Sony has officially announced a new pair of soundbar speakers in India. The audio products are a part of the brand’s popular BRAVIA lineup and include the new Theatre Bar 8 and Theatre Bar 9 soundbar speakers. These are designed to elevate your home entertainment experience with a ton of noteworthy features.

Sony BRAVIA Theatre Bar 9 and Bar 8: Specs

The BRAVIA Theatre Bar 9 is equipped with 13 speaker units and the Bar 8 packs 11 speaker units. Both models feature 360 Spatial Sound via Sony’s proprietary Sound Mapping technology. In simple terms, the speakers can create phantom speakers for a wide sound field to offer a cinematic experience even if you don’t have extra speakers. So the soundbars alone are capable of 360 Spatial Sound Mapping. Although, you can pair these with optional subwoofers and rear speakers.

The BRAVIA Theatre Bar 9 and Bar 8 support gaming optimizations for a more immersive experience. Connectivity options include HDMI ARC and Optical Input. Sony also has the BRAVIA Connect app to allow for mobile control from your smartphone. It comes with IMAX Enhanced optimizations as well with a 5.0.2 channel on the Bar 8 and 7.0.2 channel support on Bar 9. This release also arrived a week after the company unveiled the new BRAVIA 4K HDR display in India.

Pricing and Availability

The new Sony BRAVIA Theatre Bar 8 and Theatre Bar 9 via official retail stores, major electronic chains, and online platforms as well. These are currently on sale with the Bar 8 having a 89,990 INR price tag, while the higher end Bar 9 costing 129,990 INR. Customers can also avail an additional 8,000 INR cashback on the Bar 8 and a 10,000 INR cashback on the Bar 9 through select credit cards. This deal is valid for online and offline purchases. Sony is also bringing a special combo that offers an 8,000 INR discount on select BRAVIA televisions with two soundbar speakers.

Sony’s new televisions have arrived in India, with the launch of brand-new Sony Bravia 7 Mini LED TVs. The Bravia 7 series is available in three sizes: 55-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch. All models feature stunning 4K resolution.

Sony Bravia 7 series is nov available on Sony India‘s official website. According to MySmartPrice, the Sony Bravia 7 TVs will be available in 55-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch sizes in India. The 55-inch model is priced at 182,990 INR (approximately $2,192), and the 65-inch model at 229,990 INR (approximately $2,754). The price for the 75-inch model has not been announced yet. Starting July 1, Sony Bravia 7 series will be available at Sony Centers, select physical stores, and e-commerce websites.

The Sony Bravia 7 TVs feature a stunning 3840×2150 resolution miniLED (QLED) panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate. Sony offers XR contrast booster technology for richer colors on the miniLED panels. Additionally, the TVs support HDR10, Dolby Vision, and DLG.

The Bravia 7 series comes with a 4 x 10W speaker system, including 2 bass reflex and 2 tweeters, and supports Dolby Atmos and DTS X. The TVs are powered by the XR Processor. For connectivity, the Bravia 7 lineup includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, 4 HDMI BRAVIA Sync ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, 2 USB ports, and 1 Ethernet port. Based on a teaser campaign launched recently, Sony India is gearing up to introduce a new Bravia series TV soon. The teaser campaign has the tagline “Turn off your cellphones and maintain silence”, which could only mean an immersive entertainment experience. A link on the Sony India website lets users sign up for notifications about the upcoming product. The page is titled “Notify Me Bravia,” further confirming that the new launch belongs to the Bravia TV lineup.

Alognside that information, there are some other teasers, including an image of a “3D MOVIE TICKET” dated July 4, 2024, which could mean that the launch could happen on that day. This could imply features like 3D spatial audio, Dolby Atmos or Zero Bezels.

The teaser campaign will definitely generate a fair amount of excitement in India. Sony India has introduced the BRAVIA XR OLED A80K OLED television series. This series has three models: the XR-55A80K (55-inch), the XR-65A80K (65-inch), and the XR-77A80K (77-inch).

The A80K can access over a billion colors and accurately reproduce each one thanks to the XR Triluminos Pro, which is powered by the XR Cognitive Processor.

Additionally, it features XR OLED motion technology and 4K upscaling. In addition to 4K 120 fps, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), Auto HDR Tone, and a dedicated gaming mode with HDMI 2.1 compatibility, it also offers Auto Game Mode for gamers.

The BRAVIA XR OLED A80K range of TVs features Acoustic Surface Audio+ technology, which projects sound directly from the screen. To create acoustics that moves with the image, three actuators behind the television vibrate. Additionally, two actuators on the sides enhance the high-frequency sound, producing clear and realistic communication. The left and right subwoofers boost the bass for a more immersive home audio experience.

Bravia (Best Resolution Audio Visual Integrated Architecture) is a subsidiary of Sony that is associated with high definition TVs although once in a while they also work with the mobile phone division to make those crisp Xperia displays we love. At this year’s edition of CES they unveiled a new OLED TV whose design stands out.

While flat screen TV’s can either hang on your wall via a wall bracket or sit on your TV console table via a base that props it up, the Bravia A1E can’t do any of that. What it does is sit on it’s screen and rests on a sort of kickstand. To get a clear picture of what I mean think of a desk photo frame; that’s how this bad boy rolls.

The kickstand of the Bravia A1E isn’t just propping it up, it is also where the TV’s processor and other components are stored. Since the stand is ”hidden” behind the display, it provides the illusion of a display just standing on it’s own.

The way it stands is not the only thing that is special about this new TV, it has an edge-to-edge display which means there are no speakers around the TV (and behind it). So instead of making a separate sound bar like the Xiaomi Mi TV 4, the Bravia A1E churns out sounds from the screen itself, a technology Sony calls Acoustic Surface. This way, the sound literally hits you in the face.

The display actually contains four actuators, two on the left side and another two on the right. The actuators need to be supplemented with a woofer and Sony has installed one into the kickstand. If you touch the display while watching a movie you can actually feel it vibrate, but surprisingly it doesn’t cause jitters on the screen.

Technical Specifications of Bravia A1E

The Bravia A1E has a 65-inch 4K HDR OLED display supplied by LG. It is equipped with Sony’s new Processor X1 Extreme engine. Sony says the Bravia A1E will also be available in 55-inch and 70-inch models.

During the unveiling, no price or date of release was mentioned. Although some people have speculated that it might be available for purchase by the end of February or Early March.

I am sure almost everyone reading this article would have heard of the big names like Samsung, LG, Panasonic and Sharp when it comes to large screen TVs. However, many may have never heard of a Chinese brand that has been in existence for a long time and is slowly gaining ground. Hisense is the company that we are talking about and according to Display Search data, this particular Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer now holds around 6.4% of the global TV market share, hence ranking fourth just behind Sony.

Back at CES 2015, Kazuo Hirai, the president of Sony had said that the company would be keeping a close eye on its TV and smartphone business. Both these divisions are not doing so well, thanks to the fierce competition . Latest reports suggests that the company is willing to sell the arm off or at least partner up with a suitable company to bring it back to profitability.

If Sony is really looking to sell its TV business, we won’t be surprised given that it had sold off its Viao PC business back in 2014 to a Japanese Investment Fund to focus on its mobile business. Now, since its Bravia TV business isn’t doing so well, the company could be looking for a potential buyer. And latest rumors suggests that China’s Hisense may be interested in the purchase.

Although Sony isn’t making much money with its TV business, it does have a lot of technology patents under its belt and its image processing technology is world renowned. So purchasing Sony would definitely boost the company’s market share and talent pool. Moreover, the take over will enable Hisense to compete with the top two companies namely Samsung and LG who have around 29% and 17% market share respectively. The top four brands Samsung, LG, Sony and Hisense add up to 56.3% of the total global shipment value.

Finally, Hisense has proved that its possible to release quality UHD TVs at a decent price over the past two years. In fact, Q1 2014 data showed that the company ranked second when it came to shipment value of UHD TVs. So, Hisense could bring Sony’s TV business back to profitability.

However, both the companies have not yet announced any plans for such a deal. So, until then these are all just speculations.
