpg?x44794" alt="IMG_6548" width="1280" height="853" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6548.jpg 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6548-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6548-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6548-630x420.jpg 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6548-640x427.jpg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6548-681x454.jpg 681w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></a></p>
<div>On board the phone you will find 512m of ram and 4gb of ram this is the same as found on the Motorola, which should prove to be more than adequate for a smartwatch.</div>
<div></div>
<div>The phone has also been tested and rated at IP67 dust and water resistant and has built in GPS.</div>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6530.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="alignnone wp-image-60232 size-full" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6530.jpg?x44794" alt="IMG_6530" width="1280" height="853" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6530.jpg 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6530-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6530-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6530-630x420.jpg 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6530-640x427.jpg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6530-681x454.jpg 681w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></a></p>
<div></div>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6508.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="alignnone wp-image-60231 size-full" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6508.jpg?x44794" alt="IMG_6508" width="1280" height="828" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6508.jpg 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6508-300x194.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6508-1024x662.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6508-649x420.jpg 649w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6508-341x220.jpg 341w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6508-640x414.jpg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_6508-681x441.jpg 681w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<div>Hopefully when launched, this will be the catalyst that sees other China phone/watch companies embrace Android Wear and drive prices down and quality/features up.</div>
<div></div>
<div>What do you think? are you ready for some Android Wear love? or will you be holding out for an Apple Watch?</div>
