The Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders is a flagship with amazing specifications, but its price is all but affordable. Design

Despite it is a more affordable phone, the iQOO 8 has a way more attractive design than the Asus Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders. While the Qualcomm phone has thick bezels around the display, the iQOO 8 comes with a very high screen-to-body ratio and a punch-hole design, as well as an original rear side made with a pattern that reminds of carbon fiber in the Black color option. It also offers the HDR10+ certification (instead of the HDR10 found on the iQOO 8) and a wider display diagonal with 6.78 inches. It even sports a higher brightness with peaks of 1200 nits, as well as better protection thanks to Gorilla Glass Victus that is the latest protection by Corning. Note that the iQOO 8 has an in-display fingerprint reader, but its rival does not, despite it comes with an OLED panel. The Asus Phone for Snapdragon Insiders has a rear-mounted fingerprint reader, but its quality is higher because it is an ultrasonic sensor. With the Asus Phone for Snapdragon Insiders, you also get better audio thanks to stereo speakers with the Snapdragon Sound system.

Specs & Software

The Asus Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders and the iQOO 8 are powered by the same processor: the octa-core Snapdragon 888 mobile platform built at 5 nm with a max frequency of 2.84 GHz. But the Asus Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders has a superior memory configuration which consists of 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of UFS 3.1 native storage. The top-end memory configuration of the iQOO 8 includes just 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of native storage. Note that iQOO 8 has a customized user interface (OriginOS), while the Snapdragon Phone runs stock Android.

Camera

The Asus Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders has a superior camera department as well. The rear camera is triple and includes a 64 MP main sensor with OIS, a telephoto sensor with OIS and 3x optical zoom, and a 12 MP ultrawide camera. The camera is able to record 8K videos at 30 fps and 4K videos at 60 fps. The iQOO 8 still comes with a nice camera including a 50 MP main sensor and a pair of 13 MP lenses including a telephoto camera and an ultrawide sensor, but they are inferior cameras compared to the Snapdragon Phone.

Battery

The iQOO 8 is equipped with a bigger battery coming with a capacity of 4350 mAh, so it is able to offer a longer battery life on a single charge. Further, it has a faster charging technology with a power of a whopping 120W. Unfortunately, the Asus Phone for Snapdragon Insiders has just 4000 mAh and its battery life is below average. It supports 65W fast charging which is great, but inferior to the iQOO 8 in terms of charging speeds.

Price

The starting price of the iQOO 8 for the Chinese market is €500/$600, while you need almost €1300/$1550 to purchase the Asus Phone for Snapdragon Insiders in the global market. The Asus Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders is a superior phone if we exclude battery life and charging speeds. But given its very high price, the iQOO 8 is a better deal.

Design

The most elegant and modern design belongs to the iQOO 8 Pro, especially in the BMW M Motorsport color option with a leather back. It has a curved edge to edge display, a very high screen to body ratio, and a very original look. It is even the thinnest phone of the trio. Given that it is a phone meant mainly for gamers, the Asus ROG Phone 5s has a gaming-centric design with an RGB logo which includes the Air Triggers to enhance the gaming experience. The Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders does not have a very elaborate design, but just like the ROG Phone 5s, it comes with the Gorilla Glass Victus protection which is the best one by Corning.

Display

The most advanced display belongs to the iQOO 8 Pro. It has a higher Quad HD+ resolution with 1440 x 3200 pixels, and it also comes with the LTPO technology enabling an adaptive refresh rate that goes from 1 to 120 Hz. You do not get these features with the Asus ROG Phone 5s and the Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders, but both these phones come with a higher 144 Hz refresh rate which is more interesting for gamers. The Asus ROG Phone 5s also sets a new touch sampling rate record with a max of 360 Hz.

Hardware/Software

The Asus ROG Phone 5s and the iQOO 8 Pro come with a more powerful processor: the Snapdragon 888+ mobile platform by Qualcomm which is actually an upgraded Snapdragon 888. The Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders comes with the inferior Snapdragon 888, but it is the only one to offer 16 GB of RAM (instead of just 12 GB). Note that the Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders runs stock Android, while the other two rivals come with customized UIs.

Camera

All of these devices are great camera phones, but on paper, the iQOO 8 Pro looks like a slightly better device due to its superior 48 MP ultrawide camera. However, the Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders is great with its 3x optical zoom and an advanced main camera with OIS.

Battery

The Asus ROG Phone 5s is the handset providing the longest battery life thanks to a capacity of 6000 mAh. iQOO 8 Pro is an average battery phone with 4500 mAh, but it has faster 120W charging.
