It was officially unveiled by Qualcomm days back and new performance details about the chipset have now appeared. The new benchmarks reflect how the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 compares with its predecessor, the Snapdragon 888, and Apple’s A15 Bionic.</p>

<p>During the Qualcomm event where the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 was unveiled, it was showcased inside a reference platform device. The Geekbench 5 scores shared by PC Mag indicate the performance of the chip across several important metrics. Geekbench provides a cross-platform CPU performance benchmark with three results. There are slight variations between runs of each of the tests but these variations are not significant to affect the reliability of the results.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/qualcomm.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-429786" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/qualcomm.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="1280" height="720" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/qualcomm.jpg 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/qualcomm-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/qualcomm-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/qualcomm-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/qualcomm-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/qualcomm-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/qualcomm-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></a></p>
<p>The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 scored 1,234 and 3,837, respectively for the Geekbench single-core and multi-core tests. Both Geekbench 5 scores for the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 were higher than those obtained for the Snapdragon 888 but still fall short of those of Apple’s A15 Bionic which powers the iPhone 13 series. From the scores, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset is still lower, performance-wise than Apple’s A14 Bionic, while it is almost at par with the Apple A13 Bionic which powers the iPhone 11 series.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/snapdragon-8-gen-benchmark.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-429781" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/snapdragon-8-gen-benchmark.png?x10805" alt="" width="862" height="402" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/snapdragon-8-gen-benchmark.png 862w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/snapdragon-8-gen-benchmark-300x140.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/snapdragon-8-gen-benchmark-768x358.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/snapdragon-8-gen-benchmark-696x325.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 862px) 100vw, 862px" /></a></p>
<p>Qualcomm had predicted a 20% performance improvement of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 over the Snapdragon 888, but this is not reflected in the new Geekbench 5 scores. Qualcomm will have to up its game to catch up with Apple whose chips are at least two generations ahead of the latest Qualcomm SoC. The scores are not fully definitive yet, since the device tested is not a commercial smartphone but a reference device. There could be some improvements in the current Geekbench 5 scores when an actual product powered by the chip is put through the Geekbench tests.</p>
<p>There are however improvements in GPU performance which is a great boon for gamers, as shown in the GFXBench 5 Aztec Ruins offscreen test, where the device outperformed the Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max.</p>

<p>Ahead of the event, VideoCardZ claims to have obtained the PPT slides of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 flagship processor. The purported slides show the highlights of the features and specifications of the flagship processor. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is seen to be manufactured using a 4nm process. This brings about a 20% increase in the CPU performance while the power consumption is reduced by 30%.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/snapdragon-8-gen-1-3.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-428261" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/snapdragon-8-gen-1-3.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="820" height="454" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/snapdragon-8-gen-1-3.jpg 820w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/snapdragon-8-gen-1-3-300x166.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/snapdragon-8-gen-1-3-768x425.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/snapdragon-8-gen-1-3-696x385.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/snapdragon-8-gen-1-3-759x420.jpg 759w" sizes="(max-width: 820px) 100vw, 820px" /></a></p>
<p>The chipset is also equipped with the 4th generation Adreno GPU of which the GPU performance is increased by 30%. Also, the new GPU brings about a reduction in the power consumption by 25% while the Vulkan performance is increased by 60%.</p>
<p>The slides also show the Snapdragon processor is equipped with the seventh-generation Qualcomm AI engine and the third-generation Qualcomm Sensing Hub. It is also equipped with Snapdragon sight bringing an improvement in the image output. It also brings support 5G Modem-RF, WiFi 6/6E.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/snapdragon-8-gen-1-4.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-428262" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/snapdragon-8-gen-1-4.jpg?x10805" alt="Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1" width="820" height="491" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/snapdragon-8-gen-1-4.jpg 820w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/snapdragon-8-gen-1-4-300x180.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/snapdragon-8-gen-1-4-768x460.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/snapdragon-8-gen-1-4-696x417.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/snapdragon-8-gen-1-4-701x420.jpg 701w" sizes="(max-width: 820px) 100vw, 820px" /></a></p>
<p>In addition, the PPT slides show that Qualcomm will cooperate with Razer to launch a developer kit for handheld gaming devices equipped with the Snapdragon G3x chip. The device provides a 120Hz HDR OLED display and is equipped with a 6000mAh large battery.</p>
