It can power up users’ smartphones, laptops, tablets, and drones as well. It has multiple ports like 1 x USB-A port, 1 x USB-C port, and even a built-in USB-C cable.

OPPO is gearing up to introduce a new generation of fast charging technology with the unveiling of a 120W SUPERVOOC flash charger. This exciting development comes after the charger, sporting model number VCBBOAAH / A788-110110U-AU1, received certification from Australia’s Electrical Regulatory Authorities Council (ERAC).

120W SUPERVOOC Charger Certification Details

The certification details reveal that the VCBBOAAH charger, manufactured by Dongguan Aohai Technology, is capable of delivering a maximum output of 120W, achieved through an 11V 11A configuration. It also supports a wide range of input voltages, from 200-240V 50/60Hz, which aligns with Australia’s power supply specifications.

The voltage and frequency specifications of 200-240V 50/60Hz are compatible with many regions around the world, especially in Europe, Asia, Australia, and parts of Africa. However, it is not universally compatible across all regions. For example, the standard power supply in North America (the United States and Canada) is typically 120V at 60Hz. Similarly, Japan primarily uses 100V at either 50Hz or 60Hz, depending on the region.

OnePlus and OPPO’s recent devices like the OnePlus 12, OnePlus Ace 3, Find X7, and X7 Ultra all feature the 100W SUPERVOOC wired flash charging. The current 100W SUPERVOOC charger, available in China, operates at a maximum output of 11V 9.1A 100W under 200-240V voltage. This translates to a slight decrease in power output (11V 7.3A 80W) when used under 100-130V voltage conditions.

While the 120W charger hasn’t been officially linked to any specific devices yet. It is expected to play a crucial role in powering future OPPO, OnePlus smartphones, offering users a significant upgrade in charging speeds compared to current offerings.

The Chinese smartphone maker’s upcoming smartphone carries the RMX3780 model number, as per the FCC listing. Unfortunately, the certification does not reveal any finer details like its specifications or pricing, but it does offer us some details regarding this device. The upcoming Realme smartphone will feature large a 5,000mAh battery pack (rated 4,890mAh) that will support the company’s proprietary SuperVOOC fast charging.

Furthermore, the database also reveals that the mysterious device will weigh 192 grams and will measure 165.66 x 75.98 x 8.09mm in dimensions. It will also support 5G networking along with Bluetooth and WiFi support. The FCC certification confirms that the device will also run on Android OS-based RealmeUI 4.0 out of the box. This is all the information revealed by the certification website. OPPO is reportedly working on a new fast-charging solution that could match the 300W charging tech announced by Redmi back in February. According to DigitalChatStation, a reliable tipster, the new solution is still in development and will be paired with a 4,450mAh battery (4,600mAh battery typical). If launched, this new SuperVOOC solution will be the fastest smartphone charger in the market, alongside Redmi’s 300W Immortal Second Charger.

Fast charging technology is not just about the speed of charging but also about how efficiently it regulates heat and manages current. OPPO’s SuperVOOC solution is expected to retain the same speed at least until the battery reaches 80 percent, unlike Redmi’s 300W charging solution that could only touch 290W for about 3 seconds. While the new SuperVOOC solution’s release date is yet to be announced, it is expected to break covers before the end of this year.

Currently, the fastest commercially available phone in the world is the Realme GT 3, which boasts a 240W charging rate. However, Infinix recently launched a new 260W All-Round FastCharge charging system, which is currently the second-fastest in the market. In addition, Infinix also introduced a 110W Wireless All-Round FastCharge solution. OPPO’s new fast-charging solution could be a game-changer in the market, especially if it manages to maintain its speed until the battery reaches full capacity.

Realme will be launching its highly awaited flagship killer, the Realme GT Neo 5 SE in China next Tuesday, April 3rd. And it looks like the brand is much confident in the battery endurance of its upcoming smartphone because, in the latest teaser shared by an executive of the company, the Realme GT Neo 5 SE is claimed to offer 48 hours of battery life for its users.

Chase Xu, CEO of Realme China, posted on his social media this week, teasing that the upcoming Realme GT Neo 5 SE is challenging for a new record in the flagship smartphone market – 48 hours of continuous smartphone use on a full charge. Chase shared that Realme has developed and integrated 3 “black magic technologies” in-house to achieve the record.

The first ingredient is a large 5500mAh battery. Chase shared that the company wanted to fit the biggest battery possible into the phone whilst still keeping the phone relatively lightweight and slim, and its engineers decided that 5500 mAh was the best balance of both worlds. 

The second ingredient is the company’s industry-leading “SUPERVOOC S” power management silicon chip. The new silicon enables power efficiency numbers of near 100%, specifically 99.5%, meaning little power loss to its surroundings. The new silicon also enables 100W SUPERVOOC charging, alongside better charging heat dissipation and improved charging safety features.

The last ingredient is Realme’s AI-powered smart power-saving software algorithm. The software algorithm adapts to the user’s usage pattern, to improve upon the power efficiency of each task the user performs. To illustrate, Chase likens the battery to a large water tank, and that to ensure a longer continuous supply of water from the tank, one must control the tap of the water tank.

On a closing note, Chase mentions that the Realme GT Neo 5 SE is a lightweight smartphone built for users who want their phone to last longer with its 5500 mAh and 100W SUPERVOOC charging that fully charges the smartphone in under an hour.

As per official teasers, the Realme GT Neo 5 SE is already confirmed to be powered by the highly acclaimed premium-grade SoC – the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 by Qualcomm.

Earlier this week, OPPO revealed a bunch of new developments in its Flash charging technology at the OPPO Flash Charge Open Day. As charging solutions are reaching insane levels of power output, the focus is slowly shifting from sheer speed to safety and wider use case scenarios. At the event, the company revealed its progress in developing charging solutions for smartphones as well as other products.

Here are the key takeaways from the OPPO Flash Charge Open Day event.

1. Five-Fold Safety Protection System

OPPO explains how it uses a five-fold protection system to ensure its charging technology remains safe even at high levels of charging output.

The brand says that its Flash Charging tech employs five different safety measures, which include:

• A new Fuse with lower Impedance
  OPPO has incorporated a new fuse in its Flash Charging system which features lower impedance. The fuse will blow in case of abnormal electricity supply to the battery while bringing notable improvements in the efficiency and safety of the charging system as compared to its previous generation.
• Efficient Gallium Nitride (GaN) Switches
  OPPO’s Flash Charging technology uses GaN switches (to manage the flow of electricity), replacing the usual MOSFET switches. This change brings in two major benefits,
  in space as well as safety. One GaN switch can replace two series MOSFET switches, so it saves space. Further, thanks to GaN’s lower impedance and the ability to resist higher voltages, it improves the overall charging efficiency while being reliable and safe.
• Internal series bi-cell design
  OPPO’s latest Flash Charging technology relies on a new internal series bi-cell design. Essentially, two battery cells are placed inside one battery casing, separated by special molecular material. These battery cells operate independently while allowing voltage to be doubled within a smaller space than the previous series bi-cell battery design.
• Battery Safety Detection Chip
  The new Battery Safety Detection chip works with OPPO’s AI algorithm to detect significant problems within the battery. It can also remove potentially false warnings and can accurately warn users if the battery has some serious issues.
• Composite Current Collector
  OPPO’s Flash Charging technology uses a new battery that replaces the traditional aluminum anode with a special composite current collector. This composite collector is extremely malleable and significantly reduces the chances of a short circuit in case of external damage.
  According to OPPO’s internal tests, the new battery passes puncture and collision tests with a 100% success rate.

2. Flash Charging is now Smart

Flash charging is known for its fast charging output, but the latest version of this technology is smarter than before. This change brings a better balance between charging speed and battery life. The brand has finally managed to monitor battery conditions in real-time which allows it to adjust the charging power based on the requirement of the device.

For example, if you are charging your device overnight, the Flash Charging technology will switch to ‘relax mode’, wherein it will slowly charge the phone over the course of the night to extend the battery life. OPPO says that while ensuring 65W SuperVOOC, this technology can help retain 80% of the battery’s capacity even after 1500 charging cycles.

It can also work in the opposite use case scenario. Suppose you want to head out urgently, this Smart Charging system can speed up the charging output by up to 20%, reducing the time taken to charge a 4500mAh battery from 36 minutes to just 30 minutes.

Further, if you are charging the phone while using it, this same technology will ensure that the phone doesn’t overheat, optimizing the balance between charging temperature and charging speed in real-time.

3. Extreme Charging Technology for Safe Charging in Freezing Situations

Lithium-ion batteries don’t like extremely cold environments. But OPPO’s flash charging technology aims to enable fast charging even in such extreme conditions by allowing the battery to generate its own heat.

4. OPPO announces The Flash Initiative – Brings VOOC to new products

It’s been seven years since OPPO debuted its Flash Charging technology in the market. Now, the brand is looking to expand its super-fast charging technology to new categories. In this regard, it has launched a new project, The Flash Initiative wherein it will bring its VOOC charging technology to categories like automobiles, and public spaces, through patent licensing. This will allow other manufacturers to use OPPO’s Flash Charging technology in their own products in the future.

Back in July, OPPO announced 125W flash charge technology. At the very same event, the Chinese smartphone maker also unveiled two new high-speed Gallium Nitride (GaN) chargers namely 50W mini SuperVOOC and 110W mini flash charger. Now, after four months, the company has finally revealed the availability of the former charger.

The OPPO 50W mini SuperVOOC charger is the smallest fast charger from the brand. It is also slimmer than any other 50W chargers available in the market with a mere 1.05cm thickness.

This charger not only supports SuperVOOC but also other charging protocols like 27W USB PD (Power Delivery) and 50W USB PD with PPS (Programmable Power Supply) to name a few.

Unfortunately, though OPPO has announced the availability of this charger, it is yet to release its entire specifications. Hence, we are still not sure of many things. Anyway, we expect the company to reveal more things about its mini fast charger, including the price before its first sale on December 12 in China.

As of now, we are only sure of the charger’s certain supported charging protocols, in addition to its dimensions and weight, which happens to be 82.2 x 39 x 10.05mm and 60g respectively. In a nutshell, it is small as a biscuit, as per the brand.

As we are heading towards a completely digitized society, smartphones and other gadgets are at the forefront of connecting us to the world. Consequently, our energy requirement is increasing every year, with portable devices like smartphones, tablets, and laptops becoming increasingly thin but more powerful than ever before. But unfortunately, we haven’t been able to achieve a breakthrough in battery density technology to satisfy our growing requirement. 

So what’s the workaround to this obstacle?

One way of meeting the growing energy needs of portable devices is to develop fast charging technology that tops up a battery in minutes. 

When it comes to smartphones, OPPO leads the market with its innovative VOOC charging technology. And earlier this month, the company unveiled the world’s fastest wired charging solution for smartphones – the 125W Flash Charge technology. It can charge a 4000mAh battery in just 20 minutes. 

This is a significant development in smartphone charging technology, doubling charging speeds to never before seen values. 

But how safe is it to pump in such high wattage into your compact smartphone battery? We have already seen laptops like the Dell XPS 15 charge at up to 130W. However, doing the same on an exceptionally compact battery raises a lot of questions.  

So I decided to ask OPPO about 125W flash charging and how safe it is for the device and the end consumer. 

When you are charging a 4000mAh battery at 125W, essentially topping it up to 100% in just 20 minutes, two primary questions come to your mind. 

1. Won’t charging at such high wattage generate a lot of heat, thereby compromising safety?

2. Won’t this also degrade my battery significantly?

Before we find answers to these two questions, it’s crucial to understand how OPPO’s 125W flash charging works. 

OPPO 125W Flash Charging Explained

OPPO’s 125W flash charging is made possible with the help of many proprietary components and technologies working together in synergy. 

To make things simple, here are some of the specialized components that allow the smartphone battery to flash charge at 125W. 

• A Charger that can output power at 20V 6.25A (125W)
• A thick and specialized cable that can support current up to 6.25A
• A USB Type-C connector that supports more than 5A current (in this case 6.25A)
• Efficient Charge Pumps that can adjust the voltage to match the phone’s battery specifications
• Superior quality batteries in a bi-cell design that can sustain charging and discharging at 12.5A (6C)
• A specially customized intelligent control chip that controls the voltage, current, and temperature
• A battery safety monitoring chip to monitor in real-time, whether the battery in the mobile phone is damaged by external forces when in use
• 10 new temperature sensors, in addition to the existing four sensors (three on the phone and one on the charger)
• 128-bit encryption owned by OPPO while also following TBS protocols
•  VCU intelligent control chip, MCU Charge management chip, AC/DC control chip, and a custom protocol handshake chip. 

When all these components come together, your smartphone can charge at up to 125W.

Here’s a simplified version of how OPPO’s 125W Flash Charging Works

When you connect OPPO’s 125W charger to your phone via USB-C, the charger outputs power at 20V and 6.25A. This power is sent to the phone via a customized USB-C port that supports current over 6A. The power from the USB-C port is then transferred to the three charge pumps. However, the bi-cell batteries inside the phone do not support such high voltage. So the three charge pumps work together (along with the other microcontroller chips) to bring down the voltage to 10V and increase the amperage to 12.5A. Thus each of the three charge pumps outputs 42W (so 125W in total) of power to the battery with an impressive efficiency of 98%. OPPO claims that using three charge pumps significantly improves efficiency and reduces heat generation. Remember that heat is bad for your battery, and the less heat generated, the better it is for your phone. 

An essential component that makes fast charging at such a high current possible is the quality of the batteries. OPPO’s 125W flash charging technology works because the 6C batteries can charge at 12A. 

The C-rating of a battery is the ratio of the maximum current draw and the battery capacity. Here, the 2000mAh ( equivalent to 2Ah) battery has a 6C rating. This means that the bi-cell batteries can charge effectively at a high current of 12.5A. But this would also mean that these batteries discharge at such a high rate, which is why OPPO added another charge pump to slow down the discharging rate. So in total, OPPO’s 125W flash charging technology utilizes four charge pumps, three for controlling the power coming into the phone via the charger and one for controlling the discharge rate.

OPPO 125W Flash Charging – How Safe Is It?

Now that we have got a basic idea of how OPPO’s new flash charging works, let’s come back to the questions. 

Won’t charging at such high wattage generate a lot of heat and thereby compromise safety?

Heat is an inevitable byproduct of fast charging. Every smartphone battery has internal resistance, and when you pump in 125W of power during the charging process, the resistance generates heat. 

But OPPO explained that they have taken additional measures to monitor and address this issue. 

• OPPO says that the three charge pumps that share the load current being sent to the battery makes for an extremely efficient solution (98% conversion efficiency) for fast charging at such high power. This also helps dissipate heat more effectively, ensuring the battery and the phone’s safety. 
• OPPO’s flash charging technology also utilizes 6C batteries, which are of superior quality than the ones used in its 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 (3C batteries). The bi-cell 6C batteries have lower internal resistance and support 12.5A current charging. This allows charging the batteries at such high power without generating a large amount of heat. 
• The bi-cell batteries’ unique parallel multi-tab structure also plays a significant role in reducing internal resistance and effectively lowering heat production during fast charging. 
• Monitoring is also a significant part of ensuring the safety of the device and the user during fast charging. In this regard, OPPO explains that its 125W flash charging technology comes with 10 additional temperature sensors. Yes, I said additional because there are already four temperature sensors (three on the phone and one on the charger) in SuperVOOC 2.0 (65W). But for 125W flash charging, the company installed 10 more temperature sensors in the battery tabs, BTB, and power supply motherboard junctions to monitor the charging status in real-time.
• OPPO claims that with such high levels of monitoring, the smartphone body temperature will never exceed 40℃ during the flash charging process when the screen is off. 
• But if the phone is in use, for example, if the user is playing video games while charging, the technology is smart enough to adjust the power to avoid overheating or other abnormalities quickly. 
• The company has also added 128-bit encryption (owned by OPPO) while following TBS protocols of the USB IF public version to prevent security risks caused by hackers attempting to tamper with firmware, eliminating any potential hacking risks. 

Moving on to the second question. 

Won’t this also accelerate battery degradation?

If heat is an inevitable byproduct of fast charging, then faster battery degradation is also an unavoidable consequence.

Remember how OPPO revealed that the 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 degrades the battery faster than standard slow charging? 

OPPO Reno Ace with SuperVOOC 2.0 that charges at 65W degrades its battery’s capacity to around 90% in 800 full charging cycles. 

So if you think 125W would degrade the battery capacity even more rapidly, then you are correct.

OPPO revealed that according to their tests, the 125W flash charging reduces the battery life expectancy at 80% after 800 charging-discharging cycles. 

This figure isn’t really surprising. And it can be acceptable if you consider the convenience of ultra-fast charging in our day to day lives. If you charge your phone once every day, the 800 charging cycle amounts to over two years. 

Unfortunately, this is the price you pay for not having to spend hours charging your phone. 

Conclusion

Historically, OPPO has had an excellent track record with its VOOC and SuperVOOC 2.0 fast-charging technologies. Given that the 125W flash charging is built upon its earlier generation, safety seems to be given due priority on this new technology as well. 

OPPO did well with its Reno Ace model’s 65W SuperVOOC 2.0, keeping the heat to manageable levels while charging. But we’ll have to wait and see if the 125W flash charge technology with the additional temperature control measures can keep the phone relatively cool even when it charges a battery in just 20 minutes.

OPPO has confirmed that the technology is ready for mass production, but we don’t know which product will get it first. Probably, the next OPPO Ace3 model (OPPO has dropped Reno branding from the Ace series) will launch with this flash charging technology later this year.

OPPO’s SuperVOOC 2.0 is currently the fastest charging technology available on a commercial device. Devices with support for the technology support 65W fast charging and can be charged from empty to full in a little over less than half an hour. Next year, OPPO intends to take it higher next year according to new info.

A Weibo post by the Chinese blogger that goes by Really Assen revealed OPPO’s SuperVOOC 3.0 will have a power output rating of 80W. That is an increase of 18.75% over SuperVOOC 2.0’s 65W.

SuperVOOC 2.0 charges at 10V and 6.5A. With SuperVOOC 3.0, we speculate OPPO will go with a higher voltage similar to what we saw on the 120W Xiaomi charger. So SuperVOOC 3.0 chargers should have a voltage output of 20V and current output of 4A to achieve a maximum power output of 80W.

While the leak says SuperVOOC 3.0 will arrive next year, we won’t be surprised if OPPO announces before the end of the year. Notwithstanding, we advise you to take the info with a pinch of salt until more concrete info surfaces.

According to the tweet by the Senior Executive, Realme X2 will arrive with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 730G SoC which is an octa-core processor. Furthermore, the official Twitter handle of the CEO also gave out other key information about the device. The Realme X2 will feature 30W SuperVOOC which is a proprietary fast-charge technology from the company. On the front, the device is also confirmed to be equipped with a large 32MP selfie camera.

Currently, not much is known about the Indian version of the Realme X2 but if it is similar to the Chinese version than a few speculations can be made. The Chinese X2 featured a 6.4-inch full-HD+ (1080×2340 pixels) Super AMOLED display with a waterdrop-style notch. It was also paired had an in-display fingerprint scanner as well. It sported Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 730G SoC paired with 6GB and 8GB LPDDR4X RAM options.

On the rear, it featured a quad-camera setup that includes a 64MP primary Samsung GW1 sensor alongside a wide-angle lens, depth sensor, and a macro lens. Similar to the Twitter reveal, Realme X2 also features a 32MP front camera, so both smartphones might be the same handset but with minor differences. However, since no official confirmation has been received, no concrete statements can be made.

Notably, the tweet also stated that Twitter users that reshare the original post stand a chance at winning free tickets to the upcoming new Star Wars movie. So, we can expect a special model that collaborates with the Disney production.

OPPO Vice President Brian Shen revealed the big move that OPPO is about to unveil. According to the Shen, OPPO will soon be updating their SuperVOOC fast charging to be even more impressive than it already is. Yes, SuperVOOC is getting faster, and it’s speculated to become the world’s highest capacity mass produced fast charging solution.

The current version of SuperVOOC fast charging is rated at 50W, so pushing this higher would be a fairly impressive feat. No specific numbers have been given yet, but even a slight improvement would already be a worthy upgrade. These are some staggering speeds already, seeing it go higher would be ridiculous.

Brian Shen also announced that the new OPPO Reno device, the Oppo Reno2 5G, will feature support for the new and upgraded SuperVOOC. Regrettably, Shen Yiren did not disclose the release time of the new OPPO Reno, though he did not rule out the possibility that we would see it launch this year.

Unfortunately, it seems like the previous devices with SuperVOOC support won’t support the new version of the fast charging technology. This includes popular devices like the OPPO R15 and R17, though this was to be expected. We’re definitely looking forward to the new SuperVOOC technology, as well as the devices that will support it.

UPDATE: A Weibo post from Brian Shen claims that the updated SuperVOOC version will feature a rating of 80W. The post can be seen below. Apparently it’ll also be able to completely charge a 4000mAh battery in 20 minutes.

OPPO will announce a new phone on May 23. The device which is called the OPPO K3 will have a pop-up selfie camera with a notch-less display and a Snapdragon 710 SoC. A new report says OPPO will also announce new VOOC accessories alongside the phone.

The info was revealed by the official OPPO Accessories Weibo page. The Chinese manufacturer will announce three new VOOC accessories and a SuperVOOC car charger. We are surprised about the latter since it launched a SuperVOOC car charger back in January. The other VOOC accessories are said to be power banks and one might even be Pikachu-branded just like the SuperVOOC one from last year. However, these power banks may support the new VOOC 3.0 fast charging technology.

It has also been reported that the OPPO K3 will also support VOOC 3.0 fast charging technology.

OPPO’s SuperVOOC fast charging technology is still the fastest charging technology available on a commercial device. However, it is not the fastest. Huawei’s Mate X supports 55W fast-charging but since it is yet to go on sale, OPPO is still holding on to the crown. Xiaomi also announced its 100W fast charging technology back in March but it is yet to appear in any of its devices.

Gone are the days when Chinese companies blatantly copied western giants. In the past few years, companies coming out of China like Huawei and Xiaomi has pioneered a lot of modern-day innovations that go inside your phone. And it looks like the trend will continue for a foreseeable future.

Xiaomi has just revealed that it has successfully tested 100W fast charging for smartphones. Lin Bin, President and co-founder of Xiaomi revealed this news via a Weibo post a few hours ago. In the post, he revealed that the company’s engineers were able to achieve an astonishing 100W fast charging, which essentially charges a 4000mAh battery from 0 to 100 percent in just 17 minutes! That’s nearly twice as fast as the SuperVOOC from OPPO, which is currently the fastest charging technology available in the market for a smartphone.  

The company was even kind enough to show us that OPPO’s SuperVOOC could only charge up to 65 percent by the time the Xiaomi model on display was charged completely. By the way, Xiaomi’s 100W charging tech is being called as Super Charge Turbo, at least according to the video.

Unfortunately, apart from this demo, Xiaomi’s Lin Bin didn’t share any more details about the technology. So, the big question now is, whether we’ll see it anytime in the near future. We still haven’t met the real successor to the Mi Mix 3 yet (apart from a 5G edition), so it’s possible that the Mi Mix 4 could house this tech inside. Interestingly, the company seems to have teased the update to the Mix 3 model earlier today. So, it couldn’t have been a coincidence that Lin Bin decided to share this today. OPPO‘s SuperVOOC fast charging technology is unarguably the fastest quick charge technology for smartphones presently. While OPPO is launching car chargers with the supersonic SuperVOOC feature, the company has disclosed that the technology will not be on the upcoming OPPO Reno. Instead, the Reno will have the latest VOOC 3.0 technology.

The OPPO’s VP confirmed this on Friday in a Weibo post, offering some reasons why the Reno cannot have SuperVOOC technology. According to him, SuperVOOC has specific requirements regarding the physical size of the battery and space of the phone’s components. Reno doesn’t seem to meet those requirements instead, it comes with big battery capacity and the size may be too thin which would make the components to be compacted. The fast charging technology will be powered by VOOC 3.0. Bryan Shen revealed that the new VOOC 3.0 uses a completely new technology which brings the total charging time to 23.8% faster than the current VOOC 2.0. The VOOC fast charging technology is based on a low voltage pulse algorithm and customized super battery developed by the company. The charging technology churns out 20W of power just like OnePlus’s Dash Charge and lets you recharge your phone from 0 – 75% in 30 minutes.

OPPO’s flight to the limelight in the smartphone industry was perhaps propelled by the VOOC flash charge technology that it used on its smartphones. The company took the bar higher when it introduced the Super VOOC Flash Charge technology at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016. The technology only found its way to the Find X Lamborghini edition that was launched last year. Notably, the Find X Lamborghini edition packs a 3,400mAh battery whereas the Reno is said to have a 4064mAh battery under its hood. Super VOOC can charge a 2500mAh battery in just 15 minutes or up to 45% in just 5 minutes. That is super fast and so, the company may have played safe by not using the technology on the Reno since it is not suited for big batteries. We expect the VOOC 3.0 to offer a fast charging performance that is almost on par with SuperVOOC, though.

OPPO claims the charger is safe with up to six different protections including high voltage and low voltage protection and high current and low current protection.

Fast charging has quickly become one of the must-have features on a smartphone. Basically, fast charging increases the current sent to the battery to fill up its capacity or get charged quicker.

Different companies have adopted different standards for fast charging. While some companies have their own proprietary technology for fast charging that can be used with specific cables and chargers, some use universal standard.

Oppo, the Chinese smartphone brand has its own proprietary fast charging technology named VOOC Flash Charge. There are three versions of the same — VOOC, VOOC Mini, and Super VOOC. Further, Oppo has also announced that it has developed a new 15W Wireless Flash Charging. Now, the company has revealed that more than 100 million devices worldwide are using the company’s VOOC flash charging technology.

VOOC Flash Charge uses a low-voltage and high-current charging solution and claims to provide 2 hours of talk time when the phone is charged for only 5 minutes. VOOC Mini, on the other hand, has been optimized to have smaller adaptors.

The company recently launched an upgraded VOOC named SuperVOOC which is used in the company’s flagship devices. As per the company, SuperVOOC has maximum charging power of around 50W, charging the phone in just 35 minutes.

The VOOC flash charge technology was first introduced in the Oppo Find 7 and is currently being used in over 23 smartphones from Oppo. The company has also licensed this technology to other smartphone brands.

OPPO‘s SuperVOOC is one of the fastest fast-charging technology available in a phone. The charging technology supplies 50W (10V 5A) of power, allowing you charge supported devices from empty to 40% in just 10 minutes. Up until today, you could only use SuperVOOC with the bundled wall adapter. For those who are regularly on the go, OPPO has announced the first SuperVOOC power bank.

The new power bank was unveiled at a SuperVOOC event where OPPO also announced that it has partnered with The Pokémon Company to make the famous pokémon, Pikachu, the SuperVOOC brand mascot.

To mark the partnership, the OPPO announced a Pikachu-branded SuperVOOC power bank. The power bank has a battery capacity of 10000mAh. There is a single output port and a USB-C input port for charging. It also has four LED dots to indicate the battery level.

The SuperVOOC power bank uses a 3C battery which is combined with VFC fast charging algorithm for the SuperVOOC fast charging technology. The VFC charging algorithm is said to reduce the time taken during trickle charge. This increases the trickle charge speed by 200% which results in a 10% reduction in total charge time.

OPPO also announced Pikachu themed protective cases for the OPPO R17 Pro. The cases are priced at ¥199 (~$29) each while the power bank has a price tag of ¥349 (~$50). OPPO will ship the power bank and cases with Pikachu stickers and an NFC theme card. Scan the card and your phone’s theme should switch to a Pikachu one.

OPPO seems to be focused on its R9 series flagships for the time being, but we all know that R9 isn’t the true flagship smartphone lineup of the company. OPPO’s Find series have always been the one to bring top-end hardware and innovative software to the public and we are expecting a lot of good things from the OPPO Find 9 phone. However, details about the device seem to be scarce at the moment and the company has showed no sign to confirm that the lineup will be updated this year.

However, that doesn’t stop the leaks and rumors about the Find 9, as the most recent rumors about the phone claim that the device will be announced in June this year. The news comes via some users from China who claim to have recieved info regarding the phone’s release period. However, we still don’t have a specific date. It looks like OPPO is keeping things tight with the Find 9.

Naturally, being a top-end flagship, we can expect powerful hardware inside the OPPO Find 9. Past rumors have revealed that the phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 820 chipset under the hood with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. You should also find OPPO specific features such as Super VOOC fast charging and OPPO’s SmartSensor which comes inbuilt with image stabilization at the sensor level. But these are just some possibilities.

What’s also possible is a 4K display on the top-end version of the OPPO Find 9. Recently, we have seen rumors that OPPO and Lenovo are both planning to launch 4K display phones in 2016 and what better phone to debut this high-end feature than the Find 9.

Given the powerful hardware, don’t expect the phone to be cheap. Rumors say that the pricing could be as high as 3998 Yuan which is a lot (around $616), but still possible considering OPPO’s pricing history.
