Qualcomm has officially announced a launch event on 2 April, hinting at the arrival of a flagship product. While the company has not explicitly confirmed the name, multiple reports strongly suggest that this will be the Snapdragon 8s Elite / 8s Gen 4 chipset.

Snapdragon 8s Elite / Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 specifications: What to expect?

The upcoming Snapdragon 8s Elite / Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset is expected to be manufactured using TSMC’s 4nm process and will feature an all-big-core CPU architecture. The CPU configuration consists of one Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.21GHz, three Cortex-A720 cores at 3.01GHz, two Cortex-A720 cores at 2.80GHz, and two Cortex-A720 cores at 2.02GHz. This setup ensures high performance across various workloads.

For graphics, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is set to include the Adreno 825 GPU, a slightly scaled-down version of the Adreno 830 found in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. The chipset will also incorporate 6MB of system-level cache (SLC) and 8MB of L3 cache to enhance efficiency.

Benchmark scores suggest that the processor will achieve over 2 million points on AnTuTu, positioning it between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in terms of performance.

Expected devices and availability

Several smartphone brands are preparing to integrate this new chipset into their upcoming devices. The first batch of models featuring the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is expected to debut in April, including the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro, iQOO Z10 Turbo Pro, Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro, and Oppo K13 Pro. Among them, the Z10 Turbo Pro is likely to be the first to launch with this processor.

In the global market, the Poco F7 may debut as the first Snapdragon 8s Elite / 8s Gen 4 phone. It is believed to be a rebranded version of the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro. The Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro is also expected to get rebadged as the Xiaomi 15 Civi in India.

Snapdragon 8s Elite

The Snapdragon 8s Elite shares its fundamental DNA with the 8s Gen 3, including the same 4nm manufacturing process (versus the 8 Elite’s more advanced 3nm node). Qualcomm has switched from the 1+4+3 core cluster to a 1+3+4 one, although, the cores are still the same as last year’s 8s Gen 3. This exact information is disappointing, as the 8s Gen 3 was expected to include the new Oryon cores of the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

The clock speeds are only slightly higher than those of the 8s Gen 3: a single Cortex-X4 prime core clocked at 3.21GHz (compared to 3.0GHz on the 8s Gen 3), accompanied by five Cortex-A720 performance cores (three at 3.01GHz and two at 2.8GHz) and two Cortex-A520 efficiency cores at 2.02GHz. This contrasts sharply with the 8 Elite’s dual custom Oryon prime cores running at 4.32GHz and six Oryon performance cores at 3.53GHz.

Graphics performance follows a similar mid-tier approach

The 8s Elite will ship with an Adreno 825 GPU – a clear step up from the 8s Gen 3’s Adreno 735, but still below the 8 Elite’s top-tier Adreno 830. Early benchmarks suggest the chip will deliver around two million points on AnTuTu, which positions it between the 8s Gen 3 and 8 Elite in performance.

The leak confirms earlier sightings of the 8s Elite in devices like the iQOO Z10 Turbo Pro and suggests Qualcomm is targeting the upper mid-range market rather than creating a true flagship alternative. While the lack of Oryon cores may disappoint some enthusiasts, the 8s Elite’s boosted clock speeds and improved GPU should offer meaningful gains over the 8s Gen 3.

With no official launch date announced, the Snapdragon 8s Elite remains somewhat mysterious. For context, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 was launched back on March 18th, last year. Nonetheless, these specifications paint a clear picture of Qualcomm’s strategy: offering manufacturers a cost-effective performance-centric chip that bridges the gap between mid-range and flagship tier chips, without cannibalizing sales of their flagship silicon.

There’s an “s” edition of Snapdragon 8 Elite in the pipeline, as per reports. If you take a look at the Snapdragon SoCs lineup, you’ll realize where it will be positioned. The Snapdragon 8s Elite will be a toned-down version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip while offering high performance at a more affordable price point.

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, unveiled last year, sits below the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 but got a lot of attention. So, we’re going to see another “s” edition of the Snapdragon flagship — Snapdragon 8s Elite.

While the brand is entirely silent on this, recent leaks have revealed many crucial details about the chip, including CPU, GPU, and benchmark scores. So, here’s a compilation of everything we know about the Snapdragon 8s Elite.

Snapdragon 8s Elite: Everything we know so far

According to a prolific leakster Digital Chat Station, the Snapdragon 8s Elite is able to achieve performance that sits between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and 8 Gen 3.

Recently, an unknown Vivo phone with the model number V2453A appeared on Geekbench. This is believed to be the iQOO Z10 Turbo Pro, which, as per Geekbench details, likely runs the Snapdragon 8s Elite. The chip has one core at 3.21GHz, three cores at 3.01GHz, two at 2.80GHz, and two at 2.02GHz.

What’s more interesting is the GPU, Adreno 825, according to the benchmark. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has an Adreno 750, and the 8 Elite has an Adreno 830. The Adreno 825 GPU in the Geekbench listing above is from the same generation as the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which further led to the belief that the Vivo V2453A device runs the Snapdragon 8s Elite.

The Vivo device on Geekbench 6 has received 1,967 single-core scores and 5,827 multi-core scores. On AuTuTu, it gets over 2 million AnTuTu points, as per Digital Chat Station.

Snapdragon 8s Elite benchmark scores

Geekbench

1,967 (single-core)
5,827 (multi-core)

AnTuTu

2 million+

What’s more? The Snapdragon 8s Elite chip is codenamed ‘SM8735’ and is leaked to have a CPU architecture consisting of Cortex-X4 and Cortex-A720 cores. This means it won’t have Oryon cores that were developed in-house by Qualcomm but ARM-designed cores that were used in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 generation.

Snapdragon 8s Elite specs

Codename

SM8735

Cores

8

CPU configuration

1 prime core @ 3.21 GHz
3 performance cores @ 3.01 GHz
2 performance cores @ 2.80 GHz
2 efficiency cores @ 2.02 GHz

CPU max frequency

3,210 MHz

GPU

Adreno 825

Snapdragon 8s Elite vs. Snapdragon 8-series chipsets: Early comparison

Snapdragon 8s Elite vs. Snapdragon 8s Gen 3:

The Snapdragon 8s Elite steps up from the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, primarily through its enhanced CPU configuration. With one Cortex-X4 core at 3.21GHz, the 8s Elite promises better single-thread performance. The multi-core performance, with additional high-performance cores, should also show improvement over the 8s Gen 3’s setup. However, the Adreno 825 GPU, though newer, might not offer a significant leap in graphics performance, keeping the focus on CPU efficiency and performance.

Snapdragon 8s Elite vs. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

The gap between these two is more pronounced. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 includes a more powerful Cortex-X4 core, additional high-performance Cortex-A720 cores, and an Adreno 750 GPU, which is better for gaming and graphically intensive tasks. The 8s Elite, while efficient, can’t match the raw computational power or the GPU capabilities of the 8 Gen 3, positioning it as a strong mid-tier option rather than a direct competitor to Qualcomm’s flagship.

Snapdragon 8s Elite vs. Snapdragon 8 Elite

The Snapdragon 8 Elite is Qualcomm’s next big leap, featuring custom Oryon cores which are expected to offer superior performance both in single and multi-core scenarios compared to the 8s Elite’s ARM-based cores. With higher clock speeds and a more advanced GPU, the 8 Elite would theoretically outclass the 8s Elite in benchmarks and real-world use, especially in gaming and AI tasks.

Snapdragon 8s Elite vs. MediaTek chipsets: Early comparison

Snapdragon 8s Elite vs. MediaTek Dimensity 9400

The Dimensity 9400, with its all-big core CPU design and Immortalis-G925 GPU, stands as a formidable competitor in the flagship segment. It might deliver superior GPU performance for gaming and graphics tasks, potentially outshining the Adreno 825 in raw numbers. However, the CPU performance of the Snapdragon 8s Elite might offer a different kind of value, focusing on efficiency and thermal management, which could make it more suitable for daily use scenarios where sustained performance and battery life are prioritized over peak performance metrics.

Snapdragon 8s Elite vs. MediaTek Dimensity 9300

This comparison is closer, as the Dimensity 9300 is also a high-performance chip with good CPU and GPU balance. The 8s Elite might have an edge in CPU efficiency due to its configuration, but the Dimensity 9300’s GPU could perform slightly better under sustained loads, thanks to MediaTek’s optimizations for gaming.

Snapdragon 8s Elite vs. MediaTek Dimensity 8400 and 8300

Here, the 8s Elite would likely outpace both in CPU performance, thanks to its higher-clocked cores. The GPU performance might be on par with the Dimensity 8400 due to similar generation tech, but it should surpass the 8300. However, MediaTek chips often shine in power efficiency, potentially offering longer battery life in similar devices.

Launch timeframe and expected devices

Looking towards its launch, the Snapdragon 8s Elite is anticipated to make an appearance in the market around March or April 2025. Several brands have already shown interest in incorporating this new chip into their lineup.

The iQOO Z10 Turbo Pro is one of the eagerly awaited devices that might leverage the capabilities of the Snapdragon 8s Elite. It is expected to arrive with specs, such as a 1.5K 144Hz display, a 50-megapixel dual-camera setup, a massive 7,000mAh battery, and 90W fast charging. The iQOO Z10 Turbo Pro is expected to be a flagship device that leverages the performance of the new chipset.

The Redmi Turbo 4 Pro is expected to sport a 1.5K OLED panel, a 7500mAh battery with 90W fast charging, a 50-megapixel dual-camera system, up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. While the Turbo 4 Pro remain exclusive to the Chinese market, it may get rebranded as the Poco F7 in other regions.

The Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro, a selfie-focused flagship phone, is also expected to feature the new chip. It may likely get rebranded as the Xiaomi 15 Civi in other markets. Lastly, there’s speculation about a Realme phone possibly adopting the Snapdragon 8s Elite.

It is speculated that the upcoming Snapdragon 8s Elite will power the successor edition of these smartphones. In a new development, a Vivo / iQOO phone featuring the unannounced chip has emerged in Geekbench’s database. The listing has revealed its CPU and GPU details.

Snapdragon 8s Elite Geekbench listing spotted

Alleged iQOO Z10 Turbo / Turbo Pro’s Geekbench listing

As can be seen, a new Vivo / iQOO phone with the V2453A model number has emerged on Geekbench. The Qualcomm chip that powers the device has a 1+3+2+2 configuration with a prime CPU core working at 3.21GHz. It is accompanied by three CPU cores clocking at 3.01, two CPU cores working at 2.80GHz, and two CPU cores operating at 2.02GHz. For graphics, the chip is equipped with an Adreno 825 chip.

These details do not match with any of the existing Qualcomm chips, which indicates that it is an upcoming chip. According to tipster Digital Chat Station, it is the upcoming Snapdragon 8s Elite, which has the SM8735 part number. The tipster previously mentioned that the Snapdragon 8s Elite’s architecture would remain X4 + A720, featuring a 1+3+2+2 configuration, akin to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

The Geekbench listing further reveals that the device runs on Android 15 and has 12 GB of RAM. While the identity of the phone is not known yet, it could be the iQOO Z0 Turbo or Turbo Pro, which is expected to debut as one of the first phones powered by the Snapdragon 8s Elite chip.

Apart from the Z10 Turbo, the Snapdragon 8s Elite is expected to power other phones, such as the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro, Poco F7, Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro, and a Realme flagship.

Qualcomm is reportedly gearing up to launch the Snapdragon 8s Elite (SM8735), a new mid-range chipset aiming to bridge the performance gap between premium and budget-friendly devices. Leaks suggest the 8s Elite will deliver impressive performance, rivaling even some Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 flagships, while maintaining a more competitive price point.

According to renowned leaker Digital Chat Station, the 8s Elite is expected to achieve an AnTuTu score of around 2 million, placing it in a similar performance range as Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered devices, though slightly trailing behind.

It will not use the new Oryon cores

The tipster also says, the new chipset will not utilize Qualcomm’s custom-designed Oryon cores, which were introduced with the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Instead, it will rely on a more conventional CPU architecture, featuring a Cortex-X4 prime core and A720 efficiency cores, resulting in a performance similar to Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

It is also expected to exhibit a slight performance dip in GPU-intensive tasks compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This trade-off could be a strategic move by Qualcomm to optimize power consumption and maintain competitive pricing for the mid-range segment.

The SM8735 chipset was previously spotted in Xiaomi’s HyperOS software earlier this year. Rumors suggest it could power upcoming devices like the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro or Redmi K90.

DCS also says that the Snapdragon 8s Elite is likely to gain widespread adoption among leading smartphone brands. Alongside Xiaomi, manufacturers such as Honor, iQOO, and Oppo are also rumored to be developing ultra-slim photography-focused phones powered by this chipset. These smartphones are expected to launch around April, hinting at a possible unveiling of the 8s Elite in March or April.

The arrival of the Snapdragon 8s Elite would intensify competition in the mid-range segment, pushing manufacturers to deliver even more powerful and feature-rich devices at attractive price points. Consumers can also expect to see a wider range of high-performance options at more affordable price points, offering a compelling alternative to flagship devices for those seeking a powerful and feature-packed smartphone experience without the premium price tag.

While its official name remains uncertain, rumors suggest it might be called the Snapdragon 8s Elite, new details about the SoC have surfaced, courtesy of the reliable tech tipster Digital Chat Station.

Snapdragon 8s Elite performs better than the 8 Gen 2

According to the leak, the 8s Elite will land somewhere —performance-wise— between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and the 8 Gen 3. This aligns with the positioning of the 8s Gen 3, which offered slightly lower performance compared to its flagship counterpart.

However, unlike the 8s Gen 3 which utilized the same prime core as the 8 Gen 2, the specifics of the 8s Elite’s cores remain unclear. Qualcomm introduced its own custom-designed Oryon cores with the 8 Elite, but it’s unknown if the 8s Elite will follow suit or stick with ARM’s standard offerings.

Despite the lack of core details, Digital Chat Station suggests the first smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 8s Elite will hit the market around April next year.

The leak also suggests the possibility of devices equipped with a 7000mAh battery paired with this chipset. Xiaomi appears to be a likely candidate, as a previous report mentions a Xiaomi phone in development with the 8s Elite, a 7000mAh battery, and 90W charging.

This phone might succeed the Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro, which debuted as the first device powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. Stay tuned for more updates as new details emerge.
