Next gen Redmi and POCO flagship smartphones might be getting an upgrade in their camera technology. A new rumor has hinted at the upcoming Redmi K90 Pro and POCO F8 Ultra models featuring advanced camera technology for improved magnified shots. So here’s what we know so far.

Redmi K90 Pro & POCO F8 Ultra with new periscope telephoto lens

The Chinese tech giant’s upcoming Redmi K90 Pro and POCO F8 Ultra models were spotted on Weibo posts, which revealed that both models are getting better zoom cameras. The K90 Pro model is getting various upgrades that includes an ultrasonic under display fingerprint scanner and even a periscope telephoto shooter. The POCO F8 Ultra is expected to be a rebranded version of the Redmi K90 Pro, so the new F8 Ultra could also offer this camera tech as well.

Redmi K80 Pro

To recall, the Redmi K90 Pro launched with a 50MP telephoto shooter with 2.5x optical zoom and OIS support (Optical Image Stabilization). So the K90 Pro is likely bringing improved optical zoom. The leak basically talks about upcoming flagship smartphones from sub brands of Chinese OEMs. These next gen models might get the new Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 SoC. While the exact name wasn’t revealed, these might be referring to the OnePlus 14, Realme GT 8 Pro, and the Redmi K90 series.

Digital Chat Station believes that the early engineering prototypes will reportedly come with periscope telephoto cameras as well (Via MySmartPrice). Offering a periscope telephoto shooter on the popular Redmi K series was only a matter of time considering how the more affordable Redmi Note 14 Pro+ also offers similar technology.

Vivo x100 Pro+ Telephoto Camera Details Leak, Expected Launch Next Year

Vivo has already launched the Vivo X100 and Vivo X100 Pro smartphones, which have some competitive specifications at great price points. Now, the company is preparing for the launch of the Vivo X100 Pro+, which is scheduled to launch in the first half of 2024. There are certain reports that the Vivo X100 Pro+ could make its debut as the Vivo X100 Ultra, similar to the Find X7 Pro, which will launch as the Find X7 Ultra.

A new leak from Digital Chat Station confirms the presence of a 200 MP periscope telephoto lens with a size of 1/1.5″. It offers 4.3x optical zoom with a resolution equivalent to a 10 MP periscope and further stretches to 10x optical zoom. Jointly, it offers a maximum of 200x digital zoom. Along with the Sony LYT-900 50MP primary camera with a large aperture, the new periscope will further enhance the device’s camera prowess. However, there could be a 50MP Sony IMX589 rear ultra-wide lens and a 50MP IMX758 portrait lens.

The same primary camera could debut with the upcoming Oppo Find X7 series and Xiaomi 14 Ultra.

Furthermore, the Vivo X100 Pro+ is expected to launch with a Samsung E7 AMOLED display with a 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The smartphone will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC coupled with support for two-way satellite communication. The smartphone will launch a Bundling 5400 mAh battery with 100W fast wired charging and 50W wireless charging support. It will run Origin OS 4, based on Android 14.

Vivo X100 and X100 Pro Specifications

Additionally, the Vivo X100 and X100 Pro are launched globally with a 6.78-inch curved-OLED LTPO display with 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It supports 2160 Hz PWM dimming and up to 3000 nits of brightness. Both smartphones feature a Dimensity 9300 SoC, LPDRR5x RAM, and UFS 4.0 storage.

In terms of connectivity, the Vivo X100 and X100 Pro come with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, USB-C (USB 3.2), NFC, an IR blaster, and an X-axis linear motor. Vivo X100 houses a 5000 mAh battery with 120W charging, while the Vivo X100 Pro features a 5400 mAh battery with 100W wired charging.

Nikon Unveils Lightweight NIKKOR Z 600MM f/6.3 VR S Telephoto Lens

Nikon has unveiled the NIKKOR Z 600mm f/6.3 VR S, a new addition to their camera lens lineup. This launch comes after the recent debut of the Nikon Z f Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera.

With this new lens, Nikon is addressing a long-standing challenge in photography: the balance between performance and weight. The NIKKOR Z 600mm f/6.3 VR S, weighing just 3 pounds and measuring 11 inches in length, is the lightest in its class.

What makes this lens special is its design, which places the center of gravity closer to the camera body. This makes it easy to track fast-moving subjects in sports or wildlife photography.

LG announces new Optical Telephoto Zoom Camera with OIS support

LG Innotek has just made a notable announcement with the official reveal of its new ‘Optical Telephoto Zoom Camera Module’ that will be made available for future smartphones soon. So here are all the details.

The South Korean brand’s new optical telephoto camera will arrive with integrated telescopic camera function that is capable of capturing the high magnification of up to 4x to 9x zoom. The company claims that the new image sensor that it will be able to capture these shots without the loss of any image quality. As per official notes, the conventional ‘fixed zoom module’ that exist in the industry offers optical magnification only in the specific zoom sections.

Any other magnification applied on the shot is enabled through the digital zoom. However, LG Innotek stated that it has developed a zoom actuator, which is a component for moving the lens to enable shifting of the focal distance. This enables the telephoto shooter to capture clear images between all sections between the 4x and 9x magnification sections as well and is not limited to just the two levels. Notably, this camera tech is also backed up by OIS support (Optical Image Stabilization).

Thanks to OIS, the devices that feature this sensor will be able to reduce blurring in shots and get steadier recordings as well. Furthermore, since the module is smaller as well, the brands that employ it would also be able to save up space inside their smartphone’s body. Meaning, a smaller camera bump or none at all is technically possible.

Samsung Galaxy S23 series may not feature upgraded telephoto sensor

Samsung is gearing up to launch the next-generation foldable smartphone but the South Korean giant is also working on the upcoming Galaxy S-series flagship phones, details of which have leaked online multiple times.

Now, if the latest report is to be believed, then the telephoto camera sensor on the Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus’ camera module won’t be upgraded.

As per the report, the Samsung Galaxy S23 series will keep using the same 10-megapixel telephoto sensor that is found in the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus smartphones. It is not yet known what it will be for the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

It remains to be seen if the unchanged camera sensor is limited to the telephoto lens or if the entire back camera setup remains the same. The information available so far is unconfirmed, so even if it’s true for now, it can be changed given that the S23 series launch is still months away.

Both the Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus are expected to come with an upgraded front-facing camera. This time, the flagship smartphones will feature a 12-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video calling.

Although the exact launch date for the next-generation Samsung Galaxy S-series smartphones has not been revealed, the devices could get launched in the month of January or February, based on the company’s track record.

Vivo X30 series launch Invite features a real life telescope

On 9th December 2019, Vivo went on Weibo to officially reveal the invitation for the announcement conference of the Vivo X30 series. The upcoming smartphone is equipped with a periscopic telephoto lens which is capable of an impressive of 60x magnification.

According to the images shared on the Chinese microblogging site, Vivo revealed the invitation letters with multiple telescopes and even a magnifying glass. It is a creative yet subtle way of implying of the upcoming smartphones’ zoom-in capabilities. ‘See Farther and Clearer’ was also a prominent catchphrase used and further signifies the importance of the handset’s camera.

Vivo’s X30 series is a 5G smartphone from the company and is stated to be the flagship handset for photography. The magnifying glass and telescopes on the Weibo post hint at the smartphones’ periscopic ultra-telephoto lens which is the primary focus of the device. Through these specialized lenses, it is capable of achieving 60 times super zoom to look far into the distance. Hence, the upcoming smartphone already seems to be a great recommendation for serious mobile phone photographers.

The Vivo X30 Pro’s 60x super zoom is made possible due to a square pericopic lens which is aided by a dedicated algorithm. This allows the images captured from the lens to have consistent sharpness in both the center and the edges. In other words, images are clearer and retain more details. Furthermore, the smartphone will also be equipped with a 50mm professional portrait lens which will enable higher picture quality during the zoom process.

Vivo X30 Pro zoomed in samples shared online with 60x magnification

Recently, Vivo announced that it will hold a new product launch event on 16th December 2019. In the event, the smartphone manufacturer will officially unveil the Vivo X30 series 5G smartphone.

So far, the company has shared multiple promotional videos that highlight Vivo X30 Pro’s photographic capabilities; But now, a few zoomed-in sample shots which were taken from the handset’s telephoto camera have also surfaced on Weibo, the Chinese microblogging site.

Vivo X30 Pro: 1st image which is a relatively wide-angle shot

Vivo’s upcoming X30 Pro smartphone will arrive with a periscopic super-telephoto lens which will be capable of 60x magnification. Unlike the rest of the camera lens module which is located on the top left corner on the rear, it’s telephoto lens is separated from the rest of the three cameras (being at the side) and does not have a bump.

Previously, Vivo shared the impressive zoom capabilities of the X30 Pro in the form of a promotional video. Furthermore, the device is equipped with Samsung’s Exynos 980 which is integrated with a 5G modem and is aimed at mid-range smartphones.

Reportedly, one Weibo user also took to the Chinese social networking site to upload images taken from the Vivo X30 Pro’s telephoto lens. According to the images shared, we can observe the smartphone’s magnifying prowess. The first image had been taken from the primary camera that captured a road and a few buildings. Then, the user also uploaded zoomed-in images of the same scene but focused on the building at the far end.

It was a building with the Deutsche Bank logo which was initially unclear but soon became legible. Notably, once at the maximum zoom, finer details regarding the insides of the buildings also become visible. Since it was taken from an unknown source the credibility of the images is doubtful but still showcase incredible results.

Nokia Camera App Update Brings Telephoto and Wide-Angle Support

The Nokia 5 got an Android Oreo beta update a few days ago. One of the features of the update includes an updated camera app which brings a number of new features albeit hidden or unusable.

The new Nokia camera app shows not only 2x telephoto zoom but also wide angle mode (both features the Nokia 5 can’t even make use of since it has a single camera). No dual camera phone at the moment can shoot both telephoto and wide angle, so its strange that the camera app has both modes.

The only possible explanation is that Nokia is teasing features that may come in the near future. The Nokia 8 is currently the only HMD phone with dual cameras but the upcoming Nokia 9 is also expected to launch with two cameras on its rear.

The latter may come with either telephoto or wide-angle mode but most likely not both. To achieve that, one will need not less than three cameras.

Other features included in the camera update is the ability to manually select shutter speed and adjust ISO, giving you more control when in manual mode.

OPPO R11 Dual Camera Portrait Mode Samples in Crisp Clear Quality

OPPO continues its advert drive aimed at projecting its camera flagship phone, the R11 even when the device is yet to be launched. OPPO’s ads have been everywhere, from the train station, airport, popular landmarks in China to TV commercials. If you must know, the Chinese innovative tech giant has contracted a whopping eight different music superstars in China who will endorse the R11 and their popularity will hopeful help the sales drive.

The interesting aspect in all that is happening is the R11 itself. OPPO isn’t hoping to sell us just another smartphone but the R11 is super packed with features. The OPPO R11 features Qualcomm’s latest mid-range Snapdragon 660 processor which is specifically suitable for the camera setup the R11 is coming with. As for the camera, there is a 20MP selfie camera while the rear camera is a dual camera affair which is a 20MP wide-angle + 16MP Telephoto lens. The camera is touted as coming with a professional portrait mood which would enable the camera capture portrait photos with top notch quality and a blurred out background.

OPPO has now released sample photos captured by the R11’s dual cameras in Portrait mode. The images are clearly portraited shots captured in the portrait mode but at different locations. The clothing of the subject is also different on each shot, perhaps to show how the camera pans out when the exposure in on a subject putting on a dull or bright-colored dress. It is particularly thrilling to notice how the bright yellow coloured dress worn by one of the subjects comes out distinctly without any trace of fading out. So too, the skin colours were rendered very well. All the facial features on the subjects were captured accurately and clearly too. You can check out a few more sample photos from down below.
