<p>As per official notes, the Snapdragon Summit will be a three day event and will be held in Hawaii and starts on November 15 till November 17. Earlier today, the chipmaking giant had officially announced the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/07/20/qualcomm-snapdragon-w5-plus-gen-1-soc-launch/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Snapdragon W5 and W5+ SoC</a>&#8216;s launch during the Snapdragon Summit conference. Now, it has confirmed that it will be unveiling its next generation of flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the same event.</p>
<p>Typically, the company usually releases its latest high end chips at the end of the year, around December. But now, the dates have apparently moved up, although, Qualcomm has yet to reveal the reason for this. At the moment, it is likely that the Chinese tech giant Xiaomi will be the first to launch a flagship smartphone that features this upcoming chipset. It will probably launch its Xiaomi 13 series of premium grade handsets with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-464851 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2.jpeg?x10805" alt="Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2" width="2500" height="1250" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2.jpeg 2500w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-300x150.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-1024x512.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-768x384.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-1536x768.jpeg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-2048x1024.jpeg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-696x348.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-1068x534.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-1920x960.jpeg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-840x420.jpeg 840w" sizes="(max-width: 2500px) 100vw, 2500px" /></p>
<p>Last year, Motorola was the first to launch a flagship model with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. In other words, we can expect it to be one of the first if not the very first again as well, with the Edge 40 Pro model. Keep in mind that the Snapdragon Summit is still a while away, so stick around for more updates regarding this matter.</p>

The new chipset is called Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the company has also revealed details about the processor.</p>
<p>The chipset has been launched as a successor of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-888">Snapdragon 888</a> but now the company has adopted a new naming scheme and this new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the first chipset to bear a new naming scheme.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-428326 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-1.jpg?x10805" alt="Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1" width="1820" height="1213" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-1.jpg 1820w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-1-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-1-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-1-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-1-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 1820px) 100vw, 1820px" /></p>
<p>As you would typically expect, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is focused on improvements in six major areas &#8212; <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/5g">5G connectivity</a>, camera sensors, AI, gaming, audio, and security. It is also built using the 4nm process instead of the 5nm process on which its predecessor Snapdragon 888 was built.</p>
<p>It is the first chip from Qualcomm to feature the latest Armv9 architecture. The eight-core Kryo CPU has a single Cortex-X2 prime core at 3.0GHz, three Cortex-A710 performance cores at 2.5GHz, and four Cortex-A510 efficiency cores at 1.8GHz.</p>
<p>Overall, the company says that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 offers up to 20 percent better performance and is up to 30 percent more power-efficient than its predecessor. It has a new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/gpu">Adreno GPU</a> that is promised to offer 30 percent faster graphics rendering, in addition to 25 percent better power efficiency.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-428329 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Snapdragon-8-Gen-1-Block-Diagram.png?x10805" alt="Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Block Diagram" width="679" height="669" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Snapdragon-8-Gen-1-Block-Diagram.png 679w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Snapdragon-8-Gen-1-Block-Diagram-300x296.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Snapdragon-8-Gen-1-Block-Diagram-426x420.png 426w" sizes="(max-width: 679px) 100vw, 679px" /></p>
<figure class="e-image"></figure>
<p>It has a new imaging system that comes with an 18-bit ISP, with improved dynamic range, color, and speeds. It supports 8K HDR video along with a new Bokeh Engine that brings Portrait Mode-style shots to video. There&#8217;s also an Always-On ISP that delivers low power consumption to tasks like face unlock.</p>
<p>For connectivity, it comes packed with a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/09/qualcomm-next-gen-snapdragon-x65-5g-modem-10gbps-speeds/">Snapdragon X65</a> modem which is Qualcomm&#8217;s fourth-generation 5G modem and is built on the existing mmWave and sub-6GHz compatibility, with support for up to 10Gbps speeds and the latest 3GPP Release 16 specification. It is coupled with the FastConnect 6900 Mobile Connectivity System, which it claims to offer the best WiFi 6 speeds.</p>

Taking care of the security is the new Trust Management Engine. It also supports the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android">Android</a> Ready SE standard, with support for digital car keys, driver’s licenses, IDs, and e-money wallets. There’s also built-in iSIM support for directly connecting to cellular networks.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-428327 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-1-2.jpg?x10805" alt="Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1" width="1720" height="1147" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-1-2.jpg 1720w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-1-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-1-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-1-2-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-1-2-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-1-2-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-1-2-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 1720px) 100vw, 1720px" /></p>
<p id="O377mH">For artificial intelligence, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 features Qualcomm’s latest Hexagon processor with the seventh-generation <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ai">AI engine</a>. It is claimed to be four times faster than its predecessor and up to 1.7 times more power-efficient.</p>
<p>Qualcomm has revealed that the first devices powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor are expected to launch by the end of this year. Currently, the list of the brands that have signed up to launch a device powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 includes Black Shark, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/honor">Honor</a>, iQOO, Motorola, Nubia, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus">OnePlus</a>, OPPO, Realme, Redmi, SHARP, Sony Corporation, Vivo, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi">Xiaomi</a>, and ZTE.</p>
<p>Interestingly, companies like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google">Google</a> are missing from the list as they are among the brands pushing for the in-house development of their own chips to reduce reliance on third-party vendors.</p>

A report has suggested that the known chipmaker is working with another brand to launch its own mobile gaming centric handsets.</p>
<p>According to a <a href="https://www.digitimes.com/news/a20201007PD210.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>DigiTimes</em> </a>report, &#8220;Qualcomm reportedly will team up with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/asustek/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Asustek Computer</a> to develop and launch its own-brand gaming smartphones at the end of 2020 at the earliest, according to industry sources.” In other words, the chip giant will team up with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/asus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Asus</a>, who will build the gaming smartphones for Qualcomm. Furthermore, the first model into this new lineup could arrive as early as the end of 2020, as per the industry sources.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-346182 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Qualcomm-Tech-Summit.gif?x10805" alt="Qualcomm Tech Summit 2020" width="600" height="550" /></p>
<p>Notably, Qualcomm is also gearing up for the Snapdragon Tech Summit, which is a virtual event that will start from 1st December 2020 and last till 2nd December 2020. In this event, the company is expected to announce its next gen flagship the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm-snapdragon-875/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Snapdragon 875</a> SoC. With recent launches, the company has been working on launching chipsets focused more on gaming, which has been a growing market in the smartphone industry.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/07/realme-7i-and-realme-7-pro-se-with-sun-kissed-launched-for-rs-11999-272-and-rs-19999-177/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Realme 7i and Realme 7 Pro SE with sun-kissed leather back unveiled for Rs 11,999 (~$272) and Rs 19,999 (~$177)</a></strong></h6>
<p>Qualcomm chips like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-730g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Snapdragon 730G</a> or <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-765g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">765G</a> are specifically focused on offering good gaming performance in mid range segments. And now, it appears that the company wants to enter the market as well, rather than simply supplying the numerous OEMs with its chips. Asus is also a great partner brand for this lineup as the company is also known for its own ROG Gaming Smartphone lineup, with the latest launch being the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/asus-rog-phone-3/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">ROG Phone 3</a> that sports the powerful <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-865-plus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Snapdragon 865+</a> chip.</p>
<figure id="attachment_342479" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-342479" style="width: 600px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-342479 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/asus-rog-phone-3.png?x10805" alt="Qualcomm" width="600" height="290" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/asus-rog-phone-3.png 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/asus-rog-phone-3-300x145.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-342479" class="wp-caption-text">ASUS ROG Phone 3</figcaption></figure>
<p>Unfortunately, finer details regarding this possible Qualcomm gaming handset is currently unknown. Although, it can be assumed that it will likely arrive with its latest Snapdragon 875 chipset but that is still speculation, so take it with a pinch of salt. However, we can also expect to hear more about the device soon, with a launch that would most probably be during the Snapdragon Tech Summit.</p>

The event will again hold in Maui County in the US State of Hawaii. The tech giant is expected to unveil its next-generation technologies, including the next-gen <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon">Snapdragon</a> 865 that would feature on flagship smartphones next year. This douses speculations that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/10/10/qualcomm-sd865-launch-next-month/">chipset could be launched this November</a>.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/qualcomm.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-263537" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/qualcomm.jpg?x10805" alt="Qualcomm Snapdragon Chip" width="750" height="516" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/qualcomm.jpg 750w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/qualcomm-300x206.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/qualcomm-100x70.jpg 100w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/qualcomm-218x150.jpg 218w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/qualcomm-696x479.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/qualcomm-610x420.jpg 610w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></a></p>
<p>The Snapdragon 865 will no doubt be the star of the event. As for the name, it was earlier confirmed when Chinese luxury brand <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/10/18/8848-titanium-m6-5g-luxury-phone-launches-as-the-first-snapdragon-865-phone/">8848 unveiled its upcoming Titanium M6 5G handset</a> expected to hit the market next year. The Snapdragon 865 will be the successor of the present Snapdragon 855 which was announced at the event last year and presently grace flagship models released this year.</p>
<p>Quite surprisingly, Qualcomm has kept details of the SD 865 a closely guarded secret but the SoC is said to have <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/08/09/snapdragon-865-geekbench-listing-seems-to-have-appeared/">appeared on GeekBench</a> earlier in August. We expect the chipset to come with a version integrated with a 5G modem. The tech giant may equally announce 5G-integrated chipsets for mid-range phones that would be released in 2020 as well. An earlier leak by tipster Roland Quandt says the next-gen flagship chipset has the model number SM8250. He also disclosed that the chipset will come in two variants that go by the codenames- Kona and Huracan. Both variants will have support for LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.0 flash storage. It is expected to be built on TSMC&#8217; 7nm FinFet process.</p>
<figure id="attachment_263536" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-263536" style="width: 750px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/snapdragon.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-263536" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/snapdragon.jpg?x10805" alt="Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/snapdragon.jpg 750w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/snapdragon-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/snapdragon-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/snapdragon-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-263536" class="wp-caption-text">Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor</figcaption></figure>

<p>Further, we expect the chipset to come with an updated Adreno GPU and new CPU cores, possibly based on the latest powerhouse Cortex-A75 part from Arm. Qualcomm also doubled down on image processing and machine learning capabilities last year, and these are likely to be areas of focus one again with the Snapdragon 865.</p>
<p>Apart from the Snapdragon 865, another product Qualcomm may unveil is an upgraded variant of the Snapdragon 8cx SoC, the company&#8217;s first dedicated laptop chip. The Snapdragon 8cx was first announced during the Snapdragon Tech Summit 2018. The chipset brings enhanced CPU, GPU, and video processing capabilities. Also, a new Snapdragon Wear chip for smartwatches may also make the product catalogue for the event as well as a new audio product.</p>
<p>We&#8217;ll give you extensive coverage of the event here on Gizmochina when it kicks-off.</p>
