<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Qualcomm </a>has officially unveiled the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chipset today at its Snapdragon For India event. Designed for budget-friendly smartphones, the chip prioritizes affordability over top-tier performance.</p>

<p>The Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 shares the same 4nm manufacturing process and core configuration as its standard sibling, but Qualcomm has dialed back the performance of its high-performance cores to 2GHz. This places it between the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 and 4 Gen 2 in terms of performance.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2.jpg?x10805" alt="Qualcomm Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 launched, Xiaomi to bring the first phone" class="wp-image-641907" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>However, the compromises extend beyond the processing power. The 4s Gen 2 supports slower LPDDR4X RAM instead of the faster LPDDR5X found in the 4 Gen 2. Additionally, display quality takes a hit with a maximum refresh rate support of 90Hz compared to the 4 Gen 2&#8217;s 120Hz.</p>

<p>Camera capabilities are also scaled back. The dual ISP can no longer handle 108MP image sensors, forcing manufacturers to opt for more modest 50MP or 64MP options.</p>

<p>The focus on affordability extends to the chip&#8217;s 5G capabilities. While it has 5G connectivity, download speeds are capped at 1Gbps compared to the 2.5Gbps of the 4 Gen 2.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Connectivity options are similarly limited, adhering to the older Wi-Fi 5 (ac) and Bluetooth 5.1 standards – a common theme for the budget-oriented 4-series chips.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="861" height="1024" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-Specifications-Leak-861x1024.jpg?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-641906" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-Specifications-Leak-861x1024.jpg 861w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-Specifications-Leak-252x300.jpg 252w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-Specifications-Leak-768x913.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-Specifications-Leak-696x827.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-Specifications-Leak-353x420.jpg 353w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-Specifications-Leak.jpg 900w" sizes="(max-width: 861px) 100vw, 861px" /></figure></div>

<p>However, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 isn’t entirely barebones. It retains the Qualcomm Audio and Voice Communication suite, enabling high-fidelity music streaming at 96kHz. Camera features like multi-frame noise reduction and electronic image stabilization (EIS) are also present, along with dual-frequency reception for improved GPS accuracy.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/xiaomi/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Xiaomi</a> is confirmed to be the first manufacturer to bring the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 in the Indian market, likely integrating it into their Redmi line.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The company&#8217;s president of the India branch, Muralikrishnan B, shared his excitement about the chip’s potential to democratize 5G access, &#8220;We are excited to be working with Qualcomm Technologies to enable access to gigabit-fast connectivity for users. Many people have yet to experience the benefits of 5G, and thanks to Snapdragon 4s Gen 2, Xiaomi can bring 5G connectivity to a broader audience to help reshape the way the world connects and interacts.”</p>

<p>However, the specific Xiaomi smartphone that will debut with the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 remains unconfirmed.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Qualcomm</a>&#8216;s &#8220;4&#8221; series processors typically cater to the budget-conscious smartphone market. Last year, the company introduced the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, which improved on its predecessor with a 4nm manufacturing process and support for faster RAM and storage. Now a new leak suggests the chipmaker might be adding another variant – the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2.</p>

<p>Leaked by<em><a href="https://x.com/evleaks/status/1817762511891972601" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Evan Blass on X </a></em>(formerly Twitter), the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 appears to slot in between the existing Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 and 4 Gen 2 in terms of performance. It retains the 4nm process and an octa-core CPU configuration, but with a slight downgrade in clock speed (up to 2.0GHz) compared to the 4 Gen 2&#8217;s 2.2GHz.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="861" height="1024" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-Specifications-Leak-861x1024.jpg?x10805" alt="Qualcomm Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 specs leak " class="wp-image-641906" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-Specifications-Leak-861x1024.jpg 861w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-Specifications-Leak-252x300.jpg 252w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-Specifications-Leak-768x913.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-Specifications-Leak-696x827.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-Specifications-Leak-353x420.jpg 353w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-Specifications-Leak.jpg 900w" sizes="(max-width: 861px) 100vw, 861px" /></figure></div>

<p>But the biggest trade-off seems to be in display support. While the 4 Gen 2 boasted a smooth 120Hz FHD+ experience, the 4s Gen 2 scales back to a more standard 90Hz FHD+.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Another area of cost-saving is in RAM compatibility. Unlike its siblings, the 4s Gen 2 opts for the more established LPDDR4x RAM, with speeds up to 2133MHz, instead of the more advanced LPDDR5x. While this might not significantly impact everyday tasks, it could affect multitasking and app loading times.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="504" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-Specifications.jpg?x10805" alt="Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 " class="wp-image-641905" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-Specifications.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-Specifications-300x168.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-Specifications-768x430.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-Specifications-696x390.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Snapdragon-4s-Gen-2-Specifications-750x420.jpg 750w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>Surprisingly, the 4s Gen 2 even lacks support for 108MP cameras. Even the base Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 offers this, while the 4s Gen 2 seemingly prioritizes lower megapixel sensors that will limit image quality on phones powered by this chip.</p>

<p>Looking at the bigger picture, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 positions itself as a budget-friendly option for manufacturers looking to create affordable 5G smartphones.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, the downgrades in display refresh rates, RAM compatibility, and camera capabilities suggest users might face some compromises in performance and user experience. It&#8217;s still uncertain which phone brands will adopt the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2.</p>
