OPPO just gave us a very big reason to the get the OPPO R17 Pro that was announced a few minutes ago! The OPPO R17 Pro will come with support for the incredibly quick Super VOOC fast charging that was so far exclusive to the incredibly expensive OPPO Find X Lamborghini edition.

Back when the OPPO Find X was announced, we hoped that we would see Super VOOC in the company’s first true flagship in a couple of years. We did get this tech but it was unfortunately limited to the Find X Lamborghini edition. Considering how this particular special edition costs EUR 1,699 (~$1970), it was out of the reach of regular smartphone users. But now, with Super VOOC on the OPPO R17 Pro, incredibly fast charging just got a lot cheaper for customers.

In case you are wondering why this is such a big deal, then know that Super VOOC can charge your phone to nearly 40% in just 10 minutes! Thats as fast as you can get on a smartphone in 2018. Imagine you have like 10% charge before you head to the office. By the time you have your breakfast, the phone will be up to 50%! In day to day usage, it’ll make a big difference.

The Super VOOC fast charging tech is safe as well. TUV Rheinland has given safety certification to this fast charging technology and the company was quick to explain that the tech has undergone rigorous battery and charging cycle test to ensure that its safe for daily use. Considering how Super VOOC boosts the charging power to a massive 50W (10V 5A), this certification was indeed necessary to confirm its safe for use.

When OPPO unveiled the Find X, it also announced a Lamborghini Edition. Apart from the Lamborghini branding, the special edition also comes with OPPO’s Super VOOC charging technology which has a power rating of 50W (10V/5A). It also has a smaller 3400mAh battery (which is actually two 1700mAh batteries according to OPPO) and comes with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. But there is a third variant- the Find X Super Flash Edition.

Apparently, the Find X Super Flash Edition supports Super VOOC charge like the Lamborghini Edition. It is also the variant that comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Although OPPO announced it at the launch in China, it is not yet on sale and even just got its 3C certification.

The 3C certification page shows it has the model number PAHM00 which is similar to the regular variant’s PAFM00 and PAFT00 model numbers. It also shows that its charger supports 10V 5A max for Super VOOC charge.

The OPPO Find X Super Flash Edition is expected to go on sale next month. It will cost ¥5999 (~$885) and be available in the same colors as the regular variant.

VOOC is currently the charging technology used in OPPO phones. Super VOOC is faster – allowing you charge a 2500mAh battery in just 15 minutes or up to 45% in just 5 minutes!

The charging technology was first showcased at MWC 2016 and is reported to have been improved upon by OPPO.

Super VOOC isn’t the only technology OPPO has that hasn’t appeared in any phone yet. At last year’s MWC, it showcased a new camera technology called 5X Precision Optical Zoom.

If the Find 9 comes with both new features, OPPO is most likely going to win big this year. But we trust that one or both technologies will eventually be available to its sister companies – OnePlus and Vivo.
