The phone is registered as the HTC 2Q72XXX and has model number 2Q7200000. It also has Bluetooth 4.2. Apart from the above, the Bluetooth SIG listing page reveals that the phone has an MSM8940 processor a.k.a. Snapdragon 435.

The Snapdragon 435 processor is a fairly old chipset that was announced back in early February of 2016. Qualcomm unveiled the chipset alongside the Snapdragon 425 and Snapdragon 625. The latter still powers a number of phones released this year.

The Snapdragon 435 is a 28nm octa-core chipset clocked at 1.4GHz. It also has an Adreno 505 just like the new 12nm Snapdragon 439 processor. The Snapdragon 435 wasn’t designed to support the new 18:9 aspect ratio, so this HTC 2Q72XXX may have a traditional 16:9 aspect ratio with bezels at the top and bottom.

We have already covered the launch in detail and you can read more about the phone from here. But here, let’s talk about the Redmi Note 5A variants. There are two major variants announced, a 2GB + 16GB model and a 3GB + 32GB model. The third variant just adds an extra RAM and storage — 4GB + 64GB to the 3GB RAM version.

So, what are the differences between Redmi Note 5A’s Low vs High version? As a matter of fact, quite a lot! In fact, given the differences, you can even consider them to be totally different models rather than just variants. It’s like the Redmi 4A vs Redmi 4, but instead of treating the two as different models, here Xiaomi has differentiated them as variants.

Redmi Note 5A Low version vs High version: Key Differences

To make things simple, I have made a table highlighting the differences between these two variants. The models have slight differences in thickness, weight, cameras, displays, memory and even design (due to the fingerprint sensor at the back of the high version). The processors are also different with a quad-core SD425 powering the low version vs a faster octa-core SD435 inside the high-version.

Check out all the differences down below.

For a $30 difference, you get a lot more value from the 3GB RAM model of the Redmi Note 5A. What do you think?

For photography, the beautiful device packs a 12MP main camera at its rear with LED flash and PDAF which has its focusing speed increased to 0.3s.The camera also has a large individual pixel size of 1.25um and more photosensitive area. The Enjoy 7 Plus equally crams a large 4,000mAh battery under its hood which is sure going to provide up to a day’s use. Huawei touts that the battery can play high-definition video up to 20 hours and will sustain 4G internet browsing for up to 15 hours. The large battery also has reverse charging function. Surprisingly, the device has a thin build despite the large battery crammed inside.

The launch of the Redmi 4X should not come as a surprise to those familiar with Xiaomi. It was already obvious the Redmi 4 will get the X-treatment after the Redmi Note 4X was announced.

With the addition of this new phone, we now have a total of four Redmi 4 devices: the Redmi 4A, Redmi 4, Redmi 4X, and Redmi 4 Prime. You can call them the Fantastic Four if you wish.

All four phones are well made and are priced at less than $200. However, even though they share the same name, they differ in lots of ways. So if you are having a hard time deciding which is right for you, you should read this to the end.

Redmi 4A

Redmi 4X black

Redmi 4

Redmi 4 prime

Display: Same but Different

All the phones in the Redmi 4 line come with a 5-inch display making them perfect for one hand use. The difference lies is in their resolution. While the Redmi 4A, Redmi 4, and Redmi 4X have 720p displays, the Redmi 4 Prime has a 1080p screen. That translates into different PPIs too, 294 as against 441.

If you want your display sharp and crisp, you should look to the Redmi 4 Prime but if you don’t care much for that, the Redmi 4, 4A or 4X is fine.

Processors: Different Dragons

Xiaomi has settled for Qualcomm chips only. The Redmi 4A sports the Snapdragon 425; the Redmi 4 gets the Snapdragon 430, the Redmi 4X has the newer Snapdragon 435, and the Redmi 4 Prime uses the popular Snapdragon 625. The Redmi 4 Prime is basically the Redmi Note 4X with a smaller screen. Nothing more, nothing less. So I won’t compare its chip to the rest.

The Snapdragon 425 has a quad-core CPU clocked at 1.4GHz and an Adreno 308 GPU. The Snapdragon 430 and 435 on the other hand are octa-core chips clocked at 1.4GHz and have a more powerful Adreno 505 GPU. The advantage the Snapdragon 435 has over the Snapdragon 430 is in LTE speeds. The SD435 has Cat.7 LTE as against the SD430’s Cat. 4 LTE. That means you will get faster download speeds on the Redmi 4X.

RAM and ROM

The Xiaomi Redmi 4A and Redmi 4 ships with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. The Redmi 4X is available in two variants: a 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM and a 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM. The Redmi 4 Prime is only available with 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage. All four devices support microSD cards of up to 128GB. If you want a larger RAM, the Redmi 4X or Redmi 4 Prime is your best option.

READ MORE: Xiaomi’s MIUI 8.2 Comes with new Ringtones: Download Here!

Cameras

The Redmi 4 line are all equipped with 13MP rear cameras and 5MP front cameras for selfies. The only difference is in the Redmi 4X which has a f/2.0 aperture for its rear camera whereas the others are f/2.2.

Battery

The Redmi 4, 4X, and 4 Prime ship with a 4100mAh battery but the Redmi 4A takes a dip down to 3120mAh. Since they are all 5-inch devices, battery life should be pretty stellar plus they all feature power efficient chips. However there might will be variations in on-screen time. The ones with the higher screen resolution may likely record less screen time than the 720p displays.

Fingerprint Scanner

Fingerprint scanners have now become a regular feature in mid-range phones. We have even seen them in some sub $100 devices but sadly, the Redmi 4A misses out on this feature. All the other 3 have fingerprint scanners at the back.

Price

Redmi 4A – ¥599 (~$87)

Redmi 4 – ¥699 (~$102)

Redmi 4X- 2GB RAM+ 16GB ROM = ¥699 (~$102); 3GB RAM + 32GB = ¥899 (~$131)

Redmi 4 Prime – ¥899 (~$131)

NB: Prices are MSRPs and not what you will get them from re-sellers.

Conclusion

Redmi 4A – cheapest of the lot but at the expense of a smaller battery and lack of a fingerprint scanner.

Redmi 4 – the fingerprint scanner and larger battery gives it an edge over the Redmi 4A. Battery life will be great too but probably won’t last as long the Redmi 4X.

Redmi 4X – has a more powerful processor in terms of LTE speeds than the Redmi 4A and Redmi 4 and also has a fingerprint scanner. The screen resolution might be the deal breaker for some. It is also the only other one with a 3GB variant.

Redmi 4 Prime – Best of everything. Compact body, higher resolution display, power efficient CPU, more powerful GPU, and larger RAM and storage. Basically the smaller version of the Redmi Note 4X in size alone.

If you do not care about the resolution, you are better off buying the 2GB RAM variant of the Redmi 4X or the Redmi 4. The Redmi 4 Prime is the one you should buy if you want to tick all the boxes. The Redmi 4A on the other hand is what you should get if you are looking for a second phone to complement that flagship in your pocket or if you want to get a gift for an older relative.

Don’t be surprised, the Blade V8 Pro was announced before it and is even already on sale.

I’m going to be honest with you, the Blade V8 is the least attractive in the V8 line. I’m not saying it is ugly but it is not as good looking as the others. It doesn’t have the shiny silver/gold bands the V8 Lite has on its back; and since it sports an all-metal back-plate, it lacks that mesh-like design on the V8 Pro.

The Blade V8 might not be the most attractive one but it shares some similarities with its siblings. Take for example the camera housing. It is the same as that of the V8 Mini; and like the V8 Pro, also has its fingerprint scanner which also doubles as a home button sitting up front.

Where the Blade V8 is different from its siblings is in the design of its speakers. The speakers are positioned on the bottom and have circular cut outs (12 in total). The fact that there are two grilles doesn’t mean it has stereo speakers, that design is just to maintain symmetry. Sitting in between them both is a microUSB port. At the top is an audio jack and a noise cancelling microphone.

The front of the phone is covered in glass. The bezels are a bit large but that is expected for a phone in this price range. The top bezel is where the front facing camera, speaker, sensor and a front flash lies. At the bottom is the fingerprint scanner and navigational buttons that are sadly not backlit. The right hand side is has the power button and volume rocker and the left has the sim tray.

The Blade V8 sports a 5.2-inch 2.5D Full HD display and is powered by the more recent Snapdragon 435, unlike other mid-rangers in its class such as the Nokia 6, Nokia 5, and Moto G5 which all use the Snapdragon 430. There is 2GB/3GB of RAM, 16GB/32GB of storage and a 2730mAh battery.

The Blade V8’s selling point is its dual cameras just like the Blade V8 Pro and V8 Mini. The rear cameras are a combination of a 13MP and a 2MP sensor. Where it also shines is in the 13MP front facing camera that has a dedicated flash.

ZTE still hasn’t put a price on it but it should be below $200 which is a great price for a phone that comes with Android Nougat out of the box and sports dual cameras. If you are planning to get this device when it launches, I’ll advice you pick up the dark grey variant. It looks much better than the champagne gold variant.

Although priced lower than the Axon and Nubia series, the Blade phones sport the same high level of build quality found on the more expensive lines. The company has a new phone in the works and it is expected to be unveiled at the Consumer Electronic show which is starting next week.

The new phone called the ZTE Blade V8 is expected to be the line’s first dual-camera midranger, competing with the likes of Xiaomi’s Redmi Pro and LeEco’s Cool1 Dual.

The ZTE Blade V8 pictured above will have a 5.2” 1080p display just like you have on the Blade V7, a 1.4GHz Snapdragon 435 processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The dual rear cameras will be a combination of a 12MP sensor and a 2MP shooter. Sources say both sensors will work together to allow you take pictures with bokeh effects and even shoot stereoscopic 3D pictures that can be viewed with a VR glasses. The dual sensors of the Blade V8 will also allow you take quick pictures of fast moving objects without the need for focusing.
