This month Tecno released two great affordable phones: the Tecno Spark 9T and the Tecno Spark 9 Pro. They are very beautiful phones to be just entry-level devices. Their designs are pretty original and they also come with interesting specifications if we consider their actual prices. They do not feature the 5G connectivity, but they are very affordable and a lot of people are wondering which one to buy, given that they belong to the same range. This is a comparison between the specifications of the Tecno Spark 9T and the Tecno Spark 9 Pro which will help you to understand the differences between these two budget phones.

Tecno Spark 9T vs Tecno Spark 9 Pro

Design

The design of the Tecno Spark 9T is clean and minimal. It has two round camera modules which remind me of the latest Honor phones, a high screen to body ratio, and a waterdrop notch. Nothing special to mention, but it is definitely an elegant phone even though it is just a cheap device. The Tecno Spark 9 Pro is more interesting because it comes with catchier color variants and a texture made of letters on the rear side. It is definitely a more interesting phone for young people. It has a high screen to body ratio just like its sibling, but it is thinner, even though it features the same battery capacity. The camera modules are similar to the ones found on the 9T, with a LED flash on the right. Both the phone feature 3.5 mm audio jacks on the lower border, but they do not come with stereo speakers.

Display

The displays found on these devices are nothing special if compared to other affordable devices. They are IPS panels, so do not expect the best image quality out there because they can only be considered sufficient display. The Tecno Spark 9 Pro wins the image quality comparison because it comes with a higher resolution: Full HD+ with 1080 x 2460 pixels, while the Tecno Spark 9T has a lower HD+ resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels. However, if you are a gamer, you might prefer the Tecno Spark 9T because it has a higher refresh rate: 90 Hz instead of just 60 Hz. As mentioned above there are no stereo speakers, but these phones feature a side-mounted fingerprint reader and it is placed on the power key. Both the displays have a diagonal of 6.6 inches, which is why these devices have similar dimensions.

Specs & Software

The most powerful device of this duo is undoubtedly the Tecno Spark 9 Pro. It is equipped with a Mediatek Helio G85 mobile platform running at 2 GHz and built at 12 nm. The SoC is composed of two Cortex-A75 cores running at 2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores running at 1.8 GHz, as well as a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU. The chipset is paired with up to 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage you can furtherly expand with a micro SD dedicated slot. The Tecno Spark 9T is powered by the MediaTek Helio G37 mobile platform running at a max frequency of 2.3 GHz and built at 12 nm. The chipset is composed of four Cortex A53 CPUs running at 2.3 GHz, four Cortex A53 CPUs running at 1.8 GHz, and a PowerVR GE8320 GPU. It has 4 GB of RAM and either 64 GB or 128 GB of native storage, expandable with a micro SD.

Camera

The best camera setup belongs to the Tecno Spark 9 Pro which wins the camera comparison as well. On the rear side, it has a 50 MP main sensor, a 2 MP depth sensor, and a QVGA lens, as well as a 32 MP front snapper for selfies. It is not a high-end camera, but way better than the main camera found on the Tecno Spark 9T. The 9T has a 13 MP main sensor and the same secondary sensors as the Pro version, as well as the same 32 MP selfie snapper. What makes the difference is the main sensor with its disappointing 13 MP resolution.

Battery

The Tecno Spark 9T and the Tecno Spark 9 Pro have the same battery capacity: 5000 mAh. The battery life is similar, but the 9T should last more in a lot of scenarios due to its lower display resolution. On the other hand, the Pro variant is the only one to support fast charging with a power of 18W.

Price

If you need a unit of the Tecno Spark 9T, you have to pay about €180/$188 at the actual change in the Indian market. The Tecno Spark 9 Pro is yet to hit the shelves and we still do not know how much it will cost. The Pro variant wins the comparison due to its higher display resolution, better 50 MP main camera, superior chipset, a higher quantity of RAM, and, last but not least, 18W fast charging technology.

Today we are going to introduce a new phone from Tecno, the SPARK 9 Pro. Tecno is a brand that I’m sure no one is unfamiliar with. Their phones are selling very well in emerging countries and regions. The SPARK 9 Pro is one of their new entry-level phones, which is available for only around $170. Interestingly, after using the SPARK 9 Pro for a while, it gave me a new perspective on entry-level phones.

Let’s take a quick look at what’s in the box for the SPARK 9 Pro. A hard PC case. I really like this case because usually soft cases will turn yellow after a while, PC cases do not. Then there is a 18w charger. Card pin and charging cable, and a wired headset. Yes, it has a headphone jack. And there’s an even rarer feature than the headphone jack: the message alert light.

This is very useful on phones without AOD. In addition, the SIM card slot supports both dual SIM and SD Card, and has a red rubber ring to prevent water and dust ingress, indicating that the SPARK 9 Pro is to some extent waterproof. Even though it is sold at a low price, it does not use the Micro-B charging port. The fingerprint recognition is also on the side instead of on the back. And it looks really good.

The back and bezel are purely flat, and the part of the hand grip is frosted. The logo and slogan are on the right side, I prefer this way of putting them in the corner than the practice of enlarging the slogan. The camera module has only two circles, very simple. That’s right, an entry-level phone camera does not need to have much-exaggerated design, simple is the best.

TECNO SPARK 9 Pro Review: Cameras

SPARK 9 Pro comes with a 32MP front camera. Compared to many 8MP or 16MP front cameras, it wins at least in the number of pixels. And there’s an AI Portrait enhancer feature that will make your photos sharper even in low light conditions. It’s not a gimmick, it really enhances the clarity of the photo. And in its beauty mode, as you can see in this photo, the mole is removed from the face.

Its front camera even works with Super Night mode, which improves exposure and reduces noise at night. It also has the Ring Screen Fill-in Light, a message alert light that can be used as a front-facing flash, which is only available on some phones that focus on selfies.

It simply turned my perception of entry phones upside down. It’s not recommended to turn on the flash when it’s very dark, because your hair might blend in with the background. Many flagship phones have a front camera that can only record 1080P video, but this 32MP front camera supports video recording at up to 2K resolution. It doesn’t have EIS, but once you think about its price, you feel that the Tecno SPARK 9 Pro’s front camera is way ahead of phones in its price range.

After introducing the front camera, let’s take a look at the rear camera. The rear camera of SPARK 9 Pro is a bit more ordinary compared to the front. There is only one 50MP main camera, the other two are auxiliary lenses. But the main camera is a bit surprisingly good in everyday use. The dynamic range is excellent, and the images are clear. Perhaps because of the Bokeh camera, the bokeh effect in portrait mode is very good. I really like the effect of this bokeh background, as long as it does not go wrong, it is very much like a photo taken by a professional camera.

While the daytime photos are not much better than other brands, the photos in the dark light will surely surprise you. Night photos in auto mode are just like any other entry phone, easily partially overexposed, which is a normal performance at this price point. But once you turn on super night mode, the quality of your photos will soar. Dynamic range is improved and exposure in low light is back to normal, looking like a photo taken by a $300+ phone. Generally speaking, entry-level phones can’t do this, so it seems that TECNO has really worked hard on the night mode algorithm.

By the way, the main camera of SPARK 9 Pro also supports 2K 30fps video recording. Because there is no EIS, you better not record while walking.

TECNO SPARK 9 Pro Review: Performance & Battery

The screen of SPARK 9 Pro is an FHD+ LCD screen. This waterdrop LCD screen is the standard specification for entry-level phones.

The processor is MTK’s G85, also an entry processor and PUBG can only be turned on at 30fps, but the good news is that the game frame rate is stable.

And it’s very power saving, with its big 5000mAh battery, 20 minutes of PUBG only consumes 4%. 30 minutes of Tiktok consumes 4%. 1080P online video consumes 5%. Anyway, I wasn’t able to drain its battery in a day.

Most of the starter phones we’ve seen are pretty much the same, except for slightly different designs. But the SPARK 9 Pro is the only entry phone I’ve seen that focuses on selfies. And the rear camera is also so good that it’s hard to believe this is an entry-level phone that only sells for $170.

If you have higher requirements for photos and selfies, then it’s definitely worth buying at this price point.

Tecno has just debuted a new smartphone in the global market dubbed the Tecno Spark 9 Pro. The smartphone comes as a successor of last year’s Tecno 8 Pro and brings an impressive spec sheet for a budget range device.

Starting with its design, the smartphone comes with a two-tone back panel and has two circular camera protrusions housing three lenses. The smartphone has flat edges with the volume rocker and power buttons on the right side.

On the front, it features a 6.6-inch LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution (1080p) and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The display panel has thick bezels around it and also features a dewdrop notch for the front camera.

Under the hood, the smartphone features the MediaTek Helio G85 chipset paired with the Mali G52 GPU. The device is offered with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage expandable with a Micro SD card. The device operates on Android 12-based HiOS 8.6 and features a large 5,000mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging.

Coming to the optics, the Spark 9 Pro has a triple camera setup on the back consisting of a 50-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.7 aperture, a 2-megapixel depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture, and another 2-megapixel AI lens with f/2.0. On the front, the device brings a 32-megapixel selfie snapper.

The Tecno Spark 9 Pro comes in Quantum Black, Burano Blue, Holy White, and Hacker Storm colors. It will soon be made available in the global markets starting from Africa. The pricing of the device remains under wraps for the moment.
