Microsoft is reportedly working on new Surface devices that are expected to be released later this year. The most anticipated device is the new Surface Go 4 codenamed Tanta, which is set to feature an ARM processor for the first time.

According to sources, the entry-level model will be equipped with a Snapdragon 7c-based SoC, providing similar performance to its predecessor but with better power efficiency for longer battery life. The new SoC may also allow Microsoft to include 5G capabilities in the Surface Go for the first time, though this has not been confirmed.

The Surface Go 4 is expected to have minor design changes, but will still maintain a similar-sized footprint to its previous models. An Intel variant is also expected to be available for those who prefer it.

In addition to the Surface Go 4, Microsoft is said to be working on a new Surface Pro in two sizes, following in the footsteps of Apple’s iPad Pro. Alongside the typical 13-inch Surface Pro, Microsoft is building a new 11-inch Surface Pro, codenamed Luxor. This device will have a similar shape and size to the Surface Go but with slimmer bezels like its larger sibling. The 11-inch Surface Pro will be more powerful, featuring a 120Hz display, and will have a higher price point than the Surface Go.

Windows 11 recently received an update with a new tablet mode that works better on devices with smaller screens. More tablet optimizations are expected to be added to Windows in the future.

The release dates for the new Surface Go and Surface Pro are still uncertain, but they are unlikely to be shipped before this fall, according to sources. Microsoft had initially planned to release the new Surface Go this spring, but that plan has been changed. Additionally, the release of the next Surface Pro by Microsoft is dependent on the availability of Qualcomm’s new Nuvia chips.

Microsoft is gearing up for the launch of the Surface Book 3 alongside which the Surface Go 2 was also expected to arrive. The latter is expected to feature refreshed specs and will replace the existing Microsoft Surface Go. While there had been plenty of rumors circulating online, but now, a new report has revealed certain images and specs regarding the upcoming tablet just prior to its launch.

According to a report from WinFuture, the Microsoft Surface Go 2 will have the same design as the original Surface Go, but will feature a slight bigger 10.5 inch display. Furthermore, the physical dimensions of the tablet have remained unchanged, which makes it compatible with existing Surface Go covers that one may own or are available in the market.

Arriving at the display itself, Microsoft has bumped up the resolution to FHD (1920 x 1080p) and made the bezels narrower. The Surface Go 2 will arrive in two variants that will house different specs under the hood. One variant will feature the Intel Gold 4425Y processor while the other houses the Intel Core m3-8100Y chipset. The company is also reportedly adding 4G LTE support on the affordable Surface Go 2 variant and will also bring WiFi 6 support as well.

In terms of memory, the Surface Go 2 with the Pentium SoC will feature 4GB of RAM and 64B of internal storage. This variant will be priced at 459 EUR (roughly 496 US Dollars). The higher end version with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage will be sold for 629 EUR (roughly 680 US Dollars). A 256GB storage version is also claimed to be an option and, unfortunately, the pricing details for the Core m3 model is currently unknown.

Today, Microsoft has announced the Surface Go as the cheapest Surface device ever. The Surface Go comes with a 10-inch display and has arrived with an attractive starting price of $399.

Microsoft Surface Go Specs and Features

The Surface Go that features an inbuilt kickstand looks like a smaller edition of the Surface Pro . The 10-inch touchscreen display offers an aspect ratio of 3:2 and a resolution of 1800 x 1200 pixels. The front-facing camera of the Surface Go supports facial identification. The device is equipped with a Surface Connector for connecting a charger as well as linking it to a desktop dock. It is also equipped with a USB-C 3.1 port.  The weight of the device is 1.15lbs.

The Surface Go comes with Windows 10 onboard. The 7^th generation Intel Pentium Gold 4415Y powers the portable 2-in-1 laptop-tablet hybrid. The 4 GB and 6 GB RAM variant of the Surface Go respectively features 64 GB and 128 GB of storage. The exact size of the battery of the Surface Go is yet to be revealed. Microsoft claims that the device can offer a battery life of up to 9 hours on a single charge.

The aforementioned variants of the Microsoft Surface Go only support Wi-Fi connectivity for internet. The Redmond-based tech giant has confirmed that it will be rolling out an LTE model later this year.

Surface Go Pricing and Availability

The base model of the Surface Go that includes 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of SSD carries a price tag of $399. The higher variant featuring 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of SSD is priced at $549.

Some of the accessories that will be available for the Surface Go include Type Cover (black) worth $99, Signature Type Cover in red, blue and silver for $129, Surface Mobile Mouse for $34 and Surface Pen for $99.

The pre-orders of Surface Go will begin on July 10 and it will start shipping from the next month. Here is the list of countries where the Surface Go will be available on pre-orders Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, U.K and U.S. The device will be also coming to other markets in the near future.
