<p>The 4nm-based SoC has been the talk of the town for quite some time, with people debating the amount of performance increase that can be expected from the new chip. Today, we have the answer for you.</p>

<p><span data-preserver-spaces="true">Motorola officially announced various benchmark scores of the Latest Moto Edge X30 at <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/12/09/moto-edge-x30-unveiled-as-the-worlds-first-snapdragon-8-gen1-powered-phone/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">the launch event</a>. <p>Compared to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-888/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Snapdragon 888</a>, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 gains about 21% overall performance. This sizable performance gain can be credited to a couple of factors: the SD 8 Gen 1 being the first SoC built on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Samsung</a>&#8216;s 4nm process while adopting the ARM v9 architecture. The CPU on board is a &#8220;1+3+8&#8221; architecture octa-core unit, with Cortex-X2 clocking in at 3Ghz, three Cortex-A710 cores running at 2.5Ghz, and 4 Cortex-A510 efficiency cores with a frequency of 1.8Ghz.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class=" wp-image-429985 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Moto-Edge-X30-GFXBench.png?x10805" alt="Moto Edge X30 GFXBench" width="651" height="353" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Moto-Edge-X30-GFXBench.png 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Moto-Edge-X30-GFXBench-300x163.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 651px) 100vw, 651px" /></p>
<p>On the GPU side of things, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/motorola/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Motorola</a> has claimed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 can reach 267fps in GFX Manhattan 3.0, which is about 60% higher than the 169fps of Snapdragon 888. This is possible due to the new Adreno 730 GPU, which is about 30% more powerful while being 25% more energy efficient than the previous generation (<a href="https://news.mydrivers.com/1/801/801705.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">via</a>).</p>
<p>After its official Chinese launch, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/moto-edge-x30/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Motorola Edge X30</a> is expected to hit the global market under the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra moniker, so stay tuned as we will be covering any notable news regarding the new handset.</p>

It was officially unveiled by Qualcomm days back and new performance details about the chipset have now appeared. The new benchmarks reflect how the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 compares with its predecessor, the Snapdragon 888, and Apple’s A15 Bionic.</p>

<p>During the Qualcomm event where the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 was unveiled, it was showcased inside a reference platform device. The Geekbench 5 scores shared by PC Mag indicate the performance of the chip across several important metrics. Geekbench provides a cross-platform CPU performance benchmark with three results. There are slight variations between runs of each of the tests but these variations are not significant to affect the reliability of the results.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/qualcomm.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-429786" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/qualcomm.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="1280" height="720" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/qualcomm.jpg 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/qualcomm-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/qualcomm-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/qualcomm-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/qualcomm-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/qualcomm-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/qualcomm-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></a></p>
<p>The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 scored 1,234 and 3,837, respectively for the Geekbench single-core and multi-core tests. Both Geekbench 5 scores for the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 were higher than those obtained for the Snapdragon 888 but still fall short of those of Apple’s A15 Bionic which powers the iPhone 13 series. From the scores, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset is still lower, performance-wise than Apple’s A14 Bionic, while it is almost at par with the Apple A13 Bionic which powers the iPhone 11 series.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/snapdragon-8-gen-benchmark.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-429781" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/snapdragon-8-gen-benchmark.png?x10805" alt="" width="862" height="402" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/snapdragon-8-gen-benchmark.png 862w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/snapdragon-8-gen-benchmark-300x140.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/snapdragon-8-gen-benchmark-768x358.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/snapdragon-8-gen-benchmark-696x325.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 862px) 100vw, 862px" /></a></p>
<p>Qualcomm had predicted a 20% performance improvement of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 over the Snapdragon 888, but this is not reflected in the new Geekbench 5 scores. Qualcomm will have to up its game to catch up with Apple whose chips are at least two generations ahead of the latest Qualcomm SoC. The scores are not fully definitive yet, since the device tested is not a commercial smartphone but a reference device. There could be some improvements in the current Geekbench 5 scores when an actual product powered by the chip is put through the Geekbench tests.</p>
<p>There are however improvements in GPU performance which is a great boon for gamers, as shown in the GFXBench 5 Aztec Ruins offscreen test, where the device outperformed the Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max.</p>

The American chipmaker has even revealed that this silicon will be officially announced on November 30. Ahead of that, the chipset gets benchmarked on AnTuTu with over a million points.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has become the first </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Qualcomm/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Qualcomm</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> mobile SoC to cross 1 million points (10,35,020 points) on AnTuTu Benchmark. This information comes from a screenshot </span><a href="https://weibo.com/3628411355/L2Y1RnDLJ"><span style="font-weight: 400">shared</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> by a Weibo profile called 科技晚8点. Unfortunately, the picture does not show the breakdown of the score in different categories. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">It is worth noting that even the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/11/19/mediatek-dimensity-9000-announced/"><span style="font-weight: 400">newly unveiled MediaTek Dimensity 9000</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> SoC </span><a href="https://weibo.com/2662447161/L29urhMa1"><span style="font-weight: 400">scores</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> over a million points (10,07,396 points) on AnTuTu Benchmark. However, it’s not as high as that of the yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon silicon. For comparison, last-gen Qualcomm and </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/MediaTek/"><span style="font-weight: 400">MediaTek</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> chipsets can score around 850K (Snapdragon 888) and 690K (Dimensity 1200) respectively.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Though there’s still a performance difference between the two, they are better than their predecessors in terms of scores. Anyway, at the end of the day, benchmarks only tell half the story. The real-world performance depends on the smartphone’s hardware and software optimizations.</span></p>
