Duoqin has just launched its latest Qin 3 series of smartphones. The latest Qin models are the successor the the Qin 2 series, with the entire family of devices being built to combat smartphone addiction.

For those unaware, Duoqin is a Xiaomi ecologibal brand, which means it is backed by the Chinese tech giant. The company launched this lineup of phones to tackle the growing issue of smartphone addiction in China, with the latest Qin 3 series also featuring anti addiction systems as well. The Qin 3 lineup consists of the base Qin 3, the Qin 3 Pro, and the top end model Qin 3 Ultra. Now, the company has began pre-orders for the Duoqin Qin 3 series in China. The Qin 3 comes in a 4GB + 64GB configuration, Qin 3 Pro has a 6GB + 128GB variant, while the Qin 3 Ultra is offered with the largest 8GB + 256GB variant.

The Qin 3 starts from 999 Yuan (roughly 145 US Dollars), while the Qin 3 Pro and Qin 3 Ultra have a price tag of 1,399 Yuan (roughly 202 US Dollars) and 1,599 Yuan (roughly 232 US Dollars) respectively. As per official note, the devices sport a 5.5 inch display (although the Ultra model sports a smaller 5.05 inch screen) and also feature the third generation anti addiction system for parents to help set a healthy boundary with technology for their children. Unfortunately, finer details regarding these devices are still at large, but we can expect more information to surface soon.

A new study has revealed the countries with the worst smartphone addiction problems, and China, Malaysia, and Saudi Arabia have ranked top three.

Researchers at McGill University in Canada studied smartphone usage among nearly 34,000 people in 24 countries around the world between 2014 and 2020, and published their findings in the journal Computers in Human Behavior (via Daily Mail).

Surprisingly, US ranked 18, while Germany and France were the lowest in the list.

The Smartphone Addiction Scale is widely used to measure smartphone addiction. It includes aspects related to impact on daily life, uncontrolled use of mobile phones, and withdrawal from smartphone addiction.

The subjects were between 15 and 35 years old, with an average age of 28.8 years, and the majority of the subjects were women (60%).

Researchers also calculated each country’s problematic smartphone use, ranging from 10 to 60. China ranked highest, with a score of 36 out of 60.

The possible reasons behind different scores in different countries were speculated to be social norms and cultural expectations related to motivation to stay connected via smartphones. Countries like Germany and France are “individualistic and culturally loose,” making them less likely to promote such norms.

All in all, it was found that problematic smartphone use is growing globally and can result in “psychological consequences.”

“We conducted a meta-analysis of problematic smartphone use, focusing on young adults,” the research team said in the paper, “Problematic smartphone use increased across the world between 2014 and 2020, and we expect this trend to continue.”

Amid the Coronavirus pandemic, the average users have apparently become more fixated towards their smartphone. A new study from Vivo and Cyber Media Research has revealed that the increased usage of smartphones have led to impacts on users’ mental and physical health, with many worrying about smartphone addiction.

The study titled “Smartphones and their impact on human relationships 2020’ arrives as the second edition of the report this year. It takes a look at the impacts of the pandemic and even highlights the growing dependency of users’ to their smartphones this year, as per an IndianExpress report. According to Nipun Marya, Director Brand Strategy at Vivo India, “Excess usage of smartphones, we believe is somewhere harming relationships. And, therefore, it fundamentally goes against our brand values. Excessive usage is leading to addiction, which is then harming relationships.”

With various governments enforcing a lockdown after the viral outbreak, work from home and staying indoors became the new norm, which has affected people from across the globe. Studies have found that there has been a major jump in smartphones usage in terms of hour per day. Marya added that “There is nearly a 39 per cent increase in smartphone usage from 2019. Last year, the duration in hours was at 4.5 hours, and this has increased to nearly 7 hours now.”

The study found an increase in “office work by 75 percent, calling by 63 percent, OTT by 59 per cent, video consumption by 56 per cent, social media usage by 55 per cent and gaming around 45 per cent,” all due to the lockdown. Although, the time spent on smartphones have increased, users are more worried about its impacts on physical and mental health, especially in the cases of addiction. More than 89 percent of the people that got surveyed noted that excessive use of smartphones is having a negative impact in their lives.

The Substitute phone, just like the name implies, is meant to serve as a substitute to the actual smartphone. For those who are really very much addicted to their smartphones, trying to stop the usage could trigger withdrawal symptoms. That is where the Substitute phone comes in, as it helps such persons cope with being away from their smartphone.

The SUbstitute phone is made up of a series of five phones, which use stone beads designed in the pattern of the different motions used for smart devices, such as scrolling, zooming, and swiping. The aim is for users to utilize the gadget as a coping mechanism to tackle the urge of always checking the smart. The device doesn’t look too attractive. The body of the “phone” is made of black polyoxymethylene plastic. Perhaps, that was done on purpose.

The product doesn’t look too attractive and could get boring! But we’ll have to wait until it is officially launched before drawing a conclusion about that.
