<p>For those unaware, the popular short video sharing platform was <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/26/india-finally-bans-60-chinese-apps-including-wechat-and-tiktok/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">banned by the Indian government back in 2020</a>. The government cited national security reasons for this ban and since then, TikTok has been unavailable in the region. But this might change soon as per an ET news report that cited sources close to the matter. Reportedly, the Chinese firm is in talks with Hiranandani Group for a partnership. This group is a Mumbai based firm that runs data center operations under the Yotta Infrastructure Solutions.</p>
<p>Apparently, the two groups are in talks and are at the exploratory stages. Although, the sources added that the union government officials have been informally details about these plans. Furthermore, a senior government official has apparently stated that &#8220;there have been no formal talks with us yet. But,<b data-stringify-type="bold"> </b>we have been informed of the plans. As and when they come to us for approvals, we will examine their request.”</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-339590 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/tiktok-2.jpg?x44794" alt="TikTok App" width="800" height="533" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/tiktok-2.jpg 800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/tiktok-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/tiktok-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/tiktok-2-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/tiktok-2-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></p>
<p>One of the reasons for TikTok being banned in India was due to the uncertainty regarding the storage of user data and its storage. Thus the government official stated that &#8220;Critical user data should not be stored outside India. All apps and websites have either made provisions to store data locally or are making necessary changes to their data storage and processing policies. If they (Tiktok) come back, they will have to follow these norms.”</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">As </span><a href="https://tech.hindustantimes.com/tech/news/tiktok-hopeful-of-india-return-expects-positive-outcome-from-talks-with-government-71605257516471.html"><span style="font-weight: 400">HT Tech</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">(via </span><a href="https://gadgets.ndtv.com/apps/news/tiktok-india-return-comeback-ban-chinese-app-bytedance-letter-to-employees-nikhil-gandhi-2324883"><span style="font-weight: 400">Gadgets360</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">) says, Nikhil Gandhi has written a letter to his employees via email. In that, he assures them that the company is giving its best to resume operations in India. Further, he adds that the company is committed to complying with local laws which include data privacy and security requirements.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">As per his statement, the company has not only clarified the concerns to the Government but is also willing to cooperate more in the future. He says that the company would remain dedicated to back its content creators and wouldn’t leave them out to dry. Looks like the company is optimistic about starting operations in the country soon.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">For the unaware, the Indian Govt. banned <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/TikTok">Tiktok</a>, a popular short video platform App, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/29/indian-government-bans-59-chinese-mobile-apps-including-tiktok-uc-browser-and-wechat/">including 58 other Apps</a> in June. However, the App’s parent company ByteDance Ltd., is hopeful for a comeback. It has about 2,000 employees in India to manage TikTok and Helo operations.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Following the Indian ban, a series of reactions emerged elsewhere leading to further bans in countries like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/07/tiktok-threatens-court-action-executive-order/">USA</a>, </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/10/pakistan-is-the-latest-to-join-the-list-of-countries-in-banning-tiktok/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Pakistan</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">. It also had to walk out of </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/07/tiktok-stop-services-hongkong-due-to-security-laws/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Hong Kong</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> after new security laws by the Mainland Chinese Government. </span><span style="font-weight: 400">Coming back, the letter should kindle confidence in the minds of fans, as well as its employees. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Although the company is fairly silent, it seems to be doing the groundwork correctly to prove that the App is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/07/tiktok-was-the-most-downloaded-app-in-july-despite-stresses-from-governments/">not only the best</a> but secure enough. Besides, the company is reportedly keeping its employee force intact by encouraging them with salary bonuses. And conducting an “annual performance review cycle”, in addition to improving their skills.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Unlike the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/02/us-to-vigorously-defend-order-to-ban-tiktok/"><span style="font-weight: 400">situation</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> in the USA, we aren’t exactly sure when and how exactly is TikTok making a comeback. Nevertheless, let&#8217;s just hope that the company satisfies the local regulations whilst making a strong comeback to its favorite market.</span></p>
