A device can be super fast and reach blazing speeds even with the heaviest apps, but if it provides a poor user experience under other points of view such as camera, display and battery life, then it may still be a poor device. According to a report by AnTuTu, Sony Xperia XZ Premium is the highest-rated Android smartphone in the world in May 2018.

Users rated it high at 96% and, despite it not being among the best-selling smartphones, it has reached the first place in the ranking. The element which contributed the most to this high rating seems to be the Motion Eye technology which allows the Sony Xperia XZ Premium to record in super slow motion. Another positive element is the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 which provides stunning performances in both every day use and heavy apps or multi-tasking.

In the second place of the ranking, there is Meizu Pro 6 Plus with 94%, while at the third and 4th place there are Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 and OnePlus 6. The ranking goes ahead with Samsung Galaxy S8+, Xiaomi Mi Max 2 and Huawei Mate 9, and it ends with Meizu X and Huawei Mate 9 Pro.

In its usual style, the Japanese tech giant will also release its main flagship for the year and that is the Xperia XZ2 Premium. The flagship may not drop until IFA 2018 in September but some details of the device have appeared online.

The details of the Xperia XZ2 Premium were scooped up from the code file for the H8188 developer and it shows some interesting specs. Among the specs on display is an 18:9 aspect ratio with a screen resolution of 4360 x 2160 pixels. The resolution will be on top of a 6.01-inch display screen although this isn’t among the leaked details. The screen is said to be an LCD screen.

One spectacular detail which was also leaked is the presence of the unreleased Android P operating system onboard the Xperia XZ2 Premium. Google has already announced that this year’s I/O Developer conference would hold on May 7. The tech giant will unveil its next-gen OS – Android P on that day. Apart from these specs, the Xperia XZ2 Premium is also expected to feature a Snapdragon 845 chip paired with 6GB of RAM. The device will still pack a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and double glass design. Another thing, we also expect a premium pricing as well. This is definitely not going to be cheap.

While most of the smartphone manufacturers are launching such devices, Sony is yet to embrace the new trends.

As per the reports, Sony is gearing up to launch a successor of Xperia XZ Premium smartphone, which is expected to comes with a bezel-less display. Recently, there were rumours that Sony is completely redesigning its smartphone lineup for the next year, and now more information regarding this design policy change is available.

An image has surfaced online which reveals the specifications of an upcoming smartphone from Sony with model number H8541. The smartphone in question is believed to be the next flagship device from the company.

The phone is said to feature a 5.7-inch 4K HDR TRILUMINOS display, which is the same technology used in Sony Xperia XZ1. For the protection of display, there is a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top. As per the report, the smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 835 processor, along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

Connectivity options on the device include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS + GLONASS and USB Type-C. The phone is also said to be IP65/68 certified, ensuring dust and water resistance.

However, what’s interesting is the phone’s measurements. The upcoming Sony H8541 measures 149 x 74 x 7.5mm, which is smaller and thinner than the current Xperia XZ Premium, measuring 156 x 77 x 7.9mm. The slimness of the phone is intact, even though the upcoming device boasts a much larger display.

The smartphone will be running Android 8.0 Oreo operating system out-of-the-box and will be powered by a larger 3,420mAh battery which also supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology for fast charging.

Read More: Xperia ZG Compact Pops Again with Snapdragon 810, 2 GB RAM on Geekbench

It will be interesting to see the new design of the smartphones from Sony next year. We believe it’s just a matter of few weeks before we start seeing leaks surrounding Sony’s upcoming smartphones.

We are assuming that this Sony H8541 smartphone will be launched in early 2018 given that the flagship devices after MWC 2018 are likely to be powered by the Snapdragon 845 processor.

If you own a unit, you should receive the update today or over the the next few days or weeks.

The update not only brings all the chocolatey goodness of Oreo but also new Sony-specific features. One is 3D creator which debuted with the Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact. What it does is let you scan objects and faces in 3D which you can then share or 3D print. Sony had earlier announced this will come with Oreo back in August.

Sony also promised some camera improvements. So there is Predictive Capture which automatically starts taking pictures of the subject when it detects a smile. It then lets you select the best among them. You also get autofocus burst for focusing and capturing moving objects.

Other features are aptX HD support for compatible earphones, improved audio, and app shortcuts.

The roll-out is said to be gradual – “…a phased process” and “timing and availability will vary by market and/or operator.” says Sony. Nevertheless, Sony still gets the award for being the first manufacturer to release an Android 8.0 Oreo update for its phones as well as the first manufacturer to release a phone with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

Good news for those who buy the new red variant of the Xperia XZ Premium is that they get Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

The phone was originally announced at MWC 2017 where it won the award for best new smartphone. While pre-orders for the phone has already started since March in the UK, the Xperia XZ Premium is just making its appearance in China.

Sony’s new flagship sports a 5.5-inch 4K display, a Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB UFS 2.1 storage. There is also a microSD card that supports up to 256GB cards.

For the optics, Sony has gone all out by including an IMX 400 sensor with Motion Eye that can shoot slow motion videos at 960fps. The front camera is a 13MP sensor with a f/2.0 aperture and a 22mm wide-angle lens and impressive low-light performance.

The Xperia XZ Premium runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box; has a front-mounted fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, and a 3230mAh battery.

All these specs come at a price, a high one for that matter. Sony is charging ¥5699 (∼$827) for the black, silver or gold version. The phone is already available for pre-order on Jingdong, Lynx and Sony’s official website.

There is also a special Spider-Man version that comes in a special box but the price wasn’t revealed. The price Sony is asking for the Xperia XZ Premium is more than double that of phones like the Xiaomi Mi 6 (¥2499/$363) and a lot higher than the price of the base version of the Huawei P10 (¥3788/$550). It remains to be seen if Sony can grab a significant part of the Chinese market with its new phone.
