Tecno has just launched a new smartphone in India. It is the Phantom X that had first been announced last year. This device is the company’s top end premium model that comes with some notable specs, so let’s have a look.

The smartphone sports a 6.7 inch curved AMOLED display that has a Full HD+ resolution with a 90Hz refresh rate, 103 percent colour gamut, and a pill shaped punch hole cutout on the front. The screen even houses an in display fingerprint scanner as well. Under the hood, the device is equipped with a MediaTek Helio G95 SoC along with Mali G57 GPU. For memory, the Phantox X is paired with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

On the back, the handset features a triple camera setup that consists of a 50 megapixel primary sensor, paired with an 8 megapixel ultra wide angle lens, and a 13 megapixel portrait camera. Meanwhile, the front houses a 48 megapixel selfie shooter and another 8 megapixel ultra wide angle lens in the dual camera setup. The smartphone is powered by a large 4,700mAh battery pack that supports 33W fast charging from its USB Type C port.

The Tecno Phantom X is available in two color options, namely Summer Sunset and Iceland Blue. So for those interested, you can check out the device on Amazon, with sales beginning from May 4. The device is priced at 25,999 INR (roughly 340 US Dollars) for its lone 8GB + 256GB model.

Last year, Tecno announced its plans to launch a new smartphone in India called the Phantom X. The Amazon India landing page of the device recently went live revealing some key specs. Now, the brand has announced the official Indian launch date of the phone.

In a recent tweet, the company announced that the Tecno Phantom X will be launched on April 29th in India. From the post, it’s also somewhat clear that we can expect the device to initially arrive exclusively on Amazon India.

So far, it is confirmed that the Tecno Phantom X will feature a curved AMOLED display panel. It is expected to have  a Full HD+ resolution, Corning Gorilla Glass protection, and even a 90Hz refresh rate as well. It will also house an in display optical fingerprint scanner and a punch hole cutout for two front facing cameras.

Under the hood, the device is expected to come equipped with  a MediaTek Helio G95 SoC and is powered by a large 4,700mAh battery pack that also supports 33W fast charging. The Phantom X will have 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM clubbed with up to 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage. Tecno will also provide the virtual RAM functionality for an additional 5GB of RAM.

On the rear, the Phantom X houses a triple camera setup, with a 50-megapixel primary shooter. The other two cameras on the back will likely be an 8 megapixel ultra wide angle lens, and a 13 megapixel portrait sensor. Meanwhile, the front features a 48 megapixel selfie camera and an 8 megapixel ultra wide angle lens as well. The smartphone will launch in two color variants, namely Starry Night Blue and Monet Summer.

This is a comparison between the specifications of two of the latest budget phones released by the company: Tecno Pova 2 and Tecno Phantom X. The first is one of the best battery phones in the market, while the latter is one of the best affordable camera phones. Tecno Pova 2 vs Tecno Phantom X

Design

While the Tecno Pova 2 has a cheap design, Tecno Phantom X comes with a premium design which reminds me a lot of the most expensive flagships. It has a curved edge to edge display making the phone very elegant, as well as a glass back protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5. The centrally-placed and rectangle-shaped camera module you can find on the rear side is not exactly the most elegant thing you can get on a phone in 2021, but overall, we can say that this device has a premium and beautiful design. The Tecno Pova 2 is made of polycarbonate and it has pretty high dimensions, so it is definitely not the perfect phone for those who love beautiful designs.

The display has a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, a diagonal of 6.7 inches, and a 90 Hz refresh rate. Last but not least, it has an in-display fingerprint reader. It is a way better panel than the one found on the Tecno Pova 2, but this device remains very interesting because it has one of the widest displays in the whole smartphone market. Tecno Pova 2 has a diagonal of 6.9 inches: not the dimensions of a tablet but we are not so far from it. Unfortunately, we are talking about an IPS LCD panel with a standard refresh rate, but it is enough for the price. The fingerprint reader of the Tecno Pova 2 is side-mounted.

Specs & Software

If you choose Tecno Phantom X, you also get a better hardware department. The phone is powered by the Helio G95 chipset paired with 8 GB of RAM and a whopping 256 GB of internal storage which you can furtherly expand with a micro SD dedicated slot. Tecno Phantom X is one of the affordable phones with the highest amount of internal storage. Tecno Pova 2 has the lower-end Helio G85 platform, up to 6 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of internal storage. Unfortunately, none of these phones supports the 5G connectivity. The handsets run Android 11 out of the box, with the HiOS custom skin on top.

Camera

Despite it is just a midrange 4G phone, the camera department of the Tecno Phantom X is very close to the ones of high-end camera phones. On the rear side, it has a 50 MP main sensor with dual pixel and laser autofocus, a 13 MP telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom, and an 8 MP ultrawide camera. Further, it sports a dual front camera including a 48 MP main sensor and an 8 MP ultrawide camera: this means that Tecno Phantom X is one of the best phones to shoot selfies with. With a 48 MP main camera and three sensors with a 2 MP resolution, Tecno Pova 2 is just a low-end camera phone and it can not compete with its internal rival in any way.

Battery

Tecno Pova 2 has one of the biggest batteries in the whole Android panorama. With a capacity of 7000 mAh, it is able to provide outstanding battery life and it supports fast charging with a power of 18W. Tecno Phantom X still comes with a good 4700 mAh which charges faster with a power of 33W.

Price

Tecno Phantom X will hit the Indian market soon with a starting price tag of around Rs. 18,999, while Tecno Pova 2 is priced at Rs. 13,499. Tecno Phantom X wins this comparison if we only judge the phones by their specs sheets, but Tecno Pova 2 has a very high value for money and it offers a way longer battery life.

Tecno Phantom X specifications

The Phantom X flaunts a 6.57-inch S-AMOLED FHD+ display that offers a 19.5;9 aspect ratio and a 90Hz refresh rate. It is the company’s first phone to feature a curved edge display and an in-display fingerprint sensor.

For snapping selfies, it has a 48-megapixel (main) + 8-megapixel (ultrawide) dual selfie camera setup. The back panel of the phone has a 50-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens with a 120-degree FOV, and a 13-megapixel portrait snapper with quad-LED flash.

The Phantom X is driven by the Helio G95 chip and it boots to Android 11 OS, which is overlaid with company’s HiOS skin. The handset offers users with 8 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. The phone supports 33W rapid charging for its 4,700mAh battery. It offers other features like liquid cooling technology, a USB-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone slot.

Tecno Phantom X price

The Tecno Phantom X has arrived with a price tag of NGN 228,000 (~$555) in Nigeria. In Kenya, it is priced at KES 49,999 (~$460). It can be purchased in two colors such as Starry Night and Monet Summer.

The Tecno Phantom X has been leaked multiple times over the past couple of weeks. Recently, we saw its live images, and last week, the phone went on pre-orders. Now, the smartphone is all set to hit the market on the 1st of July. As there are only a few hours left for the official unveiling of its retail price, let’s have a look at what to expect from the upcoming device from Tecno.

The upcoming Tecno Phantom X’s entire specs sheet is available online. On the 24th of March, the handset was listed on the official Tecno website but now the listing has been shelved off. All of this takes us to what to expect from tomorrow’s unveiling event. 

Tecno Phantom X – What to Expect? 

The Phantom X will be a successor to the Tecno Phantom 9 that launched back in 2019. It is said to be a major upgrade over the predecessor. The device is expected to feature a 6.7-inch dual punch-hole display. It will be an IPS LCD panel with curved edges. The screen will sport a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and a refresh rate of 90Hz. 

As for the optics, the device is said to flaunt a 48MP + 8MP dual front camera setup for selfies. It will feature a vertical camera setup placed at the center. The rear setup will be led by a 50MP primary sensor with laser autofocus support, a 13MP telephoto sensor, and lastly an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens. 

Under the hood, the smartphone will draw power from the MediaTek Helio G95 SoC paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. It is said to have a microSD card slot for additional storage. It is expected to house a 4,700mAh battery with 33W fast charging support. The smartphone will run on Android 11 out of the box with HiOS on top of it. 

The device will come equipped with a side-facing fingerprint scanner for added security. It is also expected to have Face unlock support. 

Pricing, Colors, and Availability 

Moving to the pricing, the Tecno Phantom X is rumored to cost Ksh. 49,999(~$464) in Kenya and N228,000(~$554) in Nigeria. The smartphone is expected to arrive in two color variants – Monet Summer and Starry Night. It will be tomorrow(July 1st) unveiled in an online launch event at 7 PM Kenya time and 5 PM Nigeria time.

Transsion Holdings subsidiary Tecno has built a towering reputation for itself in the Middle East, Indian, and African markets with its decently priced and durable offerings. The brand has over the years launched budget and mid-range smartphones as well as feature phones which have propelled it as a leading brand in these markets.

However, the brand is looking to expand its dragnet into the high-end market. To this end, it is relaunching the Phantom series as a separate sub-brand. The Tecno Phantom X has been launched as the first premium smartphone under the new sub-brand. The smartphone features several high-end features, including a powerful front and rear camera setup.

The Tecno Phantom X sports a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a FHD+ resolution and support for a 90Hz refreshrate. The display uses the 19.5:9 aspect ratio and is curved on the sides. The phone also has a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front and back panel for protection.

The Phantom X is powered by a MediaTek Helio G95 processor paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The device also adopts a vapor chamber cooling system attached to the chipset to keep it cooler up to 3-5º.

At the rear, the Tecno flagship packs a 50MP main camera with a large 1/1.3” sensor with 1.2µm native pixels that grow to 2.4µm with binning. The sensor utilizes Dual Pixel and Laser autofocus with an f/1.85 aperture. The device also packs a 13MP telephoto lens while the third sensor os an 8MP ultrawide-angle lens. The device also packs a quad-LED flash. The device features a fingerprint reader embedded under the display and is touted to unlock the phone in 0.4 seconds.

For selfies, the Phantom X packs a dual camera setup embedded inside the dual punch-hole cut-out located at the left corner of the display. The selfie camera includes a 48MP main shooter and an 8MP ultrawide module with a 105º lens. The front camera even has a dual-LED flash.

The device packs a 4700mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging. Tecno says a 30 -minute charge will boost a flat battery up to 70%.

Tecno is yet to announce the pricing details of the Phantom X. The flagship is expected to be available next month.

A leaked poster of the phone reveals that it will come in colors like Van Gogh Sky Blue and Monet’s Summer Garden. The right edge of the device has a volume rocker and a power key. Its bottom edge features a 3.5mm audio jack, a USB-C port, and a speaker grille.

One of the above-shown live shots has revealed the key specifications of the Tecno Phantom X. It is mentioned on the “My phone” page of the phone that its model number is AC8, and it runs on HiOS 7.6 based on Android 11 OS. The 6.7inch OLED panel of the device supports a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and it is powered by the Helio G95 chipset. Leaks suggest that the phone supports a refresh rate of 90Hz.

Placed on the front is a 48-megapixel + 8-megapixel dual selfie camera system. The back panel of the phone has a 50-megapixel main camera, a 13-megapixel lens, an 8-megapixel lens, and an unknown sensor.

The Tecno Phantom X has 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of built-in storage, and a 4,700mAh battery. The handset is expected to arrive with support for 33W fast charging. The Phantom X is speculated to debut in August.
