Mobvoi announced two new smartwatches at CES 2019, however, it didn’t reveal the price for the Wear OS-powered watches. Today it announced the Ticwatch E2 and Ticwatch S2 will sell for $159 and $179 respectively and both can be purchased right away.

While both watches share the same specs, Mobvoi is selling the sports-like Ticwatch S2 for $20 more. That extra amount is for the watch’s MIL-810G compliance which means it can survive extreme temperatures, shock, water, and dust, unlike the E2 which is only waterproof up to 5ATM.

Other than the difference highlighted above, both watches have a 1.39-inch AMOLED screen with a 400 x 400 resolution, a Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor, and a 415mAh battery that is said to last up to 2-days on a charge. They both have built-in GPS, Bluetooth 4.1, a 24-hour heart-rate monitor, and run Google’s Wear OS.

Mobvoi has also announced a new feature called TicMotion 1.0 which is a suite of AI algorithms that proactively detect any physical activity you are involved in and record them without you doing anything. So there is no need to set either of the watches to swimming mode or running mode before it begins tracking. TicMotion will also include sleep tracking but it will arrive as a future OTA update.

The Ticwatch E2 is available in Shadow while the Ticwatch S2 is available in Midnight. The S2 will have a Glacier (white) model that will be released in the future. Both watches can be purchased on Amazon now. You can also purchase them on Mobvoi’s official website.

About four months ago, Mobvoi put up a teaser on their website for the Ticwatch E2 smartwatch. We thought it would launch soon afterward but it didn’t, instead, we got the Ticwatch C2. Now, the smartwatch maker has announced the Ticwatch E2 at CES 2019 and it brings along another watch, the Ticwatch S2.

The Ticwatch E2 and Ticwatch S2 were both unveiled at CES 2019 and are much more similar than they are different. They have the same 1.39-inch AMOLED display with a 400 x 400 resolution. They are also powered by the Snapdragon Wear 2100.

Both watches also have the same 415mAh battery and come with GPS and a heart rate sensor. So battery life, put at 1 to 2 days by Mobvoi, should be the same for both watches.

So where do they differ? In their design. The Ticwatch E2 has a simple design though not like the Ticwatch C2. It has a polycarbonate body (the S2 does too) and a circular button on the right side. The Ticwatch S2, on the other hand, has a sporty look. There are minute markings on the dial and the button is rectangular.

Although they both have different straps that further differentiate them, you can actually swap them for each other as they both use 22mm bands. Mobvoi says the S2 can also withstand extreme conditions and environments.

The two smartwatches are water resistant (5 ATM) and can track swimming activities. If you don’t swim, they can also track a bunch of other activities. They run WearOS, so you get the usual apps, Google Assistant and downloadable watch faces.

Mobvoi hasn’t disclosed the pricing for the Ticwatch E2 and the Ticwatch S2 but seeing as they are technically not different, they should be priced the same. Both watches are expected cost under $200 and are set to be available soon.

Mobvoi, the Chinese AI company now smartwatch maker may have a new watch coming soon. A teaser for a successor to its affordable smartwatch, the Ticwatch E, was seen on its official website and it hinted at the successor, the Ticwatch E2, coming with a higher IP rating.

The teaser shows a watch with a similar design to the Ticwatch E but with the dial on the right. The watch is submerged in water and below it is its name and the caption “Water is now a friend of your watch”.

The original Ticwatch E has an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. This means it will survive splashes but can’t be used for swimming and diving. The Ticwatch E2 may have an IP68 rating which makes it suitable for swimming.

Apart from that, we don’t know much else about the other features of the watch and its release date. It appears it will maintain the silicone strap + plastic frame design and apparently, come in black. If Mobvoi also wants to keep the price low, it may use a different processor (from MediaTek again or the older SDW2100) instead of the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100. But the new Wear OS should serve as consolation for the SoC.
