Huawei, the Chinese tech giant, has now filed a new patent for a forthcoming technology that can identify respiratory infections by measuring blood oxygen or Sp02 levels. Based on blood oxygen levels, the technique can detect the existence of respiratory system infection. According to the relevant patent summary, this application implementation case provides a detection method and related equipment that is used with the first electronic equipment in order to work properly.

Many distinct testing operations are included in the testing method. This approach consists of the following steps: testing the first operation, responding to the first operation, and sending to the second electronic equipment. based on the first information, receive physiological parameter information given by the second electronic device; When the physiological parameter information is determined to meet the preset conditions, get audio information; determine the first physiological information based on the physiological parameter information and audio information; and display the first physiological information.

Blood oxygen saturation, respiratory frequency, body temperature, heart rate, and other physiological parameters are examples of data. This programme enables users to quickly detect the risk of infection in the respiratory system while ensuring the accuracy of the test findings and the equipment’s low power consumption. Last year, in December, Xiaomi had launched the Mi Watch Color as a watered-down variant of the Mi Watch. Today, as expected, the company has launched a new variant in its home market — Mi Watch Color Sports Edition.

The Xiaomi Mi Watch Color Sports Edition has been priced at 699 yuan, which is approximately $105. It will be available for pre-order from today and during the pre-sale period, it will be available for 649 yuan, which is about $97. The company will start shipping the device from 1st November.

The highlight of this newly announced smartwatch is that it comes with a SpO2 sensor for blood oxygen detection, a feature that was missing in the original model launched last year.

The smartwatch features a 1.39-inch HD AMOLED display that supports Always-On mode. It seems that the company has added 120 watch faces on the device and has added support for 117 sports mode to track fitness and health-related activities.

Apart from the SpO2 detector, there’s also an ultra-wide-range heart rate sensor and the device comes packed with a new high-end GPS chip to track movements. Along with Bluetooth 5.0, it also supports NFC for connectivity.

The device is powered by a 420mAh battery and the company claims that it can provide 16 days of usage on a single charge. The Xiaomi Mi Watch Color Sports Edition comes in three colors options — Black, Blue, and White while the straps come in six different colors.

Chinese tech company UMIDIGI has revealed via a tweet posted recently that it will launch a new smartwatch which has as its biggest feature a SpO2 monitor. The smartwatch will be called UMIDIGI UFit and isn’t just a smartwatch but a fitness and health tracker. The product will be launched on March 16.

In the face of the Coronavirus outbreak, the focus on health and fitness has increased. The blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) level is a vital indicator of a person’s health. This tracking the SpO2 level is also a new wearable tech metric getting adopted by more manufacturers. It might sound complicated but SpO2 can reveal conditions. For example, coronavirus and sleep apnea may cause low blood oxygen saturation.

The SpO2 monitor is already in some big-name wearables: Fitbit and Garmin already have an SpO2 sensor on most of their devices, and Huawei has jumped in too. UMIDIGI UFit is expected to also have a SpO2 sensor but it would be much more affordable, in line with UMIDIGI’s market strategy.

There’s still a lot we don’t know about the device, but there are a few things we can speculate from the teaser image. Besides the SpO2 monitoring function, it apparently has a curved screen and 2.5D glass. And there’s a side button to control the watch. We won’t have to wait long to learn more about the smartwatch since it goes official on March 16.
