However, there is another manufacturer that also makes processors for phones. That semiconductor manufacturer is China-based Spreadtrum. Though it changed its name to Unicom last year, its chips still go by Spreadtrum. According to XDA Developers, Alcatel and ZTE will launch two new phones powered by a Spreadtrum processor.

Alcatel 1s

Back at CES 2019, Alcatel announced the Alcatel 1c which is powered by the Spreadtrum SC7731E processor – a 1.3GHz quad-core chipset. This new phone is the Alcatel 1s codenamed “Faraday”. It is powered by the Spreadtrum SC9863A which has eight Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.6GHz and a PowerVR GE8322 GPU. The processor was announced last year as the first SoC with only Cortex-A55 processors.

The Alcatel 1s also has an unspecified 720 x 1440 display, 3GB of RAM, and will run Android Pie out of the box. The rest of the specs are unknown.

ZTE Blade A5 2019

The ZTE Blade A5 2019 will come with the same Spreadtrum SC9863A octa-core processor but with 1GB of RAM. It will also have an unspecified HD+ display and run Android Pie out of the box. With the small RAM, the Blade A5 will likely launch as an Android Go phone.

There is no information on when these phones will hit the market and how much they will sell for. However, we won’t be surprised if they show up at MWC 2019.

The SC9863 is clocked at 1.6GHz and is the first Spreadtrum chipset with support for AI applications thanks to its built-in AI processing unit. The chipset now handles AI tasks up to 6 times faster, supports real-time context detection and recognition, AR photography and video, and face recognition.

The Cortex A55 cores offer a 20% increase in performance compared to the Cortex-A53. The chipset supports 1080p playback, FHD+ displays, and also has dual ISPs that support dual cameras up to 16MP. The Spreadtrum SC9863 supports five-mode full band LTE Cat.7 and also has dual SIM dual-VoLTE and VoWiFi functionality.

There is no info on the manufacturers who have signed up to use the new chipset in their devices but with the number of smartphone manufacturers in China alone, Spreadtrum is sure of getting clients.

Ahead of its launch, the device has appeared on Geekbench and in doing so revealed a few specs.

The Meizu M6T runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat and has 2GB of RAM. It is powered by the SC9850, a chipset from Spreadtrum. The SoC is clocked at 1.3GHz and has 4-cores.

According to the info on Spreadtrum’s website, the SC9850 is a 28nm chipset. It has a Mali 820MP1 GPU and supports 1080p video playback, a single 13MP sensor, and an HD+ panel.

Using the above parameters, we have a rough idea of the other specs of the Meizu M6T. The main camera won’t be more than 13MP and the display will max out at 720p. We also expect it to come in 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM and 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM variants.

In terms of performance, the Meizu M6T scored 460 points in the single-core test and 1284 points in the multi-core test. This is a bit low when compared to the scores of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A which is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 425 and is also a 28nm chip.

READ MORE: Meizu and National Geographic collaborate to demonstrate Meizu’s 15 Series camera capabilities

So if the Meizu M6T can’t even surpass the Redmi Note 5A in terms of performance, it can’t be termed a Redmi S2 killer since the S2 uses a more powerful processor. However, it appears Meizu will be marketing only its camera prowess and I’m sure there is a market for such a phone.

However, the company had not revealed which processor powers the device.

Now, Spreadtrum Communications — a China-based semiconductor company has revealed that the Nokia 3310 4G is powered by Spreadtrum SC9820 chipset. This is the same chipset that powers the Lava Connect M1 4G feature phone that was launched in India last year.

The chipset is claimed to be the world’s first 4G feature phone chipset. Along with 4G VoLTE HD voice and video calling, the chipset supports the display having FWVGA screen resolution, 5-megapixel camera, and 720p HD video playback.

The SC9820 comes with dual-core ARM A7 processor clocked at 1.2GHz and ARM Mali 400 graphics processor for 3D graphics acceleration. In terms of network connectivity, it supports TDD-LTE, FDD-LTE, TD-SCDMA, and GSM four-mode.

In terms of appearance, the Nokia 3310 4G resembles the original Nokia 3310 (2017) that was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February last year. It measures 117 x 52.4 x 13.35 mm and it weighs 88.1 grams.

The phone features a 2.4-inch display that comes with 320 x 240 pixels screen resolution. It comes with 256MB RAM and a native storage capacity of 512MB. It also supports storage expansion up to 64GB using a microSD card.

The device also comes equipped with an LED enabled 2-megapixel snapper on its back panel. Connectivity features available on the Nokia 3310 4G include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, micro USB, Bluetooth 4.0, and 3.5mm audio jack.

It is fueled by a 1,200mAh battery that offers 5 hours of talk time on 4G VoLTE and 12 days of standby time on 4G VoLTE. The phone will be available in two color choices — Fresh Blue and Dark Black.
