As per new reports, the Japanese company is rolling out Android 9.0 Pie update on Sony Xperia XZ2. The OTA update is rolling out on many units of the device across the Globe. Earlier, it was expected that Sony will initially launch Android Pie update on Xperia XZ2 Premium, but it seems the Japanese company has some other plans for it.

The Android 9.0 Pie update for Xperia XZ2 weighs around 1 GB in size and includes October security patch. Along with the Android 9.0 Pie features and security fixes, it brings various new changes in the latest build. After the update, your device will get new firmware version of  52.0.A.3.27.

It is currently rolling out on the Xperia XZ2 and not on any other model of the device like XZ2 compact and XZ2 Premium. So, users who own Sony Xperia XZ2 can force the update by heading to the Settings menu. Sometimes, it may take time to reach each and every unit, as the update is rolling out in a phased manner.

Beside Xperia XZ2, Sony has promised to roll out Android 9.0 Pie update on devices such as Xperia XZ2 Premium, Xperia XZ1, Xperia XZ1 compact, Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XA2 Plus, Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra, and XZ2 compact.

Sony Mobile has today launched its current flagship smartphone in India — Sony Xperia XZ2, which was first introduced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain earlier this year along with Xperia XZ2 Compact.

The Xperia XZ2 is priced at Rs. 72,990 (approximately $1,062) in India and will be available in Liquid Black color. It will be available for purchase from 1st August through Sony Centre and select mobile stores across the nation.

The smartphone features a 5.7-inch Full HD+ HDR display with screen resolution of 2160 x 3840 pixels. It features TRILUMINOS and X-Reality, making it one of the best display on a flagship smartphone. The display is protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass 5 on top.

Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor along with Adreno 630 GPU. It packs 6GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage along with a microSD card slot support that enables users to further expand the phone’s storage capacity up to 400GB.

As for the optics, there’s a 19-megapixel rear camera with Exmor RS sensor, f/2.0 aperture, predictive capture, 5-axis stabilization, 4K video recording support and 960fps slow-motion video support. On the front side, it comes equipped with a 5-megapixel snapper with Exmor RS sensor, 23mm super wide-angle lens, and f/2.2 aperture.

The device comes with IP65/IP68 certification, ensuring water and dust resistance. Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz / 5GHz) MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS/ GLONASS, NFC, and USB 3.1 port. It also has stereo speakers with S-Force Front Surround, DSEE HX, and LDAC.

Running on Android 8.0 Oreo operating system out-of-the-box with the company’s own custom interface on top, the smartphone is fuelled by a 3,180mAh battery that also supports Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology.

There’s a Premium edition of the Xperia XZ2 which comes with dual rear cameras but the company has not launched this edition in India. Given the pricing of the standard version, we don’t expect that Sony plans to bring the Premium edition to India.

In March, Google had released the first developer preview of Android 9.0 P. Through the Google I/O 2018 event that began yesterday, Google confirmed the arrival of beta edition of Android P for smartphones from various brands like OnePlus, Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo, Nokia (HMD Global, Essential and Sony.

In the previous years, Google used to release the beta builds of new Android version first to its Pixel/Nexus devices. However, starting with this year, the latest Android P beta build will be not only available for the existing Pixel phones, but also for devices from popular smartphone OEMs. Well, all these phones are Project Treble compatible devices because of which they are entitled to receive the Android P beta along with the Pixel phones.

Some of the other features of the Android 9.0 P include manual screen rotation, gesture-based navigation, predicted actions and more.

Just one day after the official announcement of its Premium sibling, the older Sony Xperia XZ2 has been launched in China. The launch event of the most powerful flagship from the Japanese hi-tech giant took place at 751 D-fashion design Square, Beijing. The handset is actually up for the first Chinese pre-sale and the official price tag for China is 5,999 Yuan, which roughly translates into €772/$954. It is not the most expensive price tag, but it is far from being affordable.

In the event, the company highlighted all the main specs of the flagship once again. Sony Xperia XZ2 features a double-glass sandwich design with a 3D curvature on the back to enhance the grip and a metal frame in the middle. The phone measures 153 x 72 x 11.1 mm, while its weight is 198 grams. Both the glasses are protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and the phone is also waterproof and dustproof thanks to the IP65/68 standard. The display is an 18:9 panel (even though bezels are not so narrow) with a 5.7-inch size and a Full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 3840 pixels. It features TRILUMINOS, X-Reality and HDR technologies which make it one of the best display ever seen on a mobile phone.

The front panel is 2.5D-curved and even though there is a pair of thick bezels the fingerprint reader has been placed at the center of the backplate. On the hardware side, Sony Xperia XZ2 boasts an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. The main camera is a single sensor with a 19 MP resolution, while the front camera has a resolution of 5 MP. The battery has a capacity of 3180 mAh and, according to tests, it has been optimized in an excellent way by the Japanese company. It supports Quick Charge 3.0 for fast charging. The operating system installed is, obviously, Android 8.0 Oreo.

From what the camera app code is showing, Sony will release at least two tablets: one with an 8-inch display and a bigger one with a 10-inch panel, both with Android, obviously. These tablets are expected to come this summer and they may be announced alongside Sony Xperia XZ2 Pro, which is reportedly the most advanced smartphone of 2018 from this company. At the moment, there is no info about the specs sheet of the two tablets. We can only tell you that the Xperia Z4 Tablet, which was the last tablet released by the company, was a flagship device. So, at least one among Sony Xperia XZ2 Tablet 8.0 and 10 may rival the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 and the most powerful iPads.

We expect at least one of them to come with a Snapdragon 8xx SoC and an LTE variant with a SIM Card slot. In a market with smartphones getting even bigger displays, tablets are struggling to find a niche, especially the ones with Android. The number of tablets shipped has decreased a lot in the last years. That is why you can actually see fewer tablets launches by the best brands as compared to some years ago. This means that Sony Xperia XZ2 Tablet should not find a lot of competitors once it gets launched.

Sony went official with the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact today and before that even happened, the Xperia XZ1 had received a $205 slash in its price. The Sony Xperia XZ1 is presently on offer at Amazon and is now offered for $495. This is the biggest price cut the device is taking, having started at $699.99 when it was announced last year.

The Sony Xperia XZ1 first got unveiled at IFA 2017 sporting a 5.2-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 835, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, a 19MP “Motion Eye” camera capable of 960fps slow-motion footage. The device also packs a 13MP selfie-shooter and a disappointing 2,700mAh battery. There is also an IP68 water-resistance and dual front-facing speakers as well. Another Sony Xperia flagship has been spotted in the database of the benchmarking platform Geekbench. It is the second time that we see a flagship from the Japanese company on Geekbench with exactly the same specs, but its model number is different from the one of the last sighting. The device which has been spotted on Geekbench in late December was identified by the model number H8266 and it was rumored to be the Xperia XZ2. Instead, the new device spotted has the model number 90QB16R: we may be talking about the Xperia XZ2 Compact.

It has exactly the same hardware side, but the scores obtained on Geekbench is slightly lower than the one obtained by the alleged Sony Xperia XZ2. In single-core performances, the H8266 has scored 2393 points, while the 90QB16R has scored 2367 points. In multi-core, the score for the first variant was 8300, while 90QB16R scored 8255 points. Both the phone have the octa-core Snapdragon 845 chipset by Qualcomm, the most powerful released until now, together with the Exynos 9810 which will be in the European version of the Samsung Galaxy S9. The SD845 is paired with 4 GB of RAM: these specs confirm the recent leaks.

The operating system installed on both the handsets is Android 8.0 Oreo, and it is obvious saw that we are talking about Sony devices which are among the first to be released with the latest Android versions. Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact will officially be unveiled in a few days, at MWC 2018 which will be held in Barcelona. They are expected to come with 18:9 displays as Sony has promised to abandon its OmniBalance design for its flagships. The fingerprint reader will be probably placed on the rear side, unlike the predecessors, just like the new Xperia XA2 series. MWC 2018 will be held from February 26 to March 1 in Barcelona, and several important 2018 smartphones will be showcased at the trade show. World’s best smartphone brands will attend the event: Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, Sony, and LG are all going to be present at the event. But which will be the most interesting smartphone that we will see at Mobile World Congress? Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+

These two handsets are the ones which are catalyzing most of the attention for MWC 2018, and they are the main 2018 flagships by Samsung. Everyone is waiting for the Xiaomi Mi 7 to be showcased at MWC 2018, but it seems that it will be replaced by the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, an advanced version of the Mi Mix 2 and also the first intermediate “S” version between two generations. As every handset from this series, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S will be a flagship device. It will exhibit a very high screen-to-body ratio, even higher than the Mi Mix 2. Under the hood, it will sport a Snapdragon 845 chipset, the best in the Android market, paired with 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage. Leaked firmware files have also confirmed that its dual camera setup will include a Sony IMX363 sensor.

Huawei P20

Huawei P20 is another flagship phone that will be launched at MWC 2018. It will be offered in at least three models: Huawei P20, P20 Plus, and P20 Lite, with the third being a mid-range device. The first two, which will be the main Huawei flagships of H1 2018, will be the first device from the P series to sport a borderless display and an 18:9 or higher aspect ratio. Another distinctive thing will be a triple camera setup on the rear side which may feature a 5x hybrid zoom. The SoC will be the octa-core Kirin 970 with AI, and it should be paired with 6 or 8 GB of RAM depending on the variant that you will choose to buy. According to the latest leaks, even the Huawei P20 Lite will come with a bezel-less display and an iPhone X-like notch which will house the front camera and a small earpiece.

Nokia 9

Nokia 9 will be a flagship as well, the best flagship ever released by HMD Global. The company which acquired Nokia has already confirmed the event at MWC 2018, but not much is known about the specs of the upcoming flagship, and we do not even know for sure if it will really be showcased at the trade show. From what rumors and leaks suggest, this phone will come with an 18:9 display which will be curved at the sides. According to rumors, even though it will be a flagship, it will not sport a Snapdragon 845 SoC, instead it’ll feature Snapdragon 835 from 2017. Together with the high-end chipset, there should be 4 or 6 GB of RAM.

Sony Xperia XZ2 / XZ Pro

Sony will take advantage of MWC 2018 to launch its new flagships, just like the previous years. According to speculations, there may be two flagships: Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ Pro; the latter might even be called Sony Xperia XZ Premium 2 — it is still unclear. With these devices, Sony will definitely abandon its OmniBalance design to embrace borderless displays. One of these flagships is expected to have a 4K display with a 5.7-inch size, and a Snapdragon 845 processor under the hood. Just like every Sony flagship, you can expect outstanding camera performances, as well as an elegant design and a well-optimized software side.

Asus Zenfone 5

With the hashtag #BackTo5 (because an Asus Zenfone 5 device has already been launched in the past), Asus has confirmed the official announcement of the Asus Zenfone 5 line-up at MWC 2018. At the trade show in Barcelona, we should see at least three models from this series. The standard version should be a midrange or upper-midrange device, probably with a Qualcomm Snapdragon from the 6xx series. Besides the normal variant, we will see the Asus Zenfone 5 Lite which will be the cheaper one, and the Asus Zenfone 5 Max which will be more affordable and focused on the battery life.

LG V30s

LG is rumored to have started the design of the LG G7 from scratch, and this means that the company will not showcase the handset at MWC 2018. LG G7 is said to be replaced by a more advanced version of the LG V30, which should be called LG V30s or LG V30 Plus Alpha. This version will arrive with new AI features and it will be also focused on camera performances. It is rumored to come with a feature to control the camera via Google Assistant and with a technology called Vision AI which will be able to apply filters and correct the colors automatically.

Motorola Moto G6

Motorola Moto G6 is the upcoming line of mid-range phones by the Lenovo-owned U.S. company. It will be composed of Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus, and Moto G6 Play, and it will be official at MWC 2018. Several renders have surfaced about these devices, and they highlight a glass back, a dual camera setup and 18:9 displays for Moto G6 and G6 Plus. Moto G6 Play will be a more affordable entry-level variant of these two devices. Moto G6 Plus will sport Snapdragon 630 SoC on the hardware side, and a 3250 mAh battery. Its standard version will have a lower-end Snapdragon 450  and a 3000 mAh battery.

As we reported yesterday, Sony has written a dismissal request to FCC with “design change” as the primary reason. Seeing this, many started to wonder whether the company decided to totally change the aesthetics of the upcoming Sony Xperia XZ2 or Xperia XZ2 Pro, the alleged phone which will be unveiled soon at MWC 2018. Considering that one of these handsets is rumored to be the first phone with a 4K OLED display, some reports even said that the company decided to ditch this screen to opt for a classic LCD panel.

But last minute changes to flagship designs are unheard of. At least not in the usual scenario. And for a company like Sony, it’s a big risk to change a finalized smartphone design just a few days before its release at a major international event. So, it’s likely that the change could be just in the smartphone radio specs and not in its external design.

Roland Quandt, the famous leakster notes that “it (the change) is highly likely just about radio stuff, not about what the phone looks like”. So, don’t expect a change in the aesthetics but just in the internals. Obviously, there will be a change over the previous generation, but that’s definitely not a last moment thing. In fact, in at least one of the upcoming flagships, Sony is expected to abandon its OmniBalance design by releasing a device with an 18:9 display and narrow bezels.

Some schematic renders of the device have already surfaced, and they suggest the presence of thin bezels on the upper and lower part. On the lower part, there will still be space for a front speaker. The handset will come with NFC, and on the back side, there will be the first rear dual camera setup ever seen on a Sony flagship. Until now, the only Sony Xperia device which was released with a dual camera setup is the Xperia XA2 Ultra, which has the setup on the front side for better bokeh effect on selfies. Sony Xperia XZ2 or Xperia XZ2 Pro will probably come with the best Qualcomm SoC under the hood: the new Snapdragon 845 with AI included.

Sony, the Japan-based manufacturer which recently launched its entry-level and mid-range phones at the Consumer Electronics Show, is expected to launch a range of phone under its Sony Xperia branding this year.

While we have seen a lot of leaks surrounding Sony Xperia devices, a new phone from the company with the model number ID PY7-21831A has surfaced online as it passed through FCC. While FCC listing usually does not reveal anything about the phone, this one reveals that there won’t be a 3.5mm audio jack on this device.

If this turns out to be true, then this could be the first phone from the company to ditch the 3.5mm audio jack. As there’s very low possibility that Sony could drop the audio jack in a mid-range device, this upcoming Sony phone could be the Xperia flagship device.

The schematic image in the FCC listing reveals the use of a combined USB / headphone jack cable connection. Furthermore, the attached document also highlights the dimensions of the phone with 152.79 x 72.42 mm, and a 5.7-inch screen diagonal display. However, it is not yet known if the display carries the regular 16:9 aspect ratio of the trending 18:9 aspect ratio for full-screen displays.

Sony has confirmed that it is holding a press event at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. At the event, the company is expected to unveil its new devices, including the Xperia XZ Pro. According to the latest reports, the XZ Pro is expected to come with a 4K OLED display.
