<p>2024 has been a bold year for smartphone designs, as brands took risks with experimental backs and color schemes that range from intriguing to downright bizarre. While some innovations push the envelope with stylish sophistication, others seem to border on impractical aesthetics. Here’s a look at some of the quirkiest smartphone backs and colors of the year, along with what they might imply for the evolving smartphone market.</p>

<h3><strong>Xiaomi 15 Diamond Limited Edition</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="539" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Xiaomi-15-Diamond-Limited-Edition-1024x539.png?x23692" alt="Xiaomi 15 Diamond Limited Edition" class="wp-image-658987" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Xiaomi-15-Diamond-Limited-Edition-1024x539.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Xiaomi-15-Diamond-Limited-Edition-300x158.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Xiaomi-15-Diamond-Limited-Edition-768x404.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Xiaomi-15-Diamond-Limited-Edition-1536x808.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Xiaomi-15-Diamond-Limited-Edition-696x366.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Xiaomi-15-Diamond-Limited-Edition-1068x562.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Xiaomi-15-Diamond-Limited-Edition-798x420.png 798w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Xiaomi-15-Diamond-Limited-Edition.png 1729w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/xiaomi/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Xiaomi</a> pushed luxury to new heights with its limited edition, the Xiaomi 15 Diamond Edition. The back of this model features crocodile-grain leather and a real 57-facet diamond embedded on the side, targeting those with a taste for the extravagant. Available in Elephant Grey, Orange, and Glacier White, this phone undeniably stands out.</p>

<p>However, some might feel that embedding an actual diamond on a smartphone could come off as over-the-top. And while the opulent look is impressive, it raises questions about practicality. Will it really appeal to everyday users, or is it just a trophy piece for collectors? It certainly created a memorable moment for one Xiaomi fan, who <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/06/xiaomi-fan-uses-xiaomi-15-diamond-edition-to-propose/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">recently used it to propose to his girlfriend</a>.</p>

<h3><strong>CMF Phone 1</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="640" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/CMF-Phone-1-1024x640.png?x23692" alt="CMF Phone 1" class="wp-image-659123" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/CMF-Phone-1-1024x640.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/CMF-Phone-1-300x188.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/CMF-Phone-1-768x480.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/CMF-Phone-1-696x435.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/CMF-Phone-1-1068x668.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/CMF-Phone-1-672x420.png 672w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/CMF-Phone-1.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>CMF (an offshoot brand of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/nothing/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Nothing</a>) introduced <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/nothing-cmf-phone-1/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">CMF Phone 1</a>, which comes with a vegan leather back available in Light Green, Blue (India only), and Orange. Users can swap these back covers or attach accessories like a fold-out stand or cardholder. Though the customization and sustainable materials sound appealing, the lack of Nothing’s signature Glyph interface might make it feel incomplete for those familiar with the original Nothing lineup. In many ways, it feels like a starter kit for unique designs rather than a complete product.</p>

<h3><strong>Tecno Pova 6 Pro</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="750" height="422" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Tecno-Pova-6-Pro.webp?x23692" alt="Tecno Pova 6 Pro" class="wp-image-659124" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Tecno-Pova-6-Pro.webp 750w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Tecno-Pova-6-Pro-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Tecno-Pova-6-Pro-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Tecno-Pova-6-Pro-746x420.webp 746w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></figure></div>

<p>Tecno’s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/tecno-pova-6-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pova 6 Pro</a> introduces a back cover embedded with 210 Mini-LEDs capable of producing eye-catching ring and propeller-shaped light effects. With up to 101 user-defined lighting scenarios, the device practically doubles as a mini rave light. However, these flashy lights might appeal to a niche audience, primarily gamers or young users. For regular users, it might simply add unnecessary weight and battery drain. The lighting effects, though novel, make it difficult to see how it enhances the device’s practical appeal beyond the gimmick.</p>

<h3><strong>Nothing Phone (2a) Plus Community Edition</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Nothing-Phone-2a-Plus-Community-Edition-1024x576.png?x23692" alt="Nothing Phone (2a) Plus Community Edition" class="wp-image-659125" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Nothing-Phone-2a-Plus-Community-Edition-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Nothing-Phone-2a-Plus-Community-Edition-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Nothing-Phone-2a-Plus-Community-Edition-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Nothing-Phone-2a-Plus-Community-Edition-1536x864.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Nothing-Phone-2a-Plus-Community-Edition-2048x1152.png 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Nothing-Phone-2a-Plus-Community-Edition-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Nothing-Phone-2a-Plus-Community-Edition-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Nothing-Phone-2a-Plus-Community-Edition-1920x1080.png 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Nothing-Phone-2a-Plus-Community-Edition-747x420.png 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/30/nothing-phone-2a-plus-community-edition-launched/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Nothing Phone (2a) Plus Community Edition</a> incorporates green-tinted phosphorescent materials on its back, allowing it to emit a soft glow in the dark. The design is supposedly inspired by fireflies and the idea of finding light in darkness, symbolizing community connections.</p>

<p>However, while this aesthetic may resonate with fans of Nothing’s minimalistic design language, it seems more fitting as a novelty rather than a daily-use feature. This glow-in-the-dark element could become unnecessary for those not enthusiastic about luminescent phones, leaving some to wonder if this was more about creative experimentation than functional innovation.</p>

<h3><strong>Xiaomi 15 Liquid Silver Color</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="640" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Xiaomi-15-Liquid-Silver-Color-1024x640.png?x23692" alt="Xiaomi 15 Liquid Silver Color" class="wp-image-659075" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Xiaomi-15-Liquid-Silver-Color-1024x640.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Xiaomi-15-Liquid-Silver-Color-300x188.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Xiaomi-15-Liquid-Silver-Color-768x480.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Xiaomi-15-Liquid-Silver-Color-696x435.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Xiaomi-15-Liquid-Silver-Color-1068x668.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Xiaomi-15-Liquid-Silver-Color-672x420.png 672w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Xiaomi-15-Liquid-Silver-Color.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>Another striking addition to the Xiaomi lineup is the Liquid Silver edition of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-15/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Xiaomi 15</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-15-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Xiaomi 15 Pro</a>. It features a unique ripple effect that shimmers when caught in the right light.</p>

<p>While this silver variant feels modern and sleek, the reflective surface may not appeal to everyone due to fingerprint smudges and increased slipperiness. Additionally, it’s likely to be a dust magnet, which could detract from its overall aesthetic appeal. For a color that is supposed to add sophistication, this choice might end up being high-maintenance.</p>

<h3><strong>Are These Designs the Future?</strong></h3>

<p>With designs like these, it’s clear that brands are willing to try new, sometimes unconventional, aesthetics to capture consumer attention. While these experimental back designs and colors show innovation, they also hint at potential downsides. As brands strive to balance form and function, it remains to be seen if these designs will inspire a new generation of stylish smartphones or end up as a mere flash in the pan.</p>

<p>Ultimately, the eccentricities of 2024’s smartphone backs remind us that while a touch of luxury, customization, and creativity can be exciting, these additions can sometimes compromise the practicality and user experience that most users ultimately prioritize. Whether these designs represent progress or gimmickry is up for debate, but one thing’s certain: 2024 has been a visually captivating year in smartphone design.</p>

<h3><strong>Tecno Pova 6 Pro’s key details confirmed before India launch</strong></h3>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/pova-6-series/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tecno Pova 6 series</a> announcement is right around the corner. But ahead of the official announcement, the Pova 6 Pro 5G model was spotted on a major certification platform, which revealed some of its key specs and design elements. So let&#8217;s have a look.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tecno-Pova-6-Pro-FCC.webp?x23692" alt="" class="wp-image-603164" width="496" height="607" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tecno-Pova-6-Pro-FCC.webp 735w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tecno-Pova-6-Pro-FCC-245x300.webp 245w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tecno-Pova-6-Pro-FCC-696x852.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tecno-Pova-6-Pro-FCC-343x420.webp 343w" sizes="(max-width: 496px) 100vw, 496px" /></figure></div>

<h2>Tecno Pova 6 Pro visits FCC</h2>

<p>The Tecno Pova 6 Pro model surfaced on FCC carrying the TECNO-LI9 model number. Previously, the smartphone was certified on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/02/01/tecno-pova-6-pro-surfaces-on-google-play-console-listing-with-key-specs/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google Play Console</a>, which revealed its front design. Now, the latest sighting showcases the rear look of the upcoming device. The back seems to feature a flat panel that houses a large camera island that features a dual camera setup and an LED flash module. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tecno-Pova-6-Pro-FCC-2.webp?x23692" alt="Tecno Pova 6 Pro" class="wp-image-603165" width="-254" height="-173" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tecno-Pova-6-Pro-FCC-2.webp 831w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tecno-Pova-6-Pro-FCC-2-300x204.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tecno-Pova-6-Pro-FCC-2-768x522.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tecno-Pova-6-Pro-FCC-2-696x473.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tecno-Pova-6-Pro-FCC-2-618x420.webp 618w" sizes="(max-width: 831px) 100vw, 831px" /></figure></div>

<p>The power button and volume rockers can be seen on the right side as well. For storage, the FCC listing confirms that the Tecno Pova 6 Pro 5G will offer up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The database confirms that it will ship with an adapter with the model number U700TSA. This reveals support for 70W wired fast charging. Based on our previous reports, the Pova 6 Pro is set to be equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 6080 SoC. It will also run on Android 14 OS out of the box.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tecno-Pova-6-Pro-FCC-3.webp?x23692" alt="Tecno Pova 6 Pro" class="wp-image-603166" width="347" height="293" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tecno-Pova-6-Pro-FCC-3.webp 670w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tecno-Pova-6-Pro-FCC-3-300x253.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tecno-Pova-6-Pro-FCC-3-498x420.webp 498w" sizes="(max-width: 347px) 100vw, 347px" /></figure></div>

<p>The Google Play Console showcased a curved display with a Full HD+ resolution and 480 PPI pixel density as well. Tecno&#8217;s Pova 6 series of smartphones will make their debut during the MWC 2024 event, so stick around for more as we will be covering the launch event.</p>

<p>MWC 2024 is scheduled for February 26-29. However, most smartphones will likely go official ahead of that. Gone are the days when Mobile World Congress used to be the destination of hot new phone releases.</p>

<p>Around 12 brands are expected to announce new phones. Only a couple of them fall under the premium category. While the rest of them are either mid-rangers or budget models.</p>

<p>Almost all of these handsets will be unveiled for global markets. The companies that will debut new smartphones are Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, Realme, iQOO, Nothing, HMD, Honor, Tecno, Infinix, and Itel.</p>

<p>Let’s check out these devices one by one.</p>

<h2><strong>Upcoming Smartphones in February 2024</strong></h2>

<h3><strong>Xiaomi 14 Ultra</strong></h3>

<p>The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/01/30/xiaomi-14-ultra-again-tipped-to-launch-by-february-end/">tipped to launch</a> by the end of February at either MWC or earlier. Unlike its predecessors, it is expected to see a wider global release.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="536" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Xiaomi-14-Ultra-Hands-on-1-1024x536.jpg?x23692" alt="Xiaomi 14 Ultra Hands on -1" class="wp-image-596347" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Xiaomi-14-Ultra-Hands-on-1-1024x536.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Xiaomi-14-Ultra-Hands-on-1-300x157.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Xiaomi-14-Ultra-Hands-on-1-768x402.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Xiaomi-14-Ultra-Hands-on-1-696x364.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Xiaomi-14-Ultra-Hands-on-1-1068x559.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Xiaomi-14-Ultra-Hands-on-1-803x420.jpg 803w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Xiaomi-14-Ultra-Hands-on-1.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The device is said to arrive with a quad 50MP camera system. The primary camera will be a Sony LYT-900 with variable aperture. It will be paired with an ultrawide unit, a telephoto shooter, and a periscope telephoto snapper.</p>

<p>The phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and draw energy from a 5,180mah battery. It will support 90W wired and 50W wireless charging standards.</p>

<p>It is anticipated to carry a higher price tag due to a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/02/01/xiaomi-14-ultra-price-hike-due-to-an-increased-bill-of-materials-claims-dcs/">rise in BOM (Bill of Materials)</a>.</p>

<h3><strong>Huawei Pocket S2</strong></h3>

<p>The Huawei Pocket S2 is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/02/01/huawei-pocket-s2-launch-date-leaked-new-notebook-with-kirin-pc-processor-may-debut-alongside/">rumored to launch</a> on February 27. It could get announced at MWC.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Huawei-Pocket-S2-leaked-render-1024x576.jpg?x23692" alt="Huawei Pocket S2 leaked render" class="wp-image-581957" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Huawei-Pocket-S2-leaked-render-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Huawei-Pocket-S2-leaked-render-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Huawei-Pocket-S2-leaked-render-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Huawei-Pocket-S2-leaked-render-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Huawei-Pocket-S2-leaked-render-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Huawei-Pocket-S2-leaked-render-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Huawei-Pocket-S2-leaked-render.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The device is said to be powered by an underclocked version of the HiSilicon Kirin 9000s chip. Unfortunately, that’s all the information we have on this handset.</p>

<p>The Pocket S2 will succeed the original Pocket S from late 2022, which was introduced as the company’s most affordable foldable smartphone at the time.</p>

<h3><strong>Oppo F25&nbsp; and Reno 11F</strong></h3>

<p>The Oppo F25 is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/01/17/oppo-f25-india-launch-tipped-for-february-specifications-revealed/">tipped to launch</a> in India in February. The device will also go by Oppo Reno 11F <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/01/16/oppo-reno-11f-5g-full-specifications-revealed-before-launch/">in Southeast Asia</a>.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="500" height="500" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Oppo-Reno-11F-5G.jpg?x23692" alt="Oppo Reno 11F 5G" class="wp-image-598486" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Oppo-Reno-11F-5G.jpg 500w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Oppo-Reno-11F-5G-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Oppo-Reno-11F-5G-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Oppo-Reno-11F-5G-420x420.jpg 420w" sizes="(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" /></figure>

<p>The phone is expected to arrive with a 6.7-inch FHD+ 120Hz OLED display with an in-screen fingerprint sensor and a MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chip. It will draw energy from a 5,000mAh battery and support 67W wired charging.</p>

<p>The handset will sport a 64MP (wide) + 8MP (ultrawide) + 2MP (macro) triple camera setup and a 32MP selfie camera. It will be IP65-rated for splash resistance.</p>

<h3><strong>Vivo V30 Series, V40 SE, and V40 Lite</strong></h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Infinix_Note_30_5G_Blue-1024x576.jpg?x23692" alt="Infinix Note 30 5G" class="wp-image-541331" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Infinix_Note_30_5G_Blue-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Infinix_Note_30_5G_Blue-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Infinix_Note_30_5G_Blue-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Infinix_Note_30_5G_Blue-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Infinix_Note_30_5G_Blue-2048x1152.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Infinix_Note_30_5G_Blue-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Infinix_Note_30_5G_Blue-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Infinix_Note_30_5G_Blue-1920x1080.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Infinix_Note_30_5G_Blue-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>
