The rumor mill revealed the existence of the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max for the first time. On Saturday, 91mobiles released a leak in collaboration with reliable tipster Ishan Agarwal. It once again revealed the RAM, storage, and color variants of the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max.

The leak claimed that the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max will be arriving in two options such as 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage. It further mentioned the handset will be available in three colors as Blue, Black, and Bronze. As the name goes, the Pro Max model will be positioned higher than the Note 10 Pro.

The RAM and storage information of the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max shared by the publication matches with last week’s report, which mentioned that the Snapdragon 768G would power it. The SoC was used by Xiaomi to power the Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition smartphone last year in China. This model is also expected to arrive with other features like a 120Hz IPS screen, a 108-megapixel quad-camera system, and a 5,050mAh battery. The presence of SD768G suggests that it will carry support for 5G connectivity.

Today, the company has announced a successor, the Snapdragon 678 SoC. It focuses on improving photography, connectivity whilst not giving up on battery life.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 is an Octa-Core CPU built on the 11nm LLP process. As per the official press release, the SoC brings a minute performance upgrade over the predecessor. Accordingly, it has a Kryo 460 CPU clocked at 2.2GHz compared to 2.0GHz on the Snapdragon 675. However, the GPU on the 678 is the same Adreno 612 but Qualcomm says it has increased the performance.

For the unware, Kryo is a series of semi-custom ARM cores that Qualcomm uses on its Snapdragon SoCs. Here, the Kryo 460 refers to Cortex A76 and Cortex A55 cores. Out of this, 2xA76 high-performance cores are clocked up to 2.2GHz as mentioned by Qualcomm.

Snapdragon 678 Specifications

For specs, the SoC supports display up to FHD+ with a max resolution of 2520×1080 pixels and 10-bit color depth. For cameras, it has a 14-bit Qualcomm Spectra 250L ISP. This supports a single camera up to 192MP and a single/double camera with MFNR up to 25/16MP respectively. Here, MFNR refers to Multiple Frame Noise reduction.

Qualcomm says the 3rd gen Qualcomm® AI engine supports camera features like portrait mode, low-light, laser auto-focus, 4K video at 30fps, 5x Optical zoom, slow-mo(up to 1080p at 120fps), and more. It also supports HEVC(High-Efficiency Video Coding) and has Accelerated EIS support.

As mentioned above, the Adreno 612 GPU is the same as the predecessor. However, Qualcomm says this SoC is optimized for Unity, Messiah, NeoX, and Unreal Engine 4, among other top games, and more.

EDITOR’S PICK: Apple kicks off its own cellular modem development; trouble for Qualcomm?

Connectivity and other features

Similarly, the SD678 has the same X12 LTE modem. As the name suggests it doesn’t support 5G. However, it supports peak download, upload speeds of 600,150 Mbps respectively. There is Dual-SIM VoLTE and 3x20MHz downlink carrier aggregation support as well.

As for connectivity, we have Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS, GPS, QZSS, SBAS for navigation. For ports, you get USB-C with USB-3.1 support.

Other features include 8GB DDR4 RAM at 1866MHz, video playback up to 4K with HEVC, AVC codec support, Qualcomm® aptX, aptX HD audio, audio playback up to 4W, Quick Charge 4+ technology, and more.

Earlier today, the manufacturer released a poster that teased Xiaomi’s Mi 8 Lite for its choice of processor. The poster was actually shared first on Weibo by Lenovo’s CEO before it was reposted by the official Weibo account with a caption that teases the Mi 8 Lite for having a Snapdragon 600 series processor.

If Lenovo is teasing the Mi 8 Lite for having a Snapdragon 600 series SoC, that means it isn’t using a 600 series chipset in the Z5s which the Snapdragon 678, assuming it even exists, falls under.

We re-examined the poster that originally said the phone will have a Snapdragon 678 processor and what we deduce is that Lenovo is teasing the phone will come with a processor that belongs to the 600, 700, or 800 series, hence 678.

There are rumors the chipset in the phone is actually the Snapdragon 710 like the Lenovo Z5 Pro but there is no confirmation yet. Other confirmed features of the phone are triple rear cameras and Android Pie pre-installed.

Lenovo also released a few more posters and camera samples of the phone which is scheduled to launch on December 18 at the Lenovo Global Headquarters in Beijing.
