A Chinese tipster says the company is going to launch Xperia devices with <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/5g">5G</a> support in the future.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-320957" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Sony-Xperia-10-II-featured-810x298_c.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="810" height="298" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Sony-Xperia-10-II-featured-810x298_c.jpg 810w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Sony-Xperia-10-II-featured-810x298_c-300x110.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Sony-Xperia-10-II-featured-810x298_c-768x283.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Sony-Xperia-10-II-featured-810x298_c-696x256.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 810px) 100vw, 810px" /></p>
<p>The report comes from a Chinese <a href="https://androidnext.info/?p=7140">Tipster</a> going by the name Caybule(via <a href="https://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_10_ii_plus_with_snapdragon_720_reportedly_canceled-news-46132.php">GSMArena</a>)who says that <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/sony-xperia-10-ii-plus">Sony Xperia 10 II Plus</a>(or a 10 Plus II) is canceled. Apparently, Sony decided that all the new Xperia models in the future should get 5G support. And hence, it has canceled the idea of launching a mid-range device with <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-720G">Snapdragon 720</a>(Probably the 720G) SoC.</p>
<p>The report further says that if such Xperia existed, it would have popped up on the leak radar more by now. That&#8217;s understandable considering the Xperia 10 Plus got <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/02/25/sony-xperia-10-and-xperia-10-plus-bring-cinemawide-displays-and-dual-cameras-to-mwc-2019/">announced</a> way back in MWC 2019. And a successor, if true, was already long overdue.</p>
<p>Anyway, a device with model number XQ-AQ52/53, believed to be the Xperia 10 II Plus, was spotted on EEC. The certification has a registration date of July 31, 2020, but we haven&#8217;t heard anything regarding the device since then.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-352355" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/xperia-10-ii-plus-eec.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="640" height="254" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/xperia-10-ii-plus-eec.jpg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/xperia-10-ii-plus-eec-300x119.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></p>
<h4><strong>Leap to 5G on mid-range devices</strong></h4>
<p>In case you don&#8217;t know, Sony announced <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/02/24/sony-xperia-1-ii-xperia-10-ii-and-xperia-pro-launched-specifications-features-and-price/">Xperia 1 II and 10 II</a> back in Feb this year. The 10 II is sort of the next iteration to the Xperia 10 that launched along with the 10 Plus. Adding a 10 II Plus(10 Plus II) to the tally would have fitted perfectly with upgrades in Processor, Camera, and more. This is because the 10 Plus has a Snapdragon 636 SoC while the 10 II Plus was rumored to get a Snapdragon 7 series SoC.</p>
<p>Besides, the report says two other models with OEM IDs PM-134X-BV and PM-135X-BV have been found on Sony servers. It is likely the Xperia 1 III and 10 III that&#8217;s due for 2021 but nothing&#8217;s certain yet. That said, if the tipster is true, Sony&#8217;s mid-range Smartphones will support 5G connectivity from 2021. But we will have to wait for the official word to confirm it.</p>

<p>The third colour option which is a Mirror Lake Green variant is billed to be launched in Japan on October 30. However, the company has now revealed the device will go official earlier than in Japan in Taiwan on October 20 (<a href="https://www.eprice.com.tw/mobile/talk/4551/5576674/1/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">via</a>).</p>
<p>As stated, the model comes with a cool Mirror Lake Green colour option. Apart from the new colour variant, the Xperia 1 II variant will also come with 12GB of RAM onboard. For reference, the flagship is only available in 8GB RAM with the storage option split between 256GB for the international variant and 128GB for the Japanese variant. We expect this model to ship with 256GB storage.</p>
<p>Apart from the new paint job and larger RAM size, the other specifications are the same as those of the earlier version. To recall, the Xperia 1 II features a 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED screen that comes with a 21:9 aspect ratio, making it taller than other flagship phones available in the market. Under the hood, it is powered by Qualcomm <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-865">Snapdragon 865 SoC</a> and the storage is expandable up to 1TB.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/sony-xperia-1-II.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-348524" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/sony-xperia-1-II.jpg?x44794" alt="Sony Xperia 1 II" width="1200" height="1318" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/sony-xperia-1-II.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/sony-xperia-1-II-273x300.jpg 273w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/sony-xperia-1-II-768x844.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/sony-xperia-1-II-932x1024.jpg 932w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/sony-xperia-1-II-696x764.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/sony-xperia-1-II-1068x1173.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/sony-xperia-1-II-382x420.jpg 382w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></a></p>
<p>The phone features a triple-camera setup on the back which is developed by the engineers who made Sony A7 III and other popular mirrorless cameras. The phone’s camera setup includes three 12-megapixel sensors — wide, ultra-wide, and zoom.</p>
<p>The price in Taiwan for this 12GB option is yet to be announced but it will sell for JPY 124,000 (~$1170) in Japan.</p>

<p>For those unaware, Sony had unveiled its 2020 flagship, the Xperia 1 II, back in February. It features a 6.5 inch OLED HDR display with 3,840 x 1,644 resolution, 643ppi, a 90Hz refresh rate and even a 21:9 aspect ratio. The device was powered by Qualcomm&#8217;s Snapdragon 865 SoC along with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The device had a 3.5mm headphone jack and supported wired fast charging and wireless charging as well.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-334595 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/b8ffbf1bly1gh9050lszyj21hc0u0hdt.jpg?x44794" alt="Sony" width="690" height="388" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/b8ffbf1bly1gh9050lszyj21hc0u0hdt.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/b8ffbf1bly1gh9050lszyj21hc0u0hdt-300x169.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /></p>

<p>Similarly, the other possible launch candidate is the WH-1000XM4 series wireless headphones from Sony. These headphones featured a 40mm audio driver with a frequency response of up to 30kHz. On a single full charge, the device can last for up o 30 hours and could also be paired with two Bluetooth devices at the same time, with a quick switch with just a single button.</p>

<p>The highlight of the smartphone is its triple-camera setup on the back which is developed by the engineers who made Sony A7 III and other popular mirrorless cameras. The phone&#8217;s camera setup includes three 12-megapixel sensors &#8212; wide, ultra-wide, and zoom.</p>
<p>Sony says that the smartphone can shoot up to 20fps in burst mode with features like autofocus and auto-exposure enabled. This makes the phone an ideal candidate for capturing action and sports events.</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">According to a couple of pictures from Japan, the new </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/sony-xperia-1-ii/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sony Xperia 1 II</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> smartphone features camera sensors by both Sony and Samsung and comes with UFS 3.0 storage. Almost all Sony premium smartphones have used the company’s own sensors but this time the Japanese Electronics giant has taken a different approach.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The first picture shows us the list of camera sensors included in the device. The primary camera of 12MP 24mm with f/1.7 aperture uses the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/Sony"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sony </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">IMX557 sensor, which as per its model name could be an improved version of the Sony IMX555 sensor used by Samsung on its Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 Plus. Whereas, the 12MP 16mm ultra-wide camera with f/2.2 apertures uses the old tried and tested Sony IMX363 present on Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 3A series.</span></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-306830 size-medium" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/pdx203_group_black_withClock_Large.0-300x300.jpg?x44794" alt="Sony Xperia 1 II" width="300" height="300" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/pdx203_group_black_withClock_Large.0-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/pdx203_group_black_withClock_Large.0-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/pdx203_group_black_withClock_Large.0-420x420.jpg 420w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/pdx203_group_black_withClock_Large.0.jpg 500w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Further, the phone features a </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/Samsung"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Samsung </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">ISOCELL S5K3T2 sensor for its 12MP 70mm telephoto camera with f/2.4 aperture. Also, for the front 8MP 24mm f/2.0 selfie camera, the phone uses another Samsung made sensor with model number ISOCELL S5K4H7.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">On the other hand, the second picture confirms Xperia 1 II to come with UFS 3.0 storage, which is slightly slower than the new UFS 3.1 storage standard. Although this does not make much difference, a premium smartphone is always expected to have the latest tech.</span></p>

<p>As of right now, the price for the base Xperia is unknown in the US, however, the European pricing is 1,200 EUR while the Canadian price is likely to be around 1,200 CAD as well. Thus the base price for the Xperia 1 II is also likely to be just around 1,200 US Dollars or just under it. The latest Sony flagship series will only be available in certain countries or regions, including the US, Europe, and others, excluding Japan.</p>

The smartphone can be connected to the Sony Alpha via an HDMI connection so it can serve as a screen, outputting on the handset&#8217;s 4K OLED display.</p>

This will allow the smartphone to broadcast live at high video quality (reaching up to 5Gbps under perfect conditions). The Sony Xperia 1 II is expected to launch in the late Spring of 2020, with the Pro variant following soon after.</p>

<p>Recall that Sony announced the Xperia L4 last week but made no mention of the pricing and availability. The Sony Xperia L4 has now been revealed to also go on sale sometime in the second quarter of this year. The device will have a retail price of €200 and will be available Blue and Black colours.
