They are two mid-rangers released by sister companies as both are owned by BBK Electronics. And they are also very similar devices. But even though they come with a similar price and they look similar in terms of aesthetics, it seems that there is a huge difference between them in terms of performance. A known YouTube channel has uploaded a video of a speed test which proved that OPPO F7 performs way better than Vivo V9.

OPPO F7 boots faster than its opponent, it can open apps and games faster and it can even be unlocked faster with the fingerprint reader. Both the phones have also been tested on benchmarks with AnTuTu apps and OPPO won on benchmarks as well. While the F7 scored 107647 on AnTuTu, Vivo V9 obtained a result of just 72874 points. According to the video, OPPO F7 can even reproduce better colors through its display, and it has a higher screen brightness. The F7 comes with an octa-core MediaTek Helio P60, 4 or 6 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of internal storage depending on the configuration you choose. It has a wide 6.23-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2220 pixels.

Vivo V9 boasts of an octa-core Snapdragon 626 chipset by Qualcomm, 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of internal storage, while its display has a size of 6.3 inches and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels. Both the device feature an iPhone X-like notch. Oppo F7 has also been compared with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro on benchmarks and it was even able to compete with this handset which has a more powerful Snapdragon 636 SoC. You can check the comparison with Redmi Note 5 Pro here. MediaTek finally seems to have done a good job with its Helio P60, but there are other midrange SoCs to beat: Snapdragon 636 and 660.

It is currently present under the hood of phones like OPPO R15 and OPPO F7. The upcoming Meizu 15 Lite may also feature the same SoC. A report from last week had claimed that the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 6X may feature the Snapdragon 626. However, fresh information reveals that it could be powered by Helio P60 SoC.

According to the TENAA listing of the Xiaomi Mi 6X, it is driven by an octa-core processor that clocks 2.2 GHz. Even though earlier reports had claimed that the Mi 6X would be featuring the new Snapdragon 636 SoC, a recent report had claimed that it may feature the older Snapdragon 626 chipset under its hood. New rumors claim that the Mi 6X has Helio P60 onboard. However, there is no concrete evidence that supports this claim. A recent report had revealed that the SD636 powered Redmi Note 5 Pro and Helio P60 driven OPPO F7 deliver similar performance on benchmarks.

Yesterday, XDA Developers Editor-in-Chief Mishaal Rahman had revealed some key information on the cameras of the upcoming Mi 6X. He claims that the handset may feature Sony IMX486 + IMX36 dual camera system and Sony IMX376 front-facing camera.

Also, it has 12-megapixel Sony IMX486 has the main sensor in its dual camera setup. Hence, the Mi 6X may feature the 20-megapixel Sony IMX376 as its frontal snapper and its dual camera module may comprise of a 12-megapixel Sony IMX486 sensor and a 20-megapixel Sony IMX376 sensor.

It may come in models like 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage. It may house a 2,910mAh battery and may come loaded with the Android 8.1 Oreo overlaid with the latest MIUI skin.

On Monday, it announced the Vivo X21 flagship and today it has unveiled the slightly less powerful Vivo V9.

The Vivo V9 shares a number of features with the more expensive X21 in terms of design. It has a notched display though a tiny bit bigger. It also has dual rear cameras arranged vertically. However, it skips the glass back for metal.

Vivo V9 Specs

The Vivo V9 has a 6.3” FHD+ display but it is not OLED like the X21. There is a notch at the top that houses a 24MP selfie camera, the earpiece and sensors.

Vivo knows you are tired of the Snapdragon 625 processor so it swaps it for a……….Snapdragon 626. The difference is the SD626 has a higher clock speed (2.2GHz) and comes with TruSignal® Antenna Boost.

There is 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage which is expandable via a MicroSD card slot. A 3260mAh battery powers it and can be recharged via a Micro-USB port.

The highlight of the Vivo V9 is its 24MP f/2.0 selfie camera. Bundled with AI Face Beauty that can guess your age, sex, skin tone, and lighting condition when you want to take a selfie. A combination of AI algorithms and features like Natural Light, Studio Light, and Monochrome background helps you take better pictures.

Vivo has also added face unlock, though it calls it AI Face Access for unlocking the phone if you don’t want to use the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. A 16MP + 5MP dual combo sits on the rear of the device.

The Vivo V9 runs Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.

Vivo V9 Price and Availability

The Vivo V9 doesn’t have a price tag yet. It will be available in the Philippines today, India tomorrow, and should make it to other countries where the V-series is sold, such as Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Vietnam. It will come in Gold and Black.

While there weren’t so many changes, one of those we took note of was the slightly thinner body. That singular design change meant that the Moto Z2 Play may feature a smaller battery.

Turns out our prediction was true. The Moto Z2 Play will indeed feature a smaller battery. This was confirmed by VentureBeat, citing a marketing material as their source. Rather than the 3510mAh battery that graced the first-gen Moto Z Play, the Moto Z2 Play will come with a 3000mAh battery. That’s a 14% reduction in battery capacity.

The reduction in battery capacity results in the Moto Z2 Play having its thickness and weight cut down by a millimeter and 20g respectively. The processor is said to be the Snapdragon 626 which is an upgraded version of the SD625 but with a higher clock speed. The RAM has also been bumped up to 4GB and storage is now 64GB.

READ MORE: The Moto C Draws Closer to Launch As It Gets Bluetooth SIG Certification

The rear camera has also been replaced. It is now a 12MP sensor with a f/1.7 aperture and dual autofocus pixels instead of the 16MP f/2.0 module on the original Z Play. The front facing camera remains a 5MP shooter and the screen, a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display.

Why Lenovo decided to reduce the thickness of the phone at the expense of battery life is best known to them but we can’t remember anyone complaining about the Z Play’s thickness.

The event should see them announce a new phone called the Smartisan Nut Pro.

The Smartisan Nut Pro is rumored to be the Smartisan OD105 we saw on AnTuTu a week ago. Powered by the Snapdragon 626 and running Android 7.1.1, the Nut Pro should also launch with 18W fast charging. Although we saw a leaked image of the rear of the phone, the overall design of the phone is still unknown.

Weibo user @Xiang carp posted renders of the device and for the sake of designers who work hard day and night, we hope the phone never looks like this. The render can best be described as a refined block of wood.

The thickness of the device looks to be almost 1.5cm. It also sports a tri-bezel-less display only that instead of retaining the bottom bezel, it keeps the top one. There is a front facing camera and a cut-out for the earpiece but no sign of any other sensor. There is also what appears to be a power button at the top. The phone also doesn’t appear to have volume buttons or a SIM slot on any of the sides.

READ MORE: Two Smartisan Phones Certified on TENAA, Launching Soon

On the back of the device, sits a dual-camera setup, a LED flash and Smartisan’s logo. No fingerprint scanner or speaker grille. The base of the phone however holds the charging port, though we can’t tell what type it is since there is a cord plugged into the port.

The devices were identified as OD103 and OD105 on TENAA. Also, Smartisan recently announced that they would be holding a launch event on May 9, 2017, in China. The device expected to launch has been identified as the Smartisan Nut Pro.

The Smartisan Nut Pro is said to pack a Snapdragon 626 processor backed by 4GB of RAM. The device may likely have two storage versions of 32GB and 64GB respectively. The Nut Pro possesses all the features of a decen mid-ranger including a 13MP rear camera as well as 4MP selfie shooter. There is also the Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS providing the interface.

While the specifications are not new, what’s new is that Smartisan may likely include some level of optimization on the device. The latest teaser poster shared by the company gives this impression. The poster talked about mobile phone chips coming in faster than 310% over the years but the phones don’t perform faster than 13%. While the poster is just meant as a countdown to the launch event, it could also contain some clue that Smartisan is planning to surprise us with some features other than those offered by the decent Snapdragon 626 chipset.

A week ago, we saw leaked images of the Moto Z2 Force. Quick on its heels is a press render of the Moto Z2 Play obtained by TechnoBuffalo.

On first look, the design doesn’t look to be different from that of the Moto Z Play released last year. The camera hump is still there and you have the Moto batwing logo and moto mod connector gracing the rest of the back plate. The front looks almost the same too. The position of the front flash, earpiece, light sensor and front camera are exactly as they were on the Moto Z Play. So what then is different?

First, the fingerprint scanner has been changed to a pill-shaped one. Then they swapped the shape of the front LED flash with that of the light sensor. The Moto Z2 Play also appears to be thinner in this press render, however that will be confirmed when the dimensions become known.

The visible changes on the rear include the new antenna line that runs along the entire border; the redesign of the moto mod connector pins; and the new sensor for the camera.

READ MORE: Moto E4 Spotted on GeekBench, Revealing Some of Its Specs

The Moto Z Play was released as a mid-range device with a Snapdragon 625 SoC and a 3510mAh battery. The combination of the power efficient SD625 and large battery gave the Moto Z Play an impressive battery life. Motorola will want to stick to that strategy, so the Moto Z2 Play may launch with the Snapdragon 626. The battery might be a bit smaller if the phone ends up being thinner but we expect it not to be significantly smaller. Display size and resolution may remain the same and older moto mods will definitely work with it.

There is no date of release yet but we want to think the date on the clock is a hint. So you might want to mark June 8 on your calendars.

Released back in May last year, the phablet is set to get a successor soon. Some even say as soon as Wednesday, 19th of April alongside the Mi 6.

Leaked specification details say the Mi Max 2 will retain the same 6.44-inches display size and FHD resolution. It will run Android 7.1.1, have a 5MP camera for selfies and get its battery bumped to 5000mAh. At the moment, the processor is said to be the Snapdragon 626, a power-efficient chip like the Snapdragon 625. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if we see another processor in the Mi Max 2. The Mi Max was released in two versions: one was powered by a Snapdragon 650 chip and the other by a Snapdragon 652. The same thing might happen this year too.

A new image was posted on Weibo by @Ubuntu team. The image is said to be of the Mi Max 2 and shows the device in a TPU case. There are a few minor changes in the design. The LED flash comes before the rear camera now and the entire back is just one large piece of metal. Since the rear is just q single plate, that means the antenna lines are visible now. Xiaomi has adopted the U-shaped antenna design like that of the iPhone 7 and it does look good.

The rest of the image shows the top and bottom of the Mi Max 2. There is a 3.5mm audio jack, a secondary mic, and an IR blaster at the top. The major change at the bottom is the USB Type-C port that replaces the micro USB port in the original. You also have fewer holes for the speaker grille and two additional screws flanking the USB port.

Already, we are expecting the Snapdragon 835-powered Mi 6 to be launched any moment from now. Another smartphone that will likely hit the market within the first half of the year is the second-generation Xiaomi Mi Max 2.

Xiaomi Mi Max

The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is expected this year as a replacement for the Mi Max which was released last year and is even off the shelf on Xiaomi Mall presently. Latest details about the Mi Max 2 has emerged and there are indications that the next-gen Xiaomi smartphone will not use the yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 660 chipset, as rumoured and purportedly spotted on benchmark, but will feature a Snapdragon 626 processor instead. The Snapdragon 626 chip is said to be the successor to the Snapdragon 625 and comes with an increase of about 10% in performance over the SD 625. The new SD 626 also has support for dual cameras while also retaining the qualities of the SD 625 in terms of power and battery life advantages.

Xiaomi Mi Max

In addition, the Mi Max 2’s camera is said to be another area of major upgrade. It is tipped to come with the same setup as used on the Mi 5S, which is a 12MP Sony IMX378 sensor but with a larger aperture in order to get better camera effect. On the other hand, the front selfie shooter will have a 5MP sensor. Earlier on, the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 was rumoured to come with the same 6.44-inch display with 1080p resolution. The device is tipped to run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with MIUI 8 and with an increase in the battery capacity to 5000mAh. An earlier rumour also tips the Mi Max 2 as packing a Snapdragon 660 chip backed by 6GB of RAM and 4GB RAM on the standard version.

As for the price, the source of the latest leaked details hints that the Mi Max 2 price may be adjusted slightly but will still fall between 1499 Yuan and 1699 Yuan. Of course, nothing is certain until Xiaomi goes official with the next-gen phablet.

With the settlement, Meizu fans who had before now been agitating for the return to the use of Qualcomm chips on their beloved brand were expecting that to happen soon.

However, well-known industry analyst Pan Jiutang has come out to disclose that the expected Meizu smartphone will not have a flagship series chip onboard. The Snapdragon 800 series is Qualcomm’s flagship series and the SD 835 is the latest in the pack. The analyst hinted that the upcoming Meizu smartphone will instead use a Snapdragon 600-series chip which was revealed to be a Snapdragon 626 in the product schedule.

Meizu has not left us in doubt that they would indeed release a Snapdragon powered Meizu phone but that won’t be anytime soon. A leaked Meizu product schedule pitches the Snapdragon-powered Meizu phone as coming in the fourth quarter of this year. Meizu VP Li Nan also added his voice in saying that a Meizu smartphone powered by a Snapdragon chip would be launched towards the end of this year, likely in December. So, if you’re looking forward to a Meizu flagship rocking a Snapdragon flagship SoC, you may have to wait till next year for that.

The conflict had meant Qualcomm chips were consistently missing on Meizu smartphones for a long while now and fans of the brand yearn for a time when they would have a Qualcomm-powered Meizu smartphone.

Since the settlement with Qualcomm, there have been no official words from Meizu as to when a Snapdragon-powered Meizu phone would debut but a leaked Meizu 2017 product schedule had earlier revealed a Snapdragon 626-powered Meizu smartphone coming in December. A recent rumor had also disclosed that the Qualcomm-fired Meizu smartphone would meet with us in Q3 2017.

Read Also: Meizu’s Qualcomm-Powered Smartphone Scheduled for Q3 2017, More Snapdragon Phones on The Way

Meizu VP, Li Nan sort of confirmed that a Qualcomm-powered Meizu phone would launch towards the end of this year in response to a question on Weibo. The Meizu VP today hosted a Question & Answer session where he responded to questions by a fan as to when a Meizu phone with a high-end chip would launch. The VP disclosed that it takes an average of 8 months for Research and Development (R&D) for a new smartphone to get concluded and then production, certification, and other factors could see the time stretch from 8 to 12 months before the phone is launched. So, a Qualcomm-powered Meizu phone may hit the market at the end of this year. This puts paid to speculation of the expected Meizu Pro 7 sporting a Qualcomm chip but at least there is a ray of hope that we’ll finally have a Meizu phone, probably a high-end model, rocking a Qualcomm chip this year.

Specification details of the Moto G5 surfaced a few days ago alongside some images and a possible pricing. Today another image of the upcoming phone has leaked online.

The image is said to be a press shot of the Moto G5. Lenovo/Moto is going for a Moto Z kind of look which is evident from the camera design. Though the glass is all metal and not black which is nice as the Moto Z is a fingerprint magnet.

Another notable difference is the fingerprint scanner. The Moto G5 plus ditches the square scanner for one that is pill-shaped. It also appears that the SIM tray has also been moved to the top as a groove with a hole can be seen on the top left part of the phone. The Moto G5 plus still has the rounded corners but the rear doesn’t curve to meet the metal frame anymore.

One thing we are actually quite disappointed about is the Snapdragon 625 processor that is said to be present in the phone. It is not a bad processor but considering the fact that the Snapdragon 653 and 626 have already been announced since last year, we expected the Moto G5 to sport either of the newer chips. The Moto G4 Plus from last year was no different as it launched with the Snapdragon 617 processor released back in 2015.

The Moto G5 Plus will retain the 5.5-inch 1080p display from last year. The RAM will be 4GB and ROM will be 32GB, though there is a possibility of other RAM and ROM variants. The battery has been slightly bumped up to 3080mAh, and there is Android 7.0 out of the box. The Moto G5 Plus is said to be about $387, but with that price tag you are better off buying the OnePlus 3.

Qualcomm today announced that it has signed a patent license agreement with Meizu which grants Meizu the worldwide license to develop, manufacture and sell smartphones with CDMA2000, WCDMA, 4G LTE (including “triple mode”GSM / TD-SCDMA / LTE-TDD) terminals.

Qualcomm recently signed the same agreement days back with fellow Chinese company Gionee and earlier in August, the company put pen to paper with Vivo under similar terms. Under this term, Meizu will pay royalties to Qualcomm for use of these bands on their smartphones.

The new agreement, according to Qualcomm’s statement, addresses all patent disputes between Qualcomm and Meizu in China, Germany, France and the United States. It would be recalled that Qualcomm had dragged Meizu to court in Europe and the US over patent infringement, but both parties have agreed to take appropriate steps to terminate or withdraw the patent infringement action and related patent invalidity or other related litigation.

Coincidentally, a leaked product lineup plan for Meizu in 2017 had included a Meizu M device said to get a December 2017 launch date and coming with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 chip onboard. Turns out the leaked document was indeed correct. In addition, Meizu has confirmed it would use Qualcomm processor at the end of 2017 but the company failed to mention the name or details of the smartphone that would pack the Qualcomm SoC. The year 2017 is sure looking to be a year of great surprises and expectations on the smartphone industry.

Unfortunately to the disappointment of not a few persons, Meizu has failed to pack Qualcomm’s chip on its latest gadgets.

A recent Qualcomm press release had stated among other things that China’s top ten phone brands have all got Qualcomm’s patent license. If you talk about the top ten brands in China, Meizu is definite among them.

More revealing is the recent leaked product schedule said to be Meizu’s lineup for 2017. The product schedule outlines the different Meizu smartphones that are likely to be released in 2017 and the month they would drop. According to the poster, Meizu should release the M5S in February using a MT6753, the Meizu Pro 7 uses a Helio X30 chip launching in June. In addition, the Meizu S using an Helio P25 chip is expected in July, while the MX7 with an Helio P30 chip will drop in September. October would see the Meizu Note 6 powered by an Helio P20 SoC.

One notable information outlined on the leaked calendar is the processor the devices would carry on launch date. That would not have gotten us excited if not for the Qualcomm chipset which is listed against a device whose name is obscured on the sheet, perhaps a Meizu M derivative. However, we could see what looks like a Snapdragon 626 chipset listed as featuring on the device.

Well, don’t get too excited because even if the product schedule turns out to be true, you won’t be seeing the Snapdragon-powered Meizu flagship anytime soon. The device is listed for release in December 2017, one year from now.
