After introducing the PlayStation 5 in late 2020, people have been discussing the possibility of an upgraded version called the PlayStation 5 Pro. Rumors suggest that this upgraded console might become available around the end of 2024. Some recent reports have shared a few details about the potential specifications of Sony‘s PlayStation 5 Pro.

In a new video from RedGamingTech, they mentioned that the PS5 Pro could continue using the AMD Ryzen Zen 2-based APU. The report suggests that the Zen 2-based CPU has 8 cores and 16 threads, which is the same as the regular PS5. RedGamingTech isn’t sure why Sony chose Zen 2 instead of AMD Ryzen Zen 4.  However, leaks indicated that the CPU clock speed would be bumped up to 4 GHz, which might be enough to reach the desired FPS target. This also means that this time around, the Pro model will be heavily focused on the GPU.

Furthermore, the PS5 Pro could arrive with an increased ROP (Render Output Unit), thanks to 30 active workgroup processors (60 compute units). For those unaware, the base model of PS5 has 64 ROPs present in the system, and the Pro version might arrive with 64, 96, and 128 ROPs. In general, it means more graphic performance is coming to the PS5 Pro. Lastly, the device is said to come with 16GB of GDDR5 memory.

Initial rumors hinted at Sony is working on the PlayStation 5 Pro, but it was later rumored that the company will likely work on the PS6 rather than an upgraded version of the PS5. However, it appears that the Japanese tech giant is still working on a PS5 Pro based on a new report from RedGamingTech.

The YouTuber states that the PlayStation 5 Pro will arrive with a notable upgrade in terms of hardware. According to the report, the PS5 Pro will feature an APU that has a 3.6GHz CPU and 2.7GHz GPU. In comparison, the PS5’s CPU has a 3.5GHz clock speed and a 2.23GHz GPU. RedGamingTech speculates that the PS5 Pro will be capable of outputting roughly 23.04TFLOPS.

With these updates, it is possible for this upcoming console to offer true 60fps gaming at 4K resolution or improved 8K gaming with ray-tracing. Keep in mind that this is just speculation so take this report with a pinch of salt for now and stick around for more updates regarding this matter.

Sony PlayStation 5, the current gaming console from the company, was released sometime back, and now the device is finally available for purchase without any issues, unlike earlier when it was difficult to get hands on the device.

Now, it appears that the Japanese company is looking to upgrade the gaming console by launching a mid-generation dubbed as Sony PlayStation 5 Pro or PS5 Pro.

According to the report from Insider Gaming, Sony will launch a PlayStation 5 with a detachable disc drive later this year as the company plans to cut down the cost of the current-generation gaming console.

Further, the report goes on to add that the company is also planning yet another model in the lineup, a Pro version of the current gaming console, which is expected to get launched in the latter part of 2024. It is also implied that Sony isn’t planning to launch the PlayStation 6 before 2028.

While there have been reports about new models of the PS5 gaming console that the company could launch in the coming months, Sony hasn’t officially confirmed anything. The company is planning to showcase something major at E3 2023, so there’s a possibility that the detachable disc drive version of the PlayStation 5 could get confirmed there.
