<p>Have you ever wondered how filmmakers create such realistic visual effects in movies? In the past, visual effects were created entirely in post-production. However, with the advancement of screen technology, they are now able to overlay real images in the background while filming, creating a more immersive atmosphere. This technology, known as virtual production, was first used in the popular Disney+ series <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/07/sony-launch-modular-display-used-in-mandalorian/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Mandalorian</a>. Most recently, Samsung unveiled &#8220;The Wall for Virtual Production,&#8221; a new display specifically designed for use in virtual production studios. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Samsung Electronics Unveils The Wall for Virtual Production at InfoComm 2023</strong></h2>

<p>Samsung unveiled The Wall for Virtual Production, a new display that is specifically designed for use in virtual production studios. Virtual production is a filmmaking technique that uses real-time computer graphics to create virtual environments that actors can interact with. This can save time and money on traditional filmmaking techniques, such as building physical sets and using green screens.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1000" height="706" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/samsung-the-wall-virtual-production-1.jpeg?x10805" alt="Samsung the Wall" class="wp-image-544859" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/samsung-the-wall-virtual-production-1.jpeg 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/samsung-the-wall-virtual-production-1-300x212.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/samsung-the-wall-virtual-production-1-768x542.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/samsung-the-wall-virtual-production-1-696x491.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/samsung-the-wall-virtual-production-1-595x420.jpeg 595w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/samsung-the-wall-virtual-production-1-100x70.jpeg 100w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></figure>

<p>The Wall for Virtual Production is a modular LED display that can be configured to any size or shape. It has a high refresh rate and wide viewing angle, which are important for virtual production applications. The display also features a built-in camera that can be used to track the movement of actors and objects in the scene.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="577" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/samsung-the-wall-virtual-production-1-1-1024x577.jpeg?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-544861" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/samsung-the-wall-virtual-production-1-1-1024x577.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/samsung-the-wall-virtual-production-1-1-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/samsung-the-wall-virtual-production-1-1-768x433.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/samsung-the-wall-virtual-production-1-1-696x392.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/samsung-the-wall-virtual-production-1-1-1068x602.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/samsung-the-wall-virtual-production-1-1-746x420.jpeg 746w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/samsung-the-wall-virtual-production-1-1.jpeg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>The Mandalorian set. Not a Samsung product</figcaption></figure>

<p>Samsung is working with several partners, including Lux Machina and Weta FX, to develop applications for The Wall for Virtual Production. Lux Machina is a visual effects company that has worked on films such as The Mandalorian and House of the Dragon. Weta FX is a New Zealand-based visual effects company that has worked on films such as The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Avatar. Of course, the price of this technology, which is announced for professional works, is unknown.</p>

<p>In addition to The Wall for Virtual Production, Samsung also introduced the QxC Series Crystal UHD Signage, and the LED All-in-One Display.</p>

The product is a 146-inch Modular TV which utilizes microLED technology to produce its pictures. The smartTV dubbed The Wall brings to mind the innovative canvas-like smartTV called The Frame which the tech giant launched last year. The microLED technology which the TV uses to produce its pictures is based on Samsung&#8217;s <span class="link">Cinema Screen technology</span>, designed for movie theaters. This isn&#8217;t Samsung&#8217;s largest TV panel as the tech giant launched a bigger 170-inch smart TV at CES 2016.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-microled-tv-1.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-165526" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-microled-tv-1-1024x578.jpg?x10805" alt="Samsung The Wall" width="640" height="361" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-microled-tv-1-1024x578.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-microled-tv-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-microled-tv-1-768x433.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-microled-tv-1.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></p>
<p>As stated, The Wall comes in a 146-inch size (diagonal) and this is the house size version but it can get even bigger as it uses a modular design. Samsung hinted that users can add or remove modules to make their TV bigger or smaller in any configuration, thus removing previous limitations on screen size. The tech giant was quick to note that the increase in size comes with zero impact on the performance of the display.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-microled-tv-2.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-165527" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-microled-tv-2-1024x684.jpg?x10805" alt="Samsung MicroLED TV" width="640" height="428" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-microled-tv-2-1024x684.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-microled-tv-2-300x201.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-microled-tv-2-768x513.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-microled-tv-2.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></p>
<p>The Wall MicroLED TV uses an array of millions of individual tine LEDs to create images, quite different from the traditional LED-based LCD TVs which use a liquid crystal layer and an LED backlight. This technology bears similarity to the one used in scoreboards and jumbo screens, but it is scaled for home use.</p>

<p>The MicroLED technology at play on the monstrous-sized TV also has the potential for infinite contrast just like OLED TVs because each LED can turn on and off individually. The smartTV can also achieve a massive 2000 nits brightness, arguably higher than any LED LCD we&#8217;ve seen. Samsung is yet to disclose the TV&#8217;s resolution but it can achieve <span class="link">DVI-P3</span> color. There is no word yet on the pricing or availability but Samsung revealed that the MicroLED TV will ship this year.</p>
