India is one of the largest smartphone markets in the world and naturally, most companies are trying to get as much market share as they possibly can. And the market is also showing positive growth.

According to a new report from Strategy Analytics, the Indian smartphone shipments grew 3 percent annually to 35.6 million units in Q2 2019. It also revealed that Xiaomi remains the leading brand, followed by Samsung.

Xiaomi captured around 28.7 percent market share while Samsung is trying to close the gap for the pole position, having a 26.3 percent market share. Vivo and Oppo grabbed the third and fourth spot with a market share of 11 percent and 8.1 percent respectively.

Realme, which entered the smartphone business last year only, has managed to fix its position at the fifth spot with a 7.9 percent market share, which is quite impressive. Other brands accounted for 18.1 percent market share.

Editor’s Pick: After Redmi K20 Pro, now the Lenovo Z6 Pro gets a new update that brings 60 fps HDR+ support for Game for Peace

As for the shipments, Xiaomi shipped 10.2 million units in Q2 2019 while Samsung managed to ship 9.4 million units. Vivo, Oppo, and Realme shipped 3.9, 2.9, and 2.8 million smartphones respectively.

The Indian smartphone market is currently being dominated by the Chinese companies, given that four out of the top five brands are from China, except for Samsung, which is based in South Korea.

The local smartphone brands such as Micromax and Lava have nearly been wiped out of the market, having a collective market share of less than 3 percent. It’s highly unlikely that we’ll see these companies fight for the market share this year or in the near future.

Up Next: Huawei Nova 5i Pro with a punch-hole screen, quad rear cameras, Kirin 810 chipset, and 2,199 Yuan (~$319) price tag goes official
