<p>According to <a href="https://thelec.net/news/articleView.html?idxno=4087" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>TheElec</em></a>, the South Korean tech giant has a large stockpile of smartphones that have reached 50 million in number. Furthermore, sources have claimed that the Galaxy A series made up a large portion of smartphones that is in this inventory. These are being readied to be sold, as per one of the source. Samsung is planning on shipping around 270 million units of smartphones in this year. So, 50 million would mean that the large inventory accounts for around 18 percent of its shipment goals.</p>
<p>The report further added that a more balanced figure would&#8217;ve been around 10 percent, so the figure basically implies that the brand is currently facing low demand for its smartphones. Just in the month from January to February 2022, the company had produced around 20 million units of smartphones. However, this figure halved to 10 million units in May. In other words, this drop in production is probably due to the existing large stockpile of handsets that have not been sold yet.</p>
<figure id="attachment_461796" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-461796" style="width: 816px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-461796 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Screenshot-2022-05-23-135850.png?x10805" alt="Samsung" width="816" height="434" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Screenshot-2022-05-23-135850.png 816w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Screenshot-2022-05-23-135850-300x160.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Screenshot-2022-05-23-135850-768x408.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Screenshot-2022-05-23-135850-696x370.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Screenshot-2022-05-23-135850-790x420.png 790w" sizes="(max-width: 816px) 100vw, 816px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-461796" class="wp-caption-text">Galaxy S22 Ultra</figcaption></figure>
<p>As of right now, the demand for smartphones have dipped across all segments. There have been multiple reasons for this including lockdowns in China due to the Coronavirus, global economic state, surge in raw materials, the ongoing invasion of Russia into Ukraine, among others. Thus, Samsung has also lowered its component orders from its supports by around 30 to 70 percent from April to May.</p>

<p>According to <a href="http://www.thelec.net/news/articleView.html?idxno=1632" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>TheElec</em> </a>report, this is the first official confirmation from the Chinese tech giant that it has stocked up semiconductors last year to better prepare for the US sanctions. For those unaware, the recent <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/17/us-reinforces-restrictions-on-huaweis-access-to-chips-and-other-tech/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reinforcements of regulations against the company</a> have taken effect as of 15th September 2020. Guo Ping also said that the ban made it very difficult for Huawei, as the company used millions of semiconductors a year for its smartphone and telecom operations.</p>

<p>The senior executive mentioned that the company is looking at methods to overcome its current predicament. Notably, the Chairman said that the company would gladly opt for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Qualcomm</a> chips if it received approval from the US. Despite being a big consumer electronics brand, Huawei is also a major telecom equipment and infrastructure provider. In China, the company has worked to build multiple base stations for the latest 5G networking standards as well. The company also recently revealed that it had reached <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/09/china-reaches-96-of-500000-5g-base-stations/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">96 percent of its 500,000 5G base station</a> target for 2020.</p>

<p>The senior executive shared a post on the Chinese microblogging website to keep confidence in the launch event due to the on going events in China. For those unaware, China was recently hit with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/coronavirus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Coronavirus</a> outbreak which is now being referred to as a global pandemic. The infection had originated from Wuhan prompting the government to quarantine the city and shut down areas of high population density like offices and factories.</p>
<figure id="attachment_306834" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-306834" style="width: 421px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-306834 " src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Redmi-K30-Pro-poster.jpg?x10805" alt="Redmi" width="421" height="562" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-306834" class="wp-caption-text">Redmi K30 Pro Launch event</figcaption></figure>
<p>This caused numerous electronics brands like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/brand/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Apple</a>, Xiaomi, and more to face troubles keeping up with demand, since the supply was cut short. Even the tertiary companies where materials were sourced from were facing troubles. This led to even more issues during the resumption of production. But now, it seems like Redmi is staying strong with a healthy pre supply of the Redmi K30 Pro units in China.</p>

<p>The Redmi K30 Pro will be the latest flagship entry from the company and arrive with top notch specs like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm-snapdragon-865/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Qualcomm&#8217;s Snapdragon 865 SoC</a>, LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.0 flash storage. Furthermore, the launch event of the Redmi K30 Pro had also been teased to feature more than just a smartphone launch, according to Lu Weibing. While the US ban has had<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/22/things-get-worse-as-arm-arm-holdings-suspends-business-with-huawei/"> fairly harrowing effects</a> on the company, they&#8217;ve also been prepared for it and have take countermeasures against it. One of these countermeasures apparently was to buy enough chip stocks to last them an entire year.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-255387 size-large" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/huawei-logo-1024x569-1024x569.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei" width="696" height="387" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/huawei-logo-1024x569.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/huawei-logo-1024x569-300x167.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/huawei-logo-1024x569-768x427.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/huawei-logo-1024x569-696x387.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/huawei-logo-1024x569-756x420.jpg 756w" sizes="(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/huawei/">Huawei</a> had informed its global suppliers six months ago that it wanted to build up a stock of crucial components that would last for up to a year, in preparation for trade war uncertainties. The Chinese giant was also making moves to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/22/huawei-works-with-aptoide-to-replace-play-store/">secure new sources that wouldn’t be affected by a US embargo</a>. Another option in the works is to ramp up efforts at becoming more self-reliant, which <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/21/huaweis-own-os-is-coming-in-fall-features-android-app-compatibility/">may bear fruit fairly soon</a>.</p>
<p>Plans cut across several key components, extending beyond chips to include passive components and optical parts. For some components that are subject to higher risks of export controls, Huawei has stockpiled six months’ to more than a year’s worth of supply, while holding at least three months’ worth of less crucial ones, the sources said.</p>
<p>Analysts claim that the impact of Huawei&#8217;s absence from the chip market will be harder to estimate after this quarter. That is because the company could find itself doing business as usual if the U.S. and China agree to a new trade pact; just the other day, President Donald Trump said that the <a href="https://www.androidauthority.com/huawei-trump-trade-deal-dangerous-990118/">U.S. might use the &#8220;dangerous&#8221; Huawei as a bargaining chip</a> to extract better terms from China during future trade negotiations.</p>
<div>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-255388 size-large" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/huawei-logo-1024x702.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="696" height="477" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/huawei-logo-1024x702.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/huawei-logo-300x206.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/huawei-logo-768x526.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/huawei-logo-100x70.jpg 100w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/huawei-logo-218x150.jpg 218w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/huawei-logo-696x477.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/huawei-logo-1068x732.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/huawei-logo-613x420.jpg 613w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/huawei-logo-1920x1316.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>

</ul>
<p>In addition, Huawei which is currently the world’s second-largest smartphone vendor reportedly started certifying more chips, optical components, camera-related technologies and other parts suppliers based outside the US at the beginning of this year. The US may also try to get allies to get companies domiciled in their countries to ban sales of components to Huawei.</p>
<div>What Huawei has to be concerned with is what it will do in the future after using up all of the components it has stockpiled. If the ban doesn&#8217;t get lifted, Huawei WILL eventually run out of parts to use, and when that happens, things will be pretty grim for the company. This is just another battlefield in the lingering US-China Trade war, though we hope Huawei comes out of this one OK.</div>
