The X60 was bundled on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/09/asus-rog-phone-5-with-snapdragon-888-and-16gb-ram-spotted-at-geekbench/">Snapdragon 888</a> processor. The new Snapdragon X65 promises to bring superior speed and support for up to 10Gbps speeds on both standalone and non-standalone 5G networks.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Snapdragon-X65-and-X62-modems.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-370340" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Snapdragon-X65-and-X62-modems.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="650" height="371" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Snapdragon-X65-and-X62-modems.jpg 650w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Snapdragon-X65-and-X62-modems-300x171.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px" /></a></p>
<p>In terms of the upgrades that this new modem brings, the Snapdragon X65 offers a maximum download speed of 10Gbps which is an upgrade over the 7.5Gbps maximum download speed offered by the SD X60 from last year. This speed is merely theoretical, though, as there is yet to be a 5G network that is capable of providing such a level of throughput. However, with the upgrade in 5G connectivity, the modem is battle-ready for whenever the 5G throughput will get to that level.</p>
<p>Further, the Snapdragon X65 comes with support for the upcoming 3GPP Release 16 specification and Qualcomm claims it is the first modem to have such support. Release 16 which is also called “5G phase 2” is designed to bring such improvements as power consumption, massive MIMO connectivity, and more. Release 16 comes with improved support for unlicensed spectrum and non-public networks designed to facilitate 5G network expansion from consumer to more commercial uses.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-X65-5G-Modem-RF-System-.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-370339" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-X65-5G-Modem-RF-System-.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="1200" height="711" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-X65-5G-Modem-RF-System-.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-X65-5G-Modem-RF-System--300x178.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-X65-5G-Modem-RF-System--768x455.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-X65-5G-Modem-RF-System--1024x607.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-X65-5G-Modem-RF-System--696x412.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-X65-5G-Modem-RF-System--1068x633.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-X65-5G-Modem-RF-System--709x420.jpg 709w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></a></p>
<p>Qualcomm touts the modem to arrive with an upgradable architecture thus making room for the addition of new features which will, in turn, make the device it runs on to remain relevant and current for a long time, more so as 3GPP Release 16 continues to roll out, allowing devices to stay relevant and up to date for longer.</p>
<p>Qualcomm also announced the Qualcomm 545 mmWave antenna. The antenna is a 4th-generation model been though it retains the size of the third-gen model. However, the new antenna sees improvement in the transmission power and now supports the full range of global mmWave frequencies.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Qualcomm-Fixed-Wireless-Access-Platfrom-Gen-2.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-370338" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Qualcomm-Fixed-Wireless-Access-Platfrom-Gen-2.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="688" height="500" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Qualcomm-Fixed-Wireless-Access-Platfrom-Gen-2.jpg 688w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Qualcomm-Fixed-Wireless-Access-Platfrom-Gen-2-300x218.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Qualcomm-Fixed-Wireless-Access-Platfrom-Gen-2-324x235.jpg 324w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Qualcomm-Fixed-Wireless-Access-Platfrom-Gen-2-578x420.jpg 578w" sizes="(max-width: 688px) 100vw, 688px" /></a></p>
<p>Also announced, is an “AI antenna tuning technology,” that is touted to enable huge improvements in performance due to the deployment of AI-powered tuning. To put it in perspective, Qualcomm explained that the new system has up to 30 percent more accuracy in the manner it detects the way users grip their phones in order to bump up the connection efficiency, faster data speeds, and better battery life.</p>
<p>We don&#8217;t expect the Snapdragon X65 to be available anytime soon going by precedence. We expect it to be unveiled in the next-generation flagship Snapdragon chipset that is expected to be announced in December.</p>

<p>Recently, it was found that the new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/iphone-12/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Apple iPhone 12</a> series of smartphones feature <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-x55/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Qualcomm&#8217;s Snapdragon X55 modems,</a> which was discovered in a teardown video. Furthermore, the company&#8217;s official roadmap also details the use of Qualcomm models in future products. Notably, Apple is also planning on using the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-x60/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Snapdragon X60</a> modem between 1st June 2021 and 31st May 2022, which was discovered via an Apple-Qualcomm settlement filing.</p>

<p>Similarly, the iPhone maker is also committed to use the yet o be announced X65 and X70 modems as well in their future products dated between 1st June 2022 and 31st May 2024. These settlement details are over a year old now, however, they went under the radar for quite some time. But it reveals Apple&#8217;s plans on its cooperation with Qualcomm.</p>

<p>For those unaware, the Snapdragon X60 is built on a 5nm process and is currently the chipmakers high end 5G modem. It is more energy efficient than the previous generation&#8217;s X55 modem, whilst having a smaller size overall as well. Smartphones that feature the X60 will also be able to aggregate data from both mmWave and sub 6GHz at the same time to achieve high speeds with lower latency.</p>

<p>The Snapdragon X60 will be the third generation of Qualcomm&#8217;s 5G modem integrated with an RF system. The X50 kicked off 5G and the X55 is being used in the latest Samsung devices. The X60 is designed to scale 5G devices and allow carriers to be flexible with the spectrum and optimize performance.</p>
<p>Snapdragon X60 comes with the first 5-nm 5G baseband design. X60 has the ability to aggregate multiple 5G bands and combinations including mmWave and sub-6 using frequency division duplex (FDD) and time division duplex (TDD). The modem is equipped with the Qualcomm QTM535 mmWave antenna module with a more compact design. Qualcomm didn&#8217;t mention how much smaller the QTM535 is relative to its predecessor.<br />
The 5G modem-to-antenna system can deliver up to 7.5 Gbps download speeds with 3 Gbps upload speeds.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/snapdragon-x60-2.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-305930" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/snapdragon-x60-2.png?x10805" alt="" width="923" height="517" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/snapdragon-x60-2.png 923w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/snapdragon-x60-2-300x168.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/snapdragon-x60-2-768x430.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/snapdragon-x60-2-696x390.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/snapdragon-x60-2-750x420.png 750w" sizes="(max-width: 923px) 100vw, 923px" /></a></p>
<p>The x60 will reportedly be sampled in the first quarter of this year and will start finding its way into devices from early 2021.</p>
