Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor has been put through a number of fresh tests. These new tests are also a comparison with other chips such as Apple’ A10, and the Snapdragon 820, 808, 805 and 800 chipsets.

First we see how the Snapdragon 835 compares against the other processors on GeekBench 4. Qualcomm’s new processor scores 2048 points in the single-core test and 6484 points in the multi-core test. Comparing it to the others, we see the SD835 ranks highest in the multi-core test. Only Apple’s A10 chip comes close with 5610 points.

However, the roles are reversed when it comes to the single-core test results. The SD835 does surpass its other Snapdragon comrades but it lags behind the Apple A10 which records a total of 3458 points.

The next benchmark test is PCMark Work 2.0. PCMark is a test that combines performance and battery efficiency of a device as a complete unit instead of as separate components. The test is broken down into Web Browsing 2.0 which measures the performance when rendering a page; Video Editing measures the performance when playing, editing, and saving a video; Writing 2.0 and Photo Editing 2.0 measures the time taken to open, edit and save a document and image respectively; and last is Data Manipulation which measures the time it takes to parse data from a variety of different file formats. The test will also help see how the Snapdragon 835 will fare when it starts showing up in Windows 10 devices later this year as the PCMark test for Windows is a bit similar to that of Android.

The result shows the Snapdragon 835 test device taking the lead with 8042 points. Next is the Snapdragon 820 toting Xperia X Performance with 5578, the Nexus 5X (Snapdragon 808) with 3346, the Galaxy Note Edge (Snapdragon 805) nets 3392 points, and the Xperia Z1 (Snapdragon 800) scored the lowest with 3101. There is no PCMark for Apple devices, so the A10 doesn’t feature.

The other tests include 3DMark Ice Storm (Slingshot) Unlimited and GFXBench v4 tests where the Snapdragon 835 comes out on top again.

We also see the Snapdragon 835 test device get benchmarked on AnTuTu. The device crosses the 180,000 mark with 181228 points ahead of the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7 which scored 172644 and 170124 points respectively.

As the launch of the OPPO N3 approaches, OPPO CEO Chen Mingyong posted a photo this afternoon taken using the N3, causing debates and arguments among netizens over its quality.

The OPPO N3 will have a 5.5-inch 1080p display screen, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB RAM, and a 16mp rotating camera. It also uses the VOOC charger technology and the so-called “ice nest” cooling system.

A few days ago, it was revealed that the pre-order price for the OPPO N3 is 4298 RMB (702.52 USD).

OPPO has already confirmed that they will launch their new flagship phone, the OPPO N3, on October 29. This phone will continue to sport the OPPO N1’s rotating camera and be made of 7075 aluminum which is harder than 6061 aluminum.

Three renderings of the OPPO N3 were recently leaked online showing the phone in three colors. The purple and blue ones do not look good, however.  According to reports, the OPPO N3 will have a 5.9-inch 1080p screen, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB RAM, a 20.4mp rotating camera (206 degrees), and VOOC charger.

Most cellphone bodies right now are made of 6061 aluminum. This phone is said to have a 1080p screen, the Snapdragon 805 chip, 3GB RAM, a 13mp rotating camera (206 degrees), and VOOC charger.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is Samsung’s flagship phone of the year and went on sale on September for over 5000 RMB (813.39 USD). But just what is it made of? What secrets lie behind the design of this phone? Find out in this tear down.

Unlike its predecessors, the Note 4’ sports a metal chassis and can emit antenna signals through a hole in the phone. The chassis has been combined with the middle case.

The speakers and 3.5mm earphone jack are located at the top of the middle chassis.

Inside the phone are the L shaped motherboard and base motherboard. Both boards are connected using a circuit board and IPEX connector.

At the bottom are the micro-USB port, dual-microphone receiver, and antenna port. Of course, this is also where the fingerprint-recognition-supported Home button is located.

Samsung has said that the Note 4 sports the newest fingerprint scanner available.

The top includes the vibrator and receiver. The location of the processor in the magnalium-aluminium chassis is also covered by thermal barrier coating.

Most of the Note 4’s chips are on the L-shaped motherboard. All of them neatly and firmly held. Overall, it has a pretty nice design.

Here is a close-up of the Note 4’s 16mp rear-facing and front facing cameras. The latter comes with a light sensor and infrared sensor.

The Note 4’s 16mp camera is the first camera to use Sony’s IMX240 camera sensor and contains a built-in OIS.

Samsung is one of the few manufacturers that still use ISP. In the case of the Note 4, it uses the Winband Q32F. 

The Chinese release supports dual-micro SD, but the SIM and SD slots are not located in the motherboard but in blocks.

The Samsung Note 4 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 processor and its corresponding SOC, marking it the Snapdragon 805’s Chinese debut. In the photo is Qualcomm’s new WCD9330 sound chip.

The SIMG 8620 MHL chip is a more advanced version of the S5’s SIMG 8420. It can support 2K video resolution.

The Qualcomm MDM9225M baseband does not have support for CDMA networks.

OPPO first introduced VOOC when they released the OPPO Find 7. You can make two-hour phone calls after only 5 minutes of charging the phone. After 30 minutes, it is 75% charged. There is no doubt that the VOOC will be very useful for the N3.

According to OPPO, its inclusion of a rapid charger will causes the phone’s size to shrink. The USB wire can also be taken off.

The very-anticipated Xiaomi Mi 4 has been making waves in the news recently.

As a result of the Mi 4’s metal design and increasing capital costs, the price of the phone may go up to 2499 RMB (402.44 USD). If the news is true, then the Mi 4 will not support more features and will probably attract fewer customers. 

Fingerprint recognition

According to a message in Weibo, the Mi 4 will have a fingerprint recognition technology allowing people to access different kinds of features with their fingerprints.

Even though this has not been verified by a more official source, it could be true. After all, based on the hardware specs that were recently revealed about the Mi 4, it should be filled with a lot of kinds of exciting features.

In addition to a 5-inch touch screen, the Xiaomi Mi 4 will have 3GB RAM and 16GB internal memory space as well as a 13mp camera with f1.8 aperture. It will also be supported by Sony camera technology for great photo resolution. One edition of the Mi 4 will use the Snapdragon 805 while another will use NVIDIA’s Tegra K1 (non-Denver edition). It will also support LTE 4G internet.

This afternoon, Nubia will hold a launch event for the products it will release during the summer of 2014, where they will formally release its newest flagship phone, the Z7.

As previous reports have stated, a high-end version and low-end version of the Nubia Z7, whose model number is NX505J, will be released. The high-end version will use the Snapdragon 805 processor (to be sold in China first), and sports a 2K display screen, 3GB RAM and a 16mp camera. As for the low-end version, it will use the 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801, and sports a 1080p display screen, 2GB RAM, and a 13mp camera. Both versions support dual-SIM and 4G internet.

As we reported before, a new device with the model number 507J was featured at the website of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. It sports a 5-inch 1080p display screen, runs on a 2GHz quad-core processor, has 2GB RAM and 16GB internal memory storage, and is GSM/TD-SCDMA/WCDMA/TD-LTE-suppported.

Unless things don’t go as we had expected, both the NX505J and 507J should come out this afternoon. What are they really? We can only wait and see.

On the afternoon of July 4, someone in Weibo posted a photo of a mysterious device with Xiaomi’s logo on it. Based on comparisons with another photo that was leaked a while back, there is a big possibility that this device is the upcoming Mi 4. From the photo, we can see that the edges of the phone are fuller than the Mi 3’s. At the same time, it shows a very narrow bezel case, which solves the biggest problem that most people have with the Mi 3.

This photo could have been leaked from the factory it was made in based on the photographer wearing a glove in the photo and the environment surrounding it. This adds more credibility to the fact that this may be Xiaomi’s new phone.

The Mi 4 is predicted to come out this month or the next. What do you think it will look like?

From comparing the phone in the photo with the Mi 3, the Mi 4 should use a 5.2-inch (approximately) display screen. For now, a screen with this small should only have a resolution of 1080p.

        On July 8, ZTE will hold a launch event for its new phone, the Nubia Z7. In the meantime, a lot has been reported about it. How does it look like? What specs does it have? Hopefully, we can satisfy anyone’s curiosity by giving a brief summary of the facts (and rumors) about the Z7 before its launch.

Regarding its design, it has been reported that the Z7 is 9mm thick and weighs about 200g. It also sports a 5.5-inch QHD display screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 which is the strongest so far. Only Vivo has been able to make a phone with such high display specs so far. There has not been any confirmation on what processor the Nubia Z7 will use but some reports say that it may either use the Snapdragon 805 or 801. Nevertheless, its processor is supposed to be composed of four A15 cores and four A7 cores giving it a frequency of 1.4GHz. It’s also supposed to support LTE 4G high-speed internet as well as dual-SIM card, MHL, and NFC. Regarding its camera, the Z7 sports a large 16mp rear camera with an LED flash and supports OIS. It has 4GB RAM and 128 GB ROM and is powered by a 4000mah battery. It’s expected to cost around 3500 RMB (563.82 USD).

It’s the battle of the processors. On one side we have Huawei’s own octa-core Kirin 920. On the other side we have Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon 805. Who will emerge victorious?

The Kirin 920 was made using 28nm architecture and uses the big.Little framework. It consists of four Cortex-A15 (1-2.5GHz) cores and four Cortex-A7 (1.2-1.6 GHz) cores, both being very powerful cores. Its GPU is the Mali-T628, ARM’s newest GPU, which can support a display resolution of 2560 x 1600. Its frequency band is the BalongV7R2 which supports LTE Cat 6 (the Kirin 910’s built-in Balong V7R1 is Cat 4). It’s the first band to be integrated with the Cat 6. It also supports roaming, SGLTE/CSFB and 4G voice messaging programs like VoLTE.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 is a 64-bit processor with each core having a main frequency of 2.7GHz. Its GPU is the Adren 420. It also supports high-resolution display screens. It uses the Gobi 9×35 modem and, like the Kirin 920, supports Cat 6. At most, it can run on 300mbps. It also supports Blue Ray 4.1, GPS and other features.

Samsung’ will release an LTE-A version of the Galaxy S5 with the Snapdragon 805 while Huawei’s Honor 6 will use the Kirin 920. Which one do you think will be better?

Nubia has released more information on their newest flagship, the Z7. The Nubia Z7 continues the Home design used by its predecessor, and is covered by a metal shell. It will be available in black and white.

It was rumoured that the Nubia Z7 has a 5-inch 1080p screen and runs on the Snapdragon 805 chipset. It was also rumoured that it would have 3GB of RAM and a 1600p LG camera, the new nubia UI 2.0 should be installed in it, and should be sold for 2777 RMB. Nubia’s latest reports confirm these rumors.

Qualcomm is one of the chip manufacturer is now also has several mobile processor products, the new chipset is Snapdragon 805 APQ8084.

The Snapdragon 805 is the latest Qualcomm’s mobile processor that build using a 32-bit architecture, and Qualcom is preparing 64-bit architecture next year through their upcoming products, the Snapdragon 810 MSM8994, and Snapdragon 808 MSM8992 chipset.

First, long-winded basis : the difference between the two are on the MSM and APQ series is on the baseband. Logically, the former is more suitable for mobile phones, but the latter will fire up unexpectedly at some time in the phone, the chipset is similar with Snapdragon 600 APQ8064.

The Snapdragon 805 APQ8084 not has integrated with baseband of the manufacturing process, this processor is built based on 28nm process, and the latest baseband is 9×35 which has to spend a 20nm.

Snapdragon 805 will also has the Krait CPU architecture farewell. Whilr the Qualcomm ARMv7 architecture has independent design, this processor was born in 2012, while the first version is Krait 200 chipset, and those chipset is for Snapdragon S4 MSM8960. It is in  starting point, while the Android phones started another round of hardware arms race.

Snapdragon 805 in the specification is naturally quite sturdy. CPU architecture evolved into the Krait 450, running up to 2.65GHz (also writing 2.7GHz) clock speed, and now Snapdragon 800/801 Krait 400 could only running to 2.45GHz. GPU graphics core also enhanced from Adreno 400 578MHz to Adreno 420 600MHz.

Adreno 420 GPU will be full support for OpenGL ES 3.1, OpenCL 1.2, DirectX Feature Level 11.2, also supports compressed texture formats ASTC ARM 2011 was proposed , in addition to better performance of texture.

It also improves the power management algorithm. Qualcomm claims that running GFXBench T-Rex HD/1080p high load graphics test when, Adreno 420 power comparable Snapdragon 800 Adreno 330 reduced by 20% of power.

Snapdragon 805 is equipped with two 64-bit LPDDR3-800 memory controller module (external interface is a 4 x 32-bit), before now they only has 2 x 32-bit. With 1600MHz frequency, the bandwith is reach up to 25.6GB/s, almost doubled.

The Krait 420 is take too much bandwidth, but the user no longer have to worry since the delay will be greatly reduced.

In order to accommodate such a high-bandwidth , and guarantee still applies to phones and tablets, Snapdragon 805 embedded with a special molded package (Moulded Embedded Package / MEP), can be 128-bit memory interface directly connected to the integrated package of DRAM memory chip.

Qualcomm did not disclose specific details of this packaging technology , especially not given diagram.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 is the first chipset to support H.265/HEVC format hardware decoding processor, but does not support encoding, have to wait until Snapdragon 810 is released. In addition, the Snapdragon 808 is also has only decode without coding.

Conclusion :

From the test results, compared to Snapdragpn 805 APQ8084 Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AC CPU performance can be improved by approximately 6%, mainly thanks to increased CPU frequency 200MHz, but do not forget, it is still using the 28nm process, and then optimize the high frequency is also susceptible to bottlenecks and significantly reduced frequency heat, so the final performance also depends on the thermal design that has on the device.

Comparing between Adreno 420 to the current Adreno 330 in architecture, the technology has significant progress, in particular to improve the frequency of 100MHz, the final performance is very good, especially in high- load high-resolution , high-definition process. If you exclude 3DMark, Adreno 420 performance increase of 20-50%.

Adreno 420 will be support for 2K screen resolution, and the 2K screen will becoming the standard for upcoming smartphone and tablet device.

So, when the Snapdragon 805 chipset will available for the user? Qualcomm said that some partners are preparing to launch new products, but some chose to stay in Snapdragon 801, the upcoming 64-bit Snapdragon 810/ 808 maybe released on next year.

Finally, compare the overall specifications summary of Snapdragon 8xx series: that using 20nm process, the 64-bit eight-core processor, support for Adobe 4PU graphics core, LPDDR4 memory, integrated baseband Snapdragon 810 is worth to wait?, So what do you think?

Meizu, known by their affordable smartphone price have become one of the people’s favorite in China. The rumors is still just a rumors, but if and only if, it is released on early August.
